I have a newbie question... Why is the opening so important? Isn't the most important part the dry down? The only one smelling the opening is whoever is applying it and 9 times out of 10 no one will smell the opening right? So as long as the dry down is very close thats all that matters right?

Liking the drydown is super important yeah but the opening also. If you don't like the opening of a fragrance, how are you going to feel about spraying it on several times a week, even if you love the drydown? If the opening is chemical ish or harsh, would you want to spray it on and go hop in the car with friends? Would you feel the same way if the the fragrance had an amazing opening? Doesn't always matter; sometimes it does.

Both the opening and the dry down are important. The opening is between the first 10-30 minutes. Usually, if you are applying a fragrance right before you go out, it can be noticed by most. The opening has a lot of the lighter, shorter term notes present, so it smells slightly different to the dry down, when the base notes are whats left. If you are the type of person who keeps a cologne in the car or sprays something on right before going out, you will smell the opening more.

Imo. the best Layton clone is The Woods Collection Dusk . The opening is much more pleasant without that Vicks Vapor Rub smell .

Now that you mention Vicks smell, used Detour Noir today for church and while it indeed smells a little bit to menthol in the opening, it goes away like 20mins later. The rest of the wearing is very very pleasant.

I own both Sedley and Maahir Legacy. The openings are very similar (at least a 9 out of 10). The drydown is maybe a 5 out of 10. Legacy is very linear and never develops.

I feel Fragrance World Posh Sirius is closer to Sedley then Maahir Legacy and is about 90 % close , with a little more mint dominant , and a bit more Lavender .

I'm glad you touched on performance right at the end. That was a question I had throughout the video. It's one thing to dup the scent but do they have better or worse performance. If it's better, then it's a no-brainer. If not, then you have a decision to make if your wallet allows.

I HATE Ganymede I tried to wear it soo many times and I just can't with that sharp metallic note so definitely not a blind buy. With that being said I can definitely understand why this is highly praised because it is a well crafted scent and I can see people enjoying this more than me. I found Essential Parfums Bois Imperial ( also perfumed by Quentin Bisch) to be a better alternative as it's more wearable imo

North Stag II is not the best Layton clone... Orientica Royal Bleu is almost spot on in terms of the smell, quality is the same as the OG and performance is better than Layon... Get your nose on it if you can! It is a bit on the pricey side as far as clones go, but well worth it!

I tend to take everything you say about fragrances, as if it were gospel. But it's always great to hear a woman's opinion too. When I began my fragrance journey, all I heard about was how "Aventus is King of the fragrance world." So that's where it all began. I got compliments galore from every DUDE in the room!!
