I got to meet Sam Elliott once... Sort of... He came into the Orem ,Utah KFC after having been at the Sundance Film Festival up Provo Canyon. I could tell he was exhausted. I took his to go order, packed his chicken and took his money. He knew I knew who he was, but I didn't make a scene. He politely took his change, gave me a wink and said "Thanks darlin". It was sweet of him, and I believe he was grateful.

Back in the mid 80's, sams dad worked for either the oregon dept of forestry, or oregon department of fish and wildlife, whose office was located in one of the high rise buildings in portland. Sam would come into the restaurant periodically to meet his dad for lunch. He was always so nice and down to earth when we saw him in the restaurant and people pretty much left him alone. Super friendly and nice.

My father had the same mustache my entire life. When he passed in 2016, my husband and I handled his funeral. When we went in to approve his viewing, I had a complete melt down and yelled, "That's not my father. What did you do with my father!" Without my knowledge, the hospital had shaved his whole face and his hair (long and grey like Sam's was slicked back like dracula. I didn't recognize my father at first glance and lost it. The funeral director was freaking out because he had made a mistake once in his career. Once I calmed down and looked at my father's face, it was my dad. But what a shock that was my friends. Don't mess with perfection.

If you have never seen the movie Gettysburg You must check it out . Sam plays General Buford who’s cavalry has engaged the confederates. He and his staff are watching the standoff from a watch tower with word that General Reynolds is on his way with I Corps to support. He is really beginning to worry when one of his staff shouts sir it’s General Reynolds! Buford swings his binoculars around to see General Reynolds and his men coming to his rescue. The 2nd best scene in the movie behind Colonel Chamberlain’s bayonet charge on little round top. Both critical moves that saved the Union.

I love the Legacy especially because they were riding a Triumph motorcycle. You can tell the chemistry between the two of them in the movie. They just clicked so well. All of the movies in the old days for great. I love seeing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the theater for a dollar.
