Hiking the Wainwrights - Season 1: Eastern Fells - Episode 4. Sheffield Pike, The Lake District
In this episode I dragged my pal Dina back out with me to show her the incredible views of Ullswater and around Glenridding from this little hill. The weather looked ominous and the views were shrouded for much of the walk but eventually they opened up at precisely the point in the walk that I'd hoped for.
There is a point that's a short stroll from Sheffield Pike itself that surely must be ranked up there with the world's top views!

I walked a lot of this with my Mum and Dad when I was young - you remind me of him - a giant military type man - very strong but with a gentle, kind and comic nature. I loved Dina in this I thought she was a real trooper. The views as ever are as breathtaking as anywhere. Thanks for sharing. x

Another great vid, really enjoying the series thank you. My wife and I did this the same way, plus Stybarrow that we'd missed on another walk. It's nice to see the walks as you've done a few the way we did them. Unfortunately the last of my cartilage in my left knee decided to give up coming down Dovedale from Rydal Head, taking us 3 hours to do the last 2 miles. So walking flat or going up is ok, but coming down becomes a problem after a time. So its risky for me to try very high tops now. We're watching the series together and it's like it's looking back at our walks. After watching the series we didn't realise how much we missed as we talk that much when out walking 🙂 Thanks again for sharing.

Cracking stuff as always. Really enjoying this series and looking forward to all 214 summits. You mentioned how still it was. During my one time on Sheffield Pike it was without doubt the strongest wind I have ever experienced. Me and my wife could not stand, we literally crawled across the summit and into relative shelter on the other side. Happy days! Loved the bit when Dina disappeared then popped up again. She is funny. Hope Finn is still able to get out for some of the shorter walks.

I've just discovered this" Awesome " ..and "Inspirational " video at 0400hrs in the early hours of Monday morning Glenn & Dina..." You're a " Hoot " Together you both lifted my " Spirits " so " High " I poured myself a " Good Measure of " Gin & Tonic "...( " To be honest that's all I had In my humble apartment." ) I am normally a " Real Ale buff "..I live alone...." Not by choice ...may I add.." well I have my 4 legged female companion...named " Princess " who is a loyal , loving , " German Shepherd." and we are " Inseparable now." ....'Till death do us part." " Anyhow the point I am trying to make Glen & Dina is I was feeling down and out with life in general...oops I can hear the " Dawn Chorus " " Wow now that feels " Magical "in my life at present...another plus from staying up late, is to watch this awesome video you both made.... I could " Reminisce and" smell the " Ferns and " Bracken " from my teens days in " Coniston" where I and my then cousin Larry were working on a New housing estate in the village,....".His Dad was a " Bricklayer " ..." My uncle Colin " ...and we laboured on him, carrying bricks and "gobbo "up a ladder with a " Hod " ...and onto a " board on the "staging platform " " And our reward for carrying out that " Arduous " task was a " Halfpenny " for every brick we carried in the Hod and placed onto a " Board" situ' on a " Platform."It was hard work keeping up because another bricklayer showed up.( " Don. Another enjoyable video. Two things 1) You missed a trick by not saying "Black Crag is walking beneath Black Crag" in the Glencoyne Valley. 2) I could not understand how I had climbed Heron Pike but not Glenridding Dodd, then I realised it was another Heron Pike also in the Eastern Fells! Too many duplicated fell names 😀

Don't know about you but recently I sold my drone. Now I've always enjoyed your drone work but do you find since not taking it out that you go out more? Like I decided to sell mine and invest in better camera equipment (Nikon Z5 and a bunch of lenses) and I have to say I go out a lot more now because I'm not worrying about wind and rain. Owning a drone your constantly weather watching. Don't know if you found that.

One of the reasons you don't see much drone footage in these videos now. If the weather is good and the walk not too long, then I'll take it. Otherwise it stays at home now 😊

If you were hungry enough, trust me, you'd kill. We are, for all our efforts to be different, still animals, with natural instincts, and satisfying hunger is one of THE most primal instincts there is. If you were on the literal verge of starvation and I gave you a gun and showed you a deer, you'd be able to kill, skin, cook and eat it without too much difficulty. Survival WILL make you do whatever is required to ensure its continuation.
