If your reply is “look at all these wonderful LED lit tanks” my answer would be “look at all those wonderful MH tanks “. I would also venture to add that MH tanks tend to last longer. As others have said, I would have liked to see T5s as well.
@siggyincr7447 Жыл бұрын
Tulio is very obviously a big proponent of the idea that UV is important for reef keeping. He seems to be channeling his inner infomercial presenter here. And as far as I can tell there are some pretty good arguments that it MIGHT be. But, loads of successful tanks without UV show that you in fact don't need UV.
@PoloReef Жыл бұрын
agreed. it was just meant to show led halide difference including other spectrums.
@craftaquatic6472 Жыл бұрын
A few points have me thinking here. Some of us carbon based lifeforms need UVB to produce and synthesize vitamin D. Wonder what it actually helps the fish and coral synthesize. There was a mention of a lower prevalence of water born bacterial issues in the aquarium, when most reef hobbyists were primarily using MH. Very interesting, if true. I’d be interested in hearing more about how high quality UVA/UVB supplementation, to our existing LED/Hybrid setups might benefit our reef ecosystems. For instance having a single UVB/UVA fixture mounted and on an hour or two a day.
