A lot of fun. In the States we have county fairs, state fairs and wool gatherings where sheep are shown. Our fiber arts group one year at fair had a sheep shearing demonstration of a “colored sheep.” The sheep was dyed with kool aid in different colors. The ram was so patient. He was a big Border Leicester. He threw wonderful lambs. Back then there were not as many breeds shown as there are now. As a spinner having so many wools to play with is wonderful.

Here is something I don't know if you've ever noticed. When I was working as an interpreter in costume at a historical living history farm museum, when asking the audience to participate like when you ask them to touch the sheep, did you ever notice that the kids come forward right away, but the adults hold back?. Once you get one adult to come forward then many more adults will follow. I noticed the same thing when you were doing the shearing demonstration.

@@RICDirector To me, I used to as a sort of challenge to see how much I could engage adults. Once you get one adult engaged then the next group that comes through will see an adult participating and then they'll participate and you can keep this going for a long time.

Hey it is like a Dog Show except it is sheep. (Dog person here, attended a few in my life and had my dog shown). I have attended some Agriculture Exhibitions in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Canada. Mostly Dairy Cattle and Beef Cattle but of course they have other things to to keep the interest, like Petting Barns for the children. Alpacas, tractor pulling, barrel racing, 4 H Club booth, Clydesdales all decked out in their finest and Oxen also all decked out in their finest. Hmmm a Sheep Show neat. (I am very familiar with a 💩 show lol), I do love those Valley Black Nose sheep.

For our shearing we employ a contractor who brings 15 men for 5/6 weeks. Meat for the men is butchered right there near the shed. The butcher bet the gun shearer that he could kill, skin and dress the 2 tooth merino faster than the shearer could shear a similar sheep. Bets were mostly on the shearer but the butcher won by 5 seconds

In the UK at least this is the most commonly used pattern used for machine shearing (rather than hand clipping). It is commonly called the Bowen Technique developed by a New Zealander of the same name.
