I wanted to make a vlog on Sheffield but unfortunately Storm Babet had other ideas. With my vlog being rained off I decided to try out out fish and chips from Frymaster in Attercliffe. What was my verdict?

It's funny when you said as a nipper you'd go to the big city of Sheffield, whereas I was born and bred in Sheffield and as a treat we would go Barnsley market and have pie and peas in a basin with lashings of relish. I now live in Rotherham and go to Dixon's in Worksop for fish and chips in their cafe.

Respect sir, for braving the storm for us viewers. I was 99% gortex covered to walk the dog which was much more pleasant. If you venture south to Chesterfield, give Chesters a try for fish n chips, they'll be at least a 9. Redgates what a blast from the past !! I'm a lot older than you James and I have fond memories of mum n dad taking us all to buy toys .I used to get Corgi cars (not Dinky) and one year I got a Scalextric for Christmas .The big one with the figure of eight track you could bank the corners on to go round faster.That is when Dad let me have a go.

Y'never know what people will like about videos. I live in the high desert in the States so I quite enjoyed the sight & sound of the rain in Sheffield. I rarely see rain. Snow & cold, yes, but a rainy city street? Almost never. Pity it turned extreme, but while it seemed kinda manageable, I rather enjoyed it. 😊

Aye up James, thanks for the brief look at a wet and windy Sheffield, I've been to Meadowhall centre loads of times (though not for a while now) but I've never actually visited Sheffield itself despite living only about 30 miles away in Nottingham. It's a city I would like to see one day, hopefully in better weather! Talking of weather, as you highlighted at the end of your vlog, Yorkshire had it bad from storm Babet and I agree that you have to feel for the folk who's homes and businesses are affected by flooding, it must be absolutley soul destroying. Pity about the fish, chips and mushy peas, but at just under nine quid hopefully that lowers your disappointment a little bit, where I live a fish on its own can cost around £7.75 ! I was in the vineyards working in worse than that so I am happy to be nice a dry in my home 🥰 thought you would have found a nice cafe. I was working in the vines when it was minus 18 in the snow. Was my worst experience. Working outside is tough isn’t it ❤

When I were a lad we always had skin ont fish. Nobody should remove the skin because its best part of the fish. Soggy chips used to be a real treat last century.

I grew up in Birmingham in the late ‘40s,the ‘50s and early ‘60s and the chips were always soggy,and delicious,I missed those chips when I moved to the US,they only had crispy fries,but after58 years I am use to them now.Not that I eat fries very often,about 4-6 times a year.

You are right redgates was in the position you are describing. Im the same age as you so remember it well. Born and bred in Sheffield but moved away a few years ago. Cant believe how much its changed. I remember the moor when it had a road in the middle of it 😅. The hole in the road with the fish tank. Debenhams has been there forever, sad its all empty. Great video james, me and hubby love watching, like going down memory lane as familiar with majority of places you film in your videos.

Bit of bad weather doesn't affect the good vlogs. I went to that chippy 3 months go when checking the progress of my van conversion and the Haddock was cooked perfect and the chips were OK, the price was really good. Wasn't as busy as when you went though and traditionally haddock does have the skin left on cod doesn't.

Hi James. I live in Sheffield and there’s no decent chippy’s left. One to try for your vlog. Upton chip shop one of the last remaining coal fired fish and chip shop in the world! Fresh Grimsby fish in beef dripping amazing you need to try. Only open Friday 5.30- 900pm Saturday 11am- 1.30pm. Upton village in Gainsborough.

Use to get a chip buttie from a chip shop in firth park. Half a hovis with the centre scooped out and filled with chips. They were the best.

Hopefully all that rainwater will flood that chippy so they can’t continue serving such dreadful fish n chips James. 😂 James, while we are on the topic of fish n chips, apparently Britains cheapest fish n chip shop is in Grimsby called Mathews chippy and it’s on Stanley street, in Grimsby. £3 for fish and chips. He’s in a very deprived part of Grimsby where many struggle to make ends meet so he makes sure he keeps his prices low. It could be worth checking out for a future video

It`s crazy though how interesting it was so 10/10 because it must be the way you edit and the banter you add that makes it interesting .. The fish and chips in Donny were certainly the best as your little face oozed how much you enjoyed them. We've had tornadoes and flash flooding in my Canadian city this year, including in my area. Scary to see the water creeping higher and higher on the street... I'd have had the same and did, last time I was in. Addock, chips and mushies. They were better than most of the estate chippies, but not as good as Papa's down the road or Whitby's. Just my opinion James. On Saturday I tried to ride from my home in Handsworth to Whiston where my Ma and Pa live. I couldn't get through Catcliffe for the floods and nearly got caught at the bottom of the hill in Treeton on my detour. Catcliffe is ditched, just the same as in 2007, they've spent millions on the flood defenses to no avail. Fortunately for me I live at 500 feet above sea level.
