“Children can’t consent to puberty blockers.” Very much yes, I agree with the sentiment billboard!

Some places like my home state, Maryland, have laws where parents need to agree to stuff like puberty blockers. So in a legal sense too, young children can't consent.
@KristopherPrime3 ай бұрын
@@Cloud99-ft1oj at least we would know who the bad parents are in this case.
@Cloud99-ft1oj3 ай бұрын
@@KristopherPrime Maryland also has a lot of other prerequisites for transitioning. Even if parents do consent, minors have to take a maturity test to verify that they understand the impact of their decision. You also have to have a letter from a therapist who specializes in gender issues, which is written only after going to therapy for a while (this applies to minors and adults). So even though you blame it on bad parents, the process of transitioning takes a lot of stuff before you can even start. And if the teenage child has gone through therapy and has passed a maturity test, it's (usually) a good idea to let them go through with this if they're absolutely sure it's what they want.

That ladies whole argument is very easily picked apart. When the guy asked, "if a 13 yr old girl gets her breasts removed and decides to stop trasitioning in the future, is she going to just be fine?" In my humble opinion, you have to be seriously mentally unstable to think it’s a good idea to let your child with a single-digit age to make a decision that will quite literally change the rest of their life. If you are, in good conscience, allowing a literal child to make such an extreme decision for themself when they can’t even use non-safety scissors, you don’t deserve to be a parent.

No child with a single digit age or really under the age of 16 or 17 is doing anything irreversible. The only thing young children do is socially transition which does nothing to their body it just lets them try something out and feel comfortable. If they decide thats not right for them they can go back to their old gender with no problems, it does not affect the rest if their life. Puberty blockers are also reversible and are only taken when they start puberty at around 11. All they do is give the kid more time to think. The irreversible thing is puberty. If someone does get to the point of actually making major decisions they are much older and have to go through a lot of therapy and think it through. If a kid wants to be themselves it will change their life. It is someones job as a parent to love and support them through their journey whatever it is. Stop pretending your transphobia is to protect children, you know its not true.

i agree with what you said about the gender transitioning meds, however, as a clinical psychologist, i have to disagree with the anti depressant part, it does kind of add to the stigma surrounding mental health meds. i mean, don't get me wrong though, i DO agree that it should be a last resort, and you should absolutely try to get to the bottom of why someone feels depressed first and trying other strategies to help them before prescribing meds (especially if they're young). however, if someone is clinically depressed (meaning, it's no longer just the depressed mood, but a serious illness where they might become su*cidal or hurt themselves and it impacts their physical health as well, eg. they can barely get out of bed or keep up with their hygiene due to physical fatigue), if it's that severe, then you can give the meds a try, it can be life saving (by that point it's basically just like a physical illness, but of course it's their choice and in my country, doctors don't prescribe it to them if they don't agree, and if it doesn't work and make them feel worse, we do ask them about what they want the next step to be, if they want off, we safely take them off) of course though, you need to keep going with the therapy and stuff when you're on the meds and you still have to do the work to get try and get well. since i'm in europe, i'm not so sure what happens in america but from what i've researched and heard, i do think that for one person who actually needs anti depressants, american doctors prescribe it to 100 people who don't actually need them. and with the gender part, since i'm a psychologist, i have worked with all kinds of people - including quite a lot of people who have gender dysphoria. i've noticed a pattern though, most of them (most!) are neurodivergent teens who, most of the time, has some unsolved traumas. sometimes, after i've worked through those traumas with them, the results are very different, some of them no longer feels dysphoric, while some still do and may have gone on to medically transition at an older age. i do agree with you that minors should NOT medically transition because i can't imagine if some of my clients (the ones that no longer feels dysphoric after working through their traumas) would have done this and the amount of regret they would have.

My dysphoria is not always super bad (the severity fluctuates a lot), but it's a problem I want to clear up. Before, I wanted to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. But now, I wanna deal with it thoroughly and see what's right for me. Some are insane like the woman who went "I did not consent to be recorded", where she was very radical with her beliefs. It sucks that no matter where you go, there's always a possibility of bad extremists. But I like to believe that lots of groups have mostly good people, and you only hear the bad ones because their stories are wild enough to be told. There was one woman who said that 15, 16 and 17 year olds are old enough to transition. She was fairly calm, not too radical like "let kids transition from birth" or "ban trans people". She's an example of one of the best kinds of people you can find in a community, not instantly angry and not super extreme in her beliefs, only saying she thought minors above 15 were old enough to transition.

I have ADHD-Inattentive and I wasn’t diagnosed until my sophomore year in high school because when I got my first car I crashed 3 times in 2 months, each time being because I got distracted with some random shit that I suddenly focused on (my most vivid memory for one of them is I was focused on moving a Red Bull can while I was actively driving and rear-ended someone). This also manifested in me being tired all the time no matter how long I slept and genuinely forgetting about homework by the next class, leading to me having far lower grades than I knew I could have gotten. My parents’ initial explanation was I was lazy and uncaring about my academic success which was reasonable given my behavior despite the effort I was, albeit ineffectively, putting into it. That was until my 3rd crash where they asked me why I was doing all of this while I was crying in embarrassment and confusion as to why I kept doing this to myself even when I was trying my damndest to improve. I simply said “I don’t know”, and the conversation continued to “I think something’s wrong with me”. After one of the few real conversations I’ve had with my parents at that point I went to my doctor that I have been going to since I moved to the state when I was in Pre-K, and when I took the test for ADD (It was called that at the time, but the name has since changed in the newest literature) I had a near perfect score, which was bad. After much discussion between me, my parents and myself I was prescribed Vyvanse at the lowest possible dose and as soon as I started everything improved. And if you think this story is saying “My parents were bad for not putting me on drugs faster” you’re dead wrong, the fact that my parents AND my doctor exhausted all other means proved to me that 1. I genuinely had this disorder unlike most kids on this medication 2. My parents and my doctor genuinely cared for my wellbeing and didn’t want the easiest, potentially most damaging option, instead they wanted to find a solution that would actually help me. And that’s ultimately why I trusted them and continue to trust them in their thoughts about my health. TL;DR: If a doctor’s first opinion is to prescribe you something without the exhaustion of other options, find a better doctor.

My main issue on this topic is the long-term effects puberty blockers CAN have on children. Prolonged use of puberty blockers can lead to underdevelopment of genetalia, and when these people are old enough and really want bottom surgery, they don't have enough tissue to work with, leading to more surgical complications and years and years of pain and probably skin grafts to fix it. Is that pretty rare? Yes, it is, but the fact that it CAN happen is terrifying. Why spend years and years suffering in pain instead of gritting your teeth and going through puberty? Again, it is pretty rare for that to happen, but it CAN. Social transition > medical transition for younger people (children). There are certain instances where children (usually girls) need puberty blockers because they start puberty WAY too early, and it only delays puberty until they're 11, and of course I'm fine with puberty blockers for that purpose. 6-8yos shouldn't be going through puberty, that's way too young. But with this specific argument, these kids aren't starting too early, they don't wanna start at all, and that isn't good for the body. I genuinely believe we need a whole lot more research than we currently have. Also I know Acheeto is just kinda trolling at the end but you can literally get OTC testosterone (those "man-boosting" performance vitamins) and viagra for a few years now. This month, the FDA just approved ONE oral birth control to be sold OTC (and that is so sad that it took this long to happen).

i had an argument about this with my best friend bc her little (trans) brother wanted to start taking puberty blockers and T and i was (and still am) against it bc her little brother is like 13 and she told me that she thinks her little brother won't regret it the future and that its better to start when you still have not gone through puberty bc the effect of T will be better and it will make him pass more bc he still has not developed any womanly traits (bc hes a fucking child) and thats what a lot of trans ppl think when faced with this question. I understand that the transition will be better if they start before puberty BUT THEYRE STILL CHILDREN LIKE 😦 you cant get both sadly! the changes are not reversible, your voice for example, if you transition from female to male and use hormones your voice will get deeper and that is something you CANT change later if you regret it, and everyone has done stuff they regret when they were kids because you grow a person and develop different ideas and thoughts im not the same person now that im 20 as the person i was when i was like 14 or even 16, when youre going through puberty you change A LOT from year to year and its not okay to let children make such drastic choices even if its their own body tbh, im 20and i (and MOST OF MY FRIENDS) went through a transgender phase, a gay phase, a non binary phase when we were younger and now Ive realized that it was just a phase, i have like three friends that went through the same and now are like normal lol, when i was 13 i would fight my parents ALL THE TIME bc i wanted to remove my breasts, and thank GOD my parents didn't let me do it... this generation is fucked

I think the reason some kids try transitioning is because of the environment they grew up in. If a kid grows up in a rural community, there's a decent chance they will never have heard of transgender stuff, and wouldn't even consider transitioning. They would learn to work through the issues of puberty and live their lives instead of trying to change a fundamental fact of who they are that simply can't be changed. It's like the sign dude said, kids have been getting through puberty for thousands of years without considering transitioning, but with the rise of social media, trans media has spread to more people, which can get in the heads of young impressionable minds and have lasting effects.

I think a big part of the issue of medications and procedures being recommended is because most of the time it seems that primary care providers are the ones signing off on them, less so specialists. Primary care providers are already overworked and busy, so they definitely don't have the time to go over in detail about someone's gender dysphoria or even ADHD symptoms. Just to appease some patients, they may just hand them the medications and referrals so they don't have to argue or deal with it.

I can kinda speak from experience on this, A year ago I also thought that I wanted to be a girl, so I applied to a certain website to get ahold of estradiol. It seemed professional enough so I gave it ago. I scheduled a zoom meeting with my "doctor" at 10am on a Saturday. So the day comes and they ask me all sorts of questions that in hindsight, all would've led to me answering with something that implied I wanted to be the opposite gender. I'm not even kidding when I say that this "meeting" was done in 10 minutes and my pills were scheduled to be picked up at my local CVS within the next 2 days. I took this medication for 2 months before I realized that I was just girly in some aspects of life but was still masculine in most, so I started taking one pill instead of two, then half a pill, then none at all(I was supposed to take one in the morning and one in the evening). My "breasts" didn't grow much, except for a small bump which is now mostly gone, so I'm grateful for that. This shit is way too easy to get ahold of, and it's honestly very unsettling.

I think the trans movement backfired in the worst possible way. The issue got a lot of attention and a lot of support, but, from what I’ve seen, most people don’t support the movement at all. By don’t support I don’t mean oppose, they simply show it no attention or care. When the movement started I bet they were expecting a lot of hate and opposition, but we’re surprised to be met with indifference. They have literally gotten everywhere and without too much difficulty (especially when compared to other movements in the past), news headlines remain positive and there is hardly any negativity in comparison (Trump, abortion, and the BLM movements received far more backlash than they did). Compared to movements in the past, the movement is going incredibly well, especially with it not being a decade old yet, truly incredible results. Yet they have gotten nowhere, there have been changes, but not much to push the movement forward. Ironically, it is trans people who seem to be hindering the movement the most, statistics related to them leave a poor impression, and their representation has left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth. They do not have a solid argument or unifying statement, and rarely engage in respectful discourse. States that did give trans rights went back on the decision later on. One state allowed trans people to use the bathroom they identified as, but went back after a growing number of incidents forced them to do so for public safety. They attempted to compromise, asking trans people to carry a form of verification to prove they are trans to prevent potential abusers of the law from doing so. Trans people found this unreasonable and oppressive, calling it transphobic. Lawmakers, not willing to endanger citizens further, restored the law to what it was. This immediately reduced the number of incidents. Taking a deeper look at the situation would reveal a detail that was brushed under the rug: a portion of the offenders were legitimately trans, the exact number is impossible to verify, but it was a surprisingly large portion. Trans people have brought attention to themselves, and by their own behavior, created a bad reputation. They are comparable to furries in terms of how people look at them, but unlike furries it isn’t a minority that gives them a bad rep. Their position is not the result of some hate group either. The media industry has worked incredibly hard to foster a good reputation for them and keep out negativity. The support they had was massive and powerful, this would suggest hate is not a legitimate reason for its failings. Tl;dr trans people are the ones mostly responsible for their bad reputation. Despite massive amounts of support. They have somehow managed to squander it.

Here’s the argument that debunks all people that say what his sign says is bad, I had leukemia and every surgery I had before 18 I couldn’t consent, so why should it be different for children going through a medical procedure to become trans

No one under 21 should be given ANY consideration for these treatments. If you can't be considered "adult" for the purposes of purchasing and using tobacco or alcohol until 21, you damned sure can't be expected to be so mature you can decide to make permanent alteration to your anatomy!

Well tou can have all the feelings you won't but you're not any kind of medical professional so why should we listen to you instead of someone who knows what theyre talking about?

When I was on antidepressants I had a severe physical reaction the first time I took it and stopped right away. Talked to the doctor, they gave me a different medication. After a while I start getting side effects (super dizzy, exhaustion, tacky eyes all the time, head rushes, etc) so I talk to my doctor), next day I’m on a third type of antidepressant! Now I’m off my meds and am still depressed-possibly more so than before. Also, being on antidepressants brought out extreme anxiety so now I have both to deal with…don’t take meds guys. They feel like they work until they dont
