Just finished your fantastic book, and brought back my dear to me memories of my mates back in the early 70s fishing are local club waters. We cycled everywhere on are rally choppers ,good for carrying gear. The only difference is now in the last few years I have started match fishing, and loving the company and banter. So a big thanks for bringing back those memories of fishing with your mates. 😊

Thanks Kevin! I had a Raleigh Budgie 😂😞 But then I was only about 5 years old when I had it, in the late 70s. Once went over the handlebars in the local park in Sheffield! Never went fishing on it but we walked everywhere, or got the bus, as you’ll know from the book. Thanks for your custom and your kind words. You’ll now be entreated in the draw for the BBF floats.

I used to make my own floats as a lad, crow quill being my favourite material as it was free, paintedwith airfix enamel. They were rough and ready, but they worked. Your video really brought back memories!

I actually went fishing with Andy the other week and his friend and able camerawoman, Allie, recorded it for his YT channel - The Making of Black Bottom Floats. Not sure when it will be up but worth looking out for later in the summer. Cheers for now 🎣

These wonderful floats take me back to my childhood and the sheer delight I had in 1970, aged 8, as I gazed in awe at the float collection in my local tackle shop....it was a tiny shop and the rods were all suspended from the ceiling, nets in the window and a massive stuffed perch, bristling in his glass case....the brightly coloured floats, glistening with fresh varnish and whippings, took my breath away...little works of art, as are these Black Bottom Floats.

I got my first rod and reel for my 8th birthday in 1958, so you may imagine I’ve seen so many changes in a lifetime of fishing. The one constant has always been the tranquility of mind that fishing brings to me, whether or not I’m catching. This video takes me back to when I had a go at making my own floats and the kick I got out of catching on them. Lovely to see a craftsman still at work. Great show as always.

Out of town was an important part of my childhood. I'd often sit and soak it up with my gran in the seventies. The fast show, again something I loved, but for very different reasons, and got close to needing dry undies more than once... My dear old dad never was into fishing, it was my grandad that filled me the all the wonder of country living, and fishing being a major part of that, I never lost the urge to keep going. Until I came across girls, and the fishing faded into memory for around 25 years. Then the sport was calling me from the remembered memories of childhood emotions that tugged at my heart from some very early times as a toddler. Been back into our hobby for the best part of 25 years and am now of a mind to carry on till I drop. Even now, I still wish my grandad was by myside when I do get to go fishing. I have 5 kids, (all grown up now) and all love to fish old school with float and a couple BB and a dropper. I fell into the trap of having far too much tackle, it got to the point where I had to rehome a dozen rods, reels, and a car boot load of terminal bits and bobs, ad well as a bivvy. All told there was something like £1800 worth of kit rehomed. That was like cutting my right arm off, but it had to be done. A cheeky question. Can I get hold of a copy of your book and have you sign it for me? I've been collecting books on fishing that are signed by their creator for some years now, and would love the chance of just that one more. Stopping here as I've just had twin grandsons turn up for a visit🥰🥰🥰. Keep up the great work. TTFN

I haven’t got any books left I’m afraid or I’d gladly sign and send you one. If you don’t mind paying the extra you can still get a signed, limited edition hardback (few copies left) from Great Northern Books. Just search for that and the name of the book and I’ve already signed them. But if you want your own copy and don’t mind paperback, then they are available on Amazon and other booksellers’ websites. Then email me at john.moorwood@icloud.com and I can let you know the address - and then I’d be more than happy to receive it, sign it for you and get it back in the post as quickly as possible ✉️

That was brilliant guys. You rarely here anglers who love the sport that I have been doing since I was 4 years old chat like you two have in this video. You have inspired me to film more of my fishing. Because most videos you watch are all about modern equipment and techniques which I do use, but I also from time to time, because as an angler you should always be open to learning new things. I have to say I do have some of Andy's floats and they are just great. Very robust, beautifully made and real works of angling art.
@themagicoffishing5 ай бұрын
Thanks Simon! And, yep, I love my tackle as much as the next angler - new and old - but we should never forget it’s really about catching fish, immersing ourselves in the great outdoors, sometimes meeting fantastic people, and just enjoying the magic 🎣
@terrycousins30155 ай бұрын
Very enjoyable video, at 73 I’m interested in all forms of angling. I heard Andy mention float making is easier than tying your own flies. I’ve been fly tying for 40+ years and float making the last 10 years. When the weathers not good ,it’s float making or fly tying,both time consuming but very enjoyable and satisfying. There’s nothing more satisfying than deceiving a trout with one of my home tied flies or seeing a waggler disappear on a river by a specimen Chub. Keep up the joint videos,tight lines 🎣

Many thanks for watching and commenting - I’m in awe of anyone who can make nice floats and tie flies!
