the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzbin.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

We were told to use Pier and Beam foundation. BC its only a shed. Blocks can shift. No good. Our first one was on blocks. It shifted. We were in ME. It was used for an office. Nothing really heavy like horses was in it. I was very determined with this one to pay the extra for pier and beam. That way you are IN THE GROUND...
@CountryRootsFarm3 жыл бұрын
Definitely in a colder climate! Our frost line is only 4 inches deep here so we should have minimal shifting. We couldn’t have it delivered onto a pier and beam foundation d/t the size so blocking it was the best option for us. However, we are not done with the foundation yet 😊

Your enthusiasm is real and that’s great to see! I’m an old fart so I have seen several homes come and go. Our most recent move has been somewhat like the feeling you have here, just tempered with a few years of experience. Don’t lose that enthusiasm and things will always seem easier than they really are, there’s some hard work ahead, but you could have slept in there that night with very good sleeping bags, but you could have!! I probably would have! We had a 16 x 38 gambrel (barn) roof shed pit on some recreational property this year. We had it craned in which was no problem as we only have 8-10” of topsoil and then mountain! It is on piers with the front side closed in by a retaining wall amd extra soil brought in after to level the entrance. This is for me and my beat up body,,,, haha. The back now has a deck that is also 16x38 plus a wrap around on the front 1yft end of the trailer that is 8 ft x 32. Stairs off the deck at each end including the corner so 3 sets. There are lofts in the shed on each end, these will be sleeping lofts, there’s a bedroom at the back big enough for a built in queen bed and built in dresser only. A small room for the mechanicals, 100% solar and plumbing going to a septic tank. It should only need pumping out once a year,,, we think. It’s insulated and that’s it so far and family want to stay there and have!! Hahaha. Have fun and I subscribed so now time for me to catch up! 830+ sq ft,,,,,,,,, I’m sooo jealous!!!
@CountryRootsFarm3 жыл бұрын

@@CountryRootsFarm - I should add that I didn’t pay for the service. I have a friend who takes turns with me working in each other’s classic vehicles. He insisted and said it would be exciting. Exciting it was,,,,,, there was a bit of wind that day. He just laughed it off as typical. The work on the place is stalled as everyone who has chipped in are getting their kids ready for back to school, or getting the last minute vacations etc.. I have a local contractor that will come in and put all the cedar ceilings and bottom 1/2 walls in, but he won’t do drywall. I fly out to Victoria, BC tomorrow and am gone for about 10 days so I booked him in today and the work has to be done by the time I get back. The drywall is going to be easy so I will do it myself. It will be done enough at that point. The floors are all heated with electricity from solar and a decent sized windmill for the project. The bathroom has a toilet and sink and the plumbing is also kept warm through a channel we created out of wood that is insulated and looks like a chimney coming out of the ground here the mechanical room (3ft x 4ft) is. The plumbing and electrical is housed in there. Lithium (LiFePo4) batteries don’t need venting so they work very well. There’s 400 AH (2x200) for the place which will definitely be enough, 600 watts solar panels and a tie in with the windmill that actually already feeds 2 x 3 season RVs. The cabin will be 4 seasons if all the planning works. The wind is almost perpetual so most of the power generated is dumped. Didn’t want to hook up to the grid. 2 x 3000 watt inverters creating 2 sub panels and then 8 circuits in the home plus power for the stove (split to two separate 110v circuits, my electrician has explained it, we haven’t done it yet)/refrigerator/microwave/dishwasher. A building code thing. This still needs inspection in our area to stay legal. It’s surprising what can be planned in a day. When I first posted, I had no idea I would be hiring someone to do the interior. I am not sure if the actual kitchen will be finished, but we will be putting a roof over 20ft of decking so the barbecue can be used for cooking and coolers otherwise. Wash dishes in the bathroom?? Haha. Sorry, I get carried away. Take care and stay safe you two!!
