I once paid attention and ended up finding out a friend fell asleep in vrchat using his vrheadset when playing with me. He was dead silent without talking or moving so I ran up to him and screamed through my mic to get his attention. I thought he either fell asleep or something might've been wrong. I thought if I could hear him say something back I'd at least know he's alright. Once I found out he accidentally fell asleep on the living room floor where he was playing in vr I had to tell him to put his headset away and go to bed which he did.

Or just ask them questions and getting them to answer those questions. If you hear snoring they fell asleep. If you hear abnormal sounds like breathing issues or a lot of hitting of some kind then maybe call. On a video call you can tell better if they have a medical issue. Just pay attention to them and if it's not normal for them to act the way they are like slurred speech when not drunk or high(obviously if it's legal for them) then you may need to call. The amount of negligence is intolerable on this one. The mum telling the door should be open makes it feel like it was the kid's fault😢. Girl is such an angel for saving him❤
@froggy87144 ай бұрын
I don’t believe the mom told him to leave the door open while gaming was her pinning the blame on him, she was probably just telling him that so they’d notice better, though checking in every hour or 2 to make sure he’s fine from now on should happen too, I don’t know if he had a history of seizures or not, but since it wasn’t said, I’m going to assume that’s the first one he had, so she couldn’t have known it’d happen, though if that wasn’t a first then the mom is pretty neglectful I think I hope this all made sense

@youmatter8138Ай бұрын
It's not negligent to not check on your teenage child every 5 minutes. Had he had a history with seizures, I'd assume that they would have had some sort of system in place. As for the door staying open, as another commenter said, that's her ensuring this doesn't happen again. It's the exact opposite of negligence.

The moral the parents got from the story is... well... concerning.
@AylaMariannaАй бұрын
It's likely just in order to be able to notice if anything's awry (without having to barge in and possibly invade his privacy), at least when he's not expected to exit the room for quite some time, e.g. while gaming and such. Different if he's just going to change or make a private phone call or has plans at a certain time (where it would be a cause for concern if he doesn't emerge from his room for those plans). At least until further testing/examination, perhaps medicines etc. if it turns out to be a seizure disorder. It's also a safety net for the person who almost died without anyone noticing-had it not been for the online friend who he just happened to be voice-chatting with and who just so happened to catch that something was wrong based on his suddenly new, strange, & concerning breathing pattern that turned into silence. If it happens again, then the next time, he might not be so lucky. And he wants to live. You can imagine how impossibly anxious, guilty, and fearful any parent would feel thinking their children could actually be actively dying, helpless and unnoticed in their room within the same house while everyone is at home. Especially since they almost lost him like this once already. This way they can walk by every now and then and have a look to check that everything is still all right, without needing to enter the room or open a closed door & surprising/scaring/embarrassing an unsuspecting teenager.

You rarely ever die from seizures. If he collapsed and stayed like that for 40 minutes he was eventually going to wake up. But yeah. Good on the girl for getting help. Edit :- I meant that the seizure itself doesn't kill you. It's either aspiration or trauma associated with the seizure. This usually happens quickly depending on the position of the person so if you managed to last for 40 minutes in a position that didn't cause the damage chances are you probably will be fine.

I remember when I was still in high school there were multiple occasions when I would suddenly blackout. My peers would wake me up and act like I just fell asleep which makes me come to that conclusion as well. Every time I passed out, it was on a chair. However, it only happened a couple of times so I never really thought about it up until now
@mainhalo1174 ай бұрын
It really depends on the kind of seizure. The kind that my dad has cause him to collapse and seize on the floor (the kind of seizure that most people think of when they hear the word). When I was like 9 I found him on the floor in the early morning after hearing a crash in my living room, turns out he had had a seizure while leaving for work and would’ve died if I hadn’t flipped him over onto his side to keep him from choking.

This reminds me of my brothers friend who was gaming as well and a drive by happened and one of the bullets went through his chair and he was fatally wounded, this happened a couple of months after we all graduated, it was heartbreaking because my brother lost his best friend and that was the first time he had a mental breakdown.
@destinytapia87593 ай бұрын
We did this for a friend who was suicidal. I live in California and he and some of our friends live in west Virginia. He said his goodbyes via fb message. So I immediately contacted everyone I knew from over there. Plus the police. It was a long 24 hours. Another friend of mine left a voicemail telling me goodbye. I wasnt even dressed. I called his male best friend and we broke into his house. We couldn't find him. We started calling family, and then all of a sudden we heard the shower on. We were petrified of what we were going to find. He was in the shower fine. But everyone showed up for him. He was my boyfriend at the times friend, but he became a brother to me. I had already had someone take their life, I couldn't lose anyone else. Unfortunately I ended up losiny my cousin who was like my brother to him taking his life. I named my daughter after him and she passed away at 6 months. May God give us the strength to be there when it matters.
