Classic Drow ego. They view all non-drow as being inferior to them, so they can't even conceive of the possibility that a non-drow (or as they refer to them, an "Iblith"....which translates to "Offal" or "Excrement") could ever best them in a fight. This is especially true for Drow Priestesses as they foolishly believe that Lolth actually gives a damn about them and will protect them, when in reality, Lolth would just find amusement in them getting themselves killed because they were too stupid to realize they were outmatched.

The whole point of Astarion's story arc is that while he occasionally crosses boundaries, when someone he actually cares about sets a boundary, he will actively try to respect that boundary. And if you actually give him your trust, he tries to make sure to live up to the trust you're placing in him. He was a victim of Cazador, and that shows in his early interactions where he's more selfish (primarily out of self-defense than any actual malice). But as time passes and he comes to accept that he can truly trust you and the others, he tends to mellow out.

I never went through with Araj's request specifically because I had romanced Astarion and I was worried it might affect whether he can feed off Tav's blood after. Do you know if it affects that? EDIT: From the replies it seems everyone misunderstood my question. I don't mean at Moonrise- I mean literally in the scene in this vid. Araj says "your blood goes boom now" so I wondered if her potion had turned Tav's blood dangerous/toxic like hers somehow, and if that would mean Astarion can't drink Tav's blood anymore. I know not to force Astarion to drink her blood in moonrise, I'm talking only about this part in Act 3.

Pre-bite we were just casually flirting/ friends with benefits, but after the bite (and with the right choice of words) we became official. I thought that was cool that you'd have to choose between respecting him as a person or getting that REALLY useful potion, seemed like a significant moment. Didn't know you can have it both ways :/ I was official with him long ago b4 that however and had 100 approval. But I think after that there was a pretty important scene with him anyway, where he says that he wants to be kind of platonic for some time. ​@@lonewolfclan1073True. I played a Selûnite Wizard (Light Cleric 2/Evocation Wizard X) who was never really great friends with Astarion before meeting the Drow. I mean, I let him have all the tadpiles he wanted since I wasn't going to use them and let him have The Necromancy of Thay but that was mostly a case of me giving him a rope and watching carefully to see if he'd hang himself with it. It wasn't until after I backed him up when he told the Drow "No." at Moonrise that he actually seemed like he liked and trusted my Selûnite. Not like I was trying to romance him at all, my Selûnite as a man of faith actually found Shadowheart to be quite pleasant company, even while they were still in the early stages of their relationship as worshippers of opposing goddesses. My Selûnite was overjoyed when Shadowheart joined him in prayer to Selûne

it's in the really big area before you actually enter into baldur's gate. i think it's called wyrm crossing. you can get the scenario even if you wipe out the moon tower! just explore as you usually do and you should run across her house (or whoever's house she has taken residence in)

you have to meet Araj in act two and give her your blood in exchange for a potion that grants you racial benefits (this is not the same as making Astarion bite her, you have to trade your *own* blood for a one-time use potion). then when you get near to her shop in act three (which is roughly next to The Blushing Mermaid), there's an explosion and she runs outside. you have to talk to her and let her take her experiment on you a step further (I've never done this because Astarion will ask you not to if you're romancing him, so I don't remember if this step is another potion or more of your blood or both, but it should be obvious when you get there). at that point your blood develops a fire / explosive condition, which is why when you come back to her again for this dialog, she's surprised that you're alive. and as others have said elsewhere in the comments, some of the dialog options here will end the conversation earlier and you won't get Astarion defending you or her declaring a fight.
