Put a railing over against the A-frame. Cut the railing on an angle to the A-frame then bolt each baluster to the A-frame. Or once railing is cut on an angle, tack weld a piece of angle iron to the balusters and then bolt that to the A-frame. That way the railing will carry the same line as the A-frame and the space will be covered so that no one will be hurt.
@davidmessersmith7863 жыл бұрын
I was thinking along the same lines. If you need something there for your own comfort, make a wedge shaped railing segment. Perhaps instead of fastening to the a-frame, secure it to the corner rail only , but up against the roof trim. But the plant works for me!
@reddragon37333 жыл бұрын
@@davidmessersmith786 I agree with you. Or my idea. But either way that space is an accident waiting to happen. One of the children or someone else's child plays on the railing, then falls back or gets stuck between the A-frame and the railing. Even an animal, the dog, 🐐 goat Leon, could find trouble there. I believe a railing cut on the A-frame angle, tac welded to angle iron, then bolted to the A-frame is the easiest and best looking solution. Just spray the iron with the paint that matches the railing. ✅ Done, move to next project.

@Kirk Oglesby I guess that's your choice. I prefer to think of it that it's my personal responsibility to make my home safe for other people. We don't have to share that opinion and that's fine. However I know they have insurance (they had to enclose under the house due to their insurance company). So if someone gets hurt there in that gap, the insurance may opt to not cover it because they intentionally did it against code. This can go as far as them having their policy dropped. They may be willing to accept that risk. I personally am not willing to put my families future financial stability at risk over 2-3' of railing. Others have had other great ideas like using sheet metal to cover the gap and cutting a design into it. I think that would fulfill the code requirement. Again, you do you and I'll do me. I offered the OP my opinion and you jumped on here like I was against personal responsibility (which honestly I don't see the connection).
@ahoward38193 жыл бұрын
@Kirk Oglesby I respect what you say. Personally, my worry would be if a child was visiting without their own parents there to supervise. If some kind of toy or ball gets thrown in to that corner and a kid has an incentive to try to get into that area. To take the chance a child gets seriously hurt because you didn’t take the time to close that corner would be heartbreaking. I get the idea of being responsible for yourself- lord knows we need more of that. Just the idea of Murphy’s law- if it shouldn’t happen it will. Maybe it won’t happen till you have grand children but it could happen. Why lose the sleep over it.
