This guy is a life saver; about a year or so ago, his series on mechanics of materials was the reason why I passed my course and now, a year later, I've gotten top marks in advanced Aerospace Structures and heading into structures specialisation. This dude is the best!

So far the only video I've found in days that taught this method. Exactly what I was looking for thank you so much

@structurefree +structurefree At the end of your STATICS work for cut 1 you got your signs backward. In your bending moment equation it reads: M1= -2.131x1 + x1^2. It should be reversed: M1 = +2.13x1 - x1^2. Your work is correct up to that point. You just goofed on the arithmetic there. Love your videos. I watch all of the relevant clips after lectures. These make my deformable bodies class easy, and reinforce the material very well. Thank you and keep it up.

Thank you for the video... You make it sound so easier and solve it as it's a puzzle. It helped me a lot and you deserve a cookie.

i kept messing up where you did cut 3 on my own, i thought you could draw x going right to left from the rightmost side when you made the cut, it threw all my calculations off and i’ve been wracking my brain all day! THANKS BRO

at 6.58, isnt the moment should be M1 = 2.83(x1) - 1(x1)^2? instead of M1 = -2.83(x1)+1(x1)^2)?

I noticed that my problem was with defining the number of cuts and a correct coordinates and being consistent. Thank you very much for the fantastic explanation. if you have time, I would like to see an example about Castigliano Them and the use of the fake moments and loads to determine the deflections. Thanks again

RobertoEmilioRomero Yes, I didn't write my notes very clearly. sigh..just replace all the 2.13's with 2.83's. I've added some annotations to the video.

Hello.. May I know why the Moment at Cut 3 goes "clockwise" and the shear goes up..? Thnx
@perfectlogan10037 жыл бұрын
the shear goes up maybe because of the support at B... abt the moment, idk lol
@nicolef45524 жыл бұрын
that's just the positive notation that's widely accepted and used for internal moments. They always go "up", so on the right side of a cut, it is clockwise. Same for shear, on the right side it is always up, on the left side it is always down.

@ 8:21 where did the 16 kN/m come from?
@nicolef45524 жыл бұрын
when he multiplied out the 8(x2-2) he got 8x2 - 16
@fuadbusiness94710 ай бұрын
he distributed 8 over (x2-2m), 8 times 2 is 16kn/m
@marcgrondier3988 жыл бұрын
hey man, could you explain why x3 was taken this way? I'm not very good at this so I would have taken it coming from the right for 0 < x3 < 3 or from the left for 6 < x3 < 9. i'm really lost about this point
@muhammadalishah68993 жыл бұрын
why did you write shear forces as negative in first and second cut? during sum of forces..
@structurefree3 жыл бұрын
Probably because of global equilibrium.

in cut 3 why the By=10.1 isnt inculded? while in cut 1 the 2.13 force was included ? i would be thankfull if anybody make it clear to me ^^
@kingbisanka96895 жыл бұрын
The By=10.1 is not included because he considered the right side of the beam.. That is, his cut was after the By=10.1...
