i am mushroom producer.smaller bags gives u more advantage.in case of contamination u can just get rid of small bag.in this one in case of contanimation u lose a lot.no matter how good u are mistakes are always possible.

Formalin is used for room sterilization. For straw sterilization better to use boiling than fungicides. Contact IIHR Mushroom division for training - agdial.in/categories/National%20Institutes#OZ-NI-001

It appears that the plastic was removed from the cylinders. At what point in the process does this occur and how do you keep the cylinders from collapsing without the support of the plastic bags?

Normally by 21st day when the fungal mycilial growth is enough, plastic is removed. It holds itself the straw column. Won't collapse.

Melissa have you only watched a couple of videos??? There’s dozens and dozens of smallest scale videos showing exactly what you are asking for dear!!! A couple of the best ones come from Curtis in BC Canada. Theirs many more, just put small scale mushroom cultivation into the utube search bar
