Some people don’t have an ear for those things. They can tell that what you’re singing is a different sound than what the base note is, however they don’t understand that you are singing a harmony. In my case because I listen to female singers, I tend to sing the octave under where the vocalist is. To someone outside of music knowledge, they would assume that I am tone deaf or not capable of singing along. Whereas i would and you would know that I am singing the same thing that the artist is, just an octave lower.

I wonder if anyone notices that not only are people now currently unfamiliar with harmony, but as soon as harmonies died out in songs so did relationships. There are more single people, situationships and marriage seems to be old fashioned cuz nobody needs anybody. People are also no longer couple dancing just more solo, if they can dance at all.
