Gospel drummers were avoided in Modern drummer magazine. I have magazine issues of Modern drummer and Rhythm magazine going back to the very beginning and I curse them for that. If they would have showcased this type of drumming they would have had to admit Soul music and Rhythm and Blues drummers created a special breed of percussionist. They better stick with Rock drumming. Neil Peart who! But you have to admit, this kind of drumming you cannot teach out of a book. School did not give him this playing ability. Gospel drumming still should have got showcased. This type of drumming is not new in gospel music drumming. We are just seeing this more now because video camera on phone is here.

@@timwatersondrummer Gospel drumming is the ultimate in modern drumming. It covers every style in the Gambit. Modern Drummer Magazine did not know how to define Gospel drumming 40 years ago. But it was Funk the whole time in which never got enough recognition in Modern Drum Magazine. Modern Drummer Magazine emphasized Rock drumming because that's what sold drum sets for the American drum industry. I was there when the Beatles came and why they used Ludwig Drums. Modern drummer magazine used David Garibaldi for many Funk and Linear Funk Groove exercises like he invented Linear grooves. Where do you think he learned it from? All of that was played and thoroughly explored long before Tower of Power. Lil five year old anointed kids in the Gospel Church can do that, much less adults.
