Good morning Arnie and Lynn. What a great way to start the video with humor. Little wooly ears and sweet faces making the humans disappear in the bedding Hilarious. The day really does go by quickly with all the activity. That mama had a tough time so good that Arnie could help her have successful deliveries. Tough work for both. Thanks for explaining the letter system. I knew you talked about the letter years but didn’t quite get the reason. Take care and don’t fall on the ice. Big hugs. 🥰🥰🥰

Thanks. Sometimes too much love on a farm can be hard on the farmers as we have to deal with heartache on a constant basis which I think is why a lot of farmers suffer from depression. However, I couldn't do it any other way. Thanks!

@@EwetopiaFarms, Are there any circumstances where a person could “help out” for five days for a working vacation? As in, a change is as good as a rest? “Help out” in quotes because the person might be an out of shape city person unused to farm chores.

Another busy day at Ewetopia Farms! It's always interesting to go along with you on the daily chores. The last five ewes and their lambs that went into the Dorset group appeared to be mostly crossbreds, very nice looking lambs indeed. I'm glad the weather has modified for you. Buddy looked sooo content in his straw bed, such a character!! Hopefully the next wave of lambing continues on a bearable pace and you don't get too exhausted. Good luck and have a great week!

Does Buddy ? I feel bad for the mom who had a hard delivery. Also how is the ram with the limp? Sorry you have freezing rain, that is dangerous. Be well. Thank you for sharing.
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
That mom and her lambs are doing fine. It is lucky we were there to help her though as she probably wouldn't have been able to do it on her own. The ram with the limp is fine as well. He got antibiotics and is no longer limping. He just had a bit of scald.

Good morning! What’s is the square footage math you do to figure sheep/lamb numbers per building? Have a lovely day.
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
We don't. We have it based on two things - feeder space: everyone has to be able to eat at the trough at the same time; and sheep health: too crowded and you start to see more illnesses such as coccidiosis, etc. My video tomorrow actually touches a bit on this

Lynn, is there a previous video that explains your jug system? I'm a little baffled by it because, when the jugs are basically empty and a ewe lambs, you walk her all the way down to the last jug on the right (the right from that view in the video) rather than filling the jugs closer to the lambing pen first. I know there has to be a very good reason why you do it that way. I'm just too dense to figure it out. (I've already heard you explain why you fill the jugs with space for the lambs under the feeder. And that made perfect sense.) No need to respond here as it would take up time. But if you could take a moment to explain it in a future video or refer me to a past video, that would be great. Best to you and Arnie!
@EwetopiaFarms Жыл бұрын
Yes Craig, there is always a reason for everything and it always has to do with making our work easier. The jugs at the front of the barn - which are farthest from the lambing area - are the jugs that are closest to the milk house where we have the water and lambing supplies so hauling pails of water, tube feeding, or getting anything else for the ones in jugs is always easiest on us if they are as close to the front of the barn as possible. It is a long walk with 5 gallon pails of water to the end of the barn! Especially at my age! LOL!

The statement you made about the lambs being abusive just made me laugh. They are animal babies doing what instinct dictates at the time. Perhaps it would be to your benefit to endorse a new way of feeding lambs including a bucket with several teats. Why expose yourself to injury needlessly? Enjoy the videos. Take care.
