Easton had to change the song's title here in the US and Canada due to not releasing it on our continent until the 9 to 5 movie and Dolly Parton's title track coming out between the time Easton released the song in her native UK and the time she released it here in North America. That's why I sometimes forget this banger's original title. I went a bit too long without listening to it.

Peter Paul and Mary had a song called Morning Train, so it seems like the world is fast running out of unique song titles. There is a Swedish version of the song called "Han pendlar varje dag" which translates as "He commutes every day". Wonderfully utilitarian, flatly prosaic title, if ever there was one. Maybe there should be a competition to take poetic and mysteriously evocative song titles and replace them with something plainer. Norwegian Wood becomes Room Lacks Seating Arrangements.

In the city of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia there really was a TV commercial that was made advertising that city's train system that had people going to work on a train wearing suits, ties, hats, etc. and carrying briefcases. One of them starts to sing this song, and very soon every other passenger in the train carriage joins in. And imagine their shock when the train stops at the next station and standing there on the station platform is the one and only Sheena Easton, about to catch the same train with them.

@@lilyleon1475 Only in theory. Since the 1980s, when there was a huge variety and already highly advanced technology, music has taken a slide into the abyss. The 1990s were still great, although not as innovative and already a little narrow in terms of variety. But the average quality of post-2000 music is just horrendous. Obviously, in every era, there are wonderful pieces. But 1980s had the richest combination of audio quality, video quality, variety, and innovation. It is easy to determine from how many memorable songs of all kinds there are. For example, post-2010, there are literally just a few, compared to the countless hundreds from 1980s. Today, music is very limited in terms of style, there is often unbearable repetitiveness, etc. Obviously, if people became internally free and independent again, like so many were 40 years ago, music could shine again or even more, thanks to the basically unlimited audiovisual capabilities of today. But the problem is that most artists tend to conform to certain unhealthy trends that turn their creations into a monotonous mess.
@lilyleon14752 жыл бұрын
@@jakubkrcma - What do you mean by "only in theory"? This isn't an academic subject we're talking about, it's purely subjective. Let me explain - for most of us, we'll identify the music at the time of our formative years and teens as the best, simply because that's what we identify with. I grew up in the 70s and loved the music from my generation, but now I'm older, I appreciate the music back then was written and performed by artistes, using real instruments and not synthesisers. So much so, I've gone back to the 60s and actually prefer the music of that time period. I can't say the same for the 80s, simply because the synth, killed off a lot of the creativeness and allowed any idiot to creative an automated backing track and sing to it. Look at the Stock, Aitken and Waterman hits for example. All sounded the same, but with different artists and a very polished video. Well, I listen to music for the musical content - I don't want the video and the difference here is that music from the 60s and 70s, were mainly heard on the radio and MTV changed all that. You make some good points and I agree with a lot of what you said, but returning to my original comment now, I maintain that 80's music is easily bettered and JJBgaming might agree, if he / she actually listened to music from the two decades previously.
@jakubkrcma2 жыл бұрын
@@lilyleon1475 I love music from all eras, lots of stuff from 1950-1980. But 1980s were the turning point where stuff stopped going up and started to go down for me. When you said that it can be bettered, I thought you were referring to something post-1990 because of the chronological dependency of the verb to better. Clearly, the '60s and '70s were the peak of non-electronic music. A wonderful mix of modern music with more classical instruments.
@lilyleon14752 жыл бұрын
@@jakubkrcma In total agreement, especially where, post 1980 marks the turning point and decline of the music industry in general. In graduate school, learning about Nietzsche, I learned the concept of the "surface worth of things," a certain shining that did not depend on depth per se: This is the case with quality pop music.

This song is about her being ecstatic about finally finding a man with a job. 😂 Sheena could really, really sing. That's real talent, not autotune. Also, I can't hear this without thinking of Cosmo Kramer at Brandt Leland and George Costanza at Play Now.

Finally! Sheena is posting one of our most memorable vids from the 80's. I grew up watching my father work hard for my family, come home and spend time with all of us. My mother stayed home for a period of time and raised us. As adults, we have respectable jobs, have an education and proud to worship God. No drugs, no criminal records, no bad relationships. Take that, Liberals of the 2000's!

I have great memories of this song. I was staying with an English family as part of a language study trip in Biggin Hill, Kent, in Engalnd when I heard it on the radio. I was 11 and so happy to get the single at the record store in London. I then kept listening to it on my record player back to France. Such a catchy and refreshing song. Everything was cool…

This song was played during lunch everyday without fail when i was in junior high school. After i entered high school, my english teacher at cram school, who is young but loves 70s and 80s music, once played this song on his youtube by chance. Then i immediately recognised it. Couldn’t believe such a great song was played in a rural japanese school without anyone knowing it, haha
