18:10 Actually Hindu Minorities were not attacked by student Protestors(many hindu students also participated in Protests & martyred) but by Hasina's traditional opposition - radical BNP & Jamat supporters (somewhere even Chhatra League of Hasina did as I got in reply & even saw a leaked group chat) because they were long suppressed and within the garb of students Protests they got an opportunity to showcase their religio-political goals so they started attacking hindu homes, temples & property. But many progressive students bodies are taking care of this and spread awareness so that Muslims themselves protect hindu temples as result we saw many Madrasas protecting temples. But we also saw ISKCON Meherpur Temple burnt today at the same time. So interim government should pay strict attention over this. And I hope progressive secular forces takes over Bangladesh rather than fundamentalists. Update: Best hope for Muhammad Yunus (who agreed to students demand) and will overtook interim government.

Some information here are wrong. Students did not create any violence during protest. That was the beauty of the protest. It was pen vs guns and bombs. Students did not set any fire to any houses or any medicals. Also these happened after hasina fled. It was the outrage of normal people towards awami league. Students were the one saving everyone. Even most of the cases it was awami league wing chatra league who were burning houses of minoritires to spread rumours about students. Students and general people are spending sleepless nights to guard houses, temples etc for people. I can bet no country in the whole world has this much patience that these kids had to remove a dictator with armed forces without doing violence. The battle was not for quota anymore. It was for the brothers and sisters we have lost for no reason. And the victory came with these innocent kids with their logical points. PS: Thank you everyone. From Bangladesh, here to respectfully and honestly provide context. I kindle urge everyone to read please. It will be much appreciated. 1) Let’s all acknowledge that sheikh hasina’s government was an autocratic government. She jailed and prosecuted almost all the opposition party and used BCL (Bangladesh Chatro League/ Bangladesh Student League) to commit all forms of atrocities for years. She has been in power for over 16 years and during this time, the country has been crippled with corruption at every level of government. Over the last decade, over 100 billion dollar have been laundered out of the country all while the economy was slowly collapsing. 2) The students started the peaceful protest last month against reserving 30% spots in all government jobs and public universities for the descendants of freedom fighters. Bear in mind, the existing quota system has already been grossly abused to favor giving positions to pro government goons aka Bangladesh Chatro league (BCL). So students were already being discriminated against and this just added insult to injury. In response to this peaceful protest, the police open fired and killed over 50 students in one day. The protests got even stronger and so did the killings by the police and BCL (Bangladesh Chatro League). BCL was openly firing on unarmed protestors under the protection of cops. Over the length of this protest over a thousand have been killed (75% of which were students) and over 7 thousand jailed. Helicopters were flying by while brush firing down. 10 children under the age of 10 died in their own homes and roofs because of this. The protest got even stronger. Sheikh Hasina, during this time, not only failed to take responsibility but called the protestors terrorists and rajakars. 3) Throughout the entire protest, students did their very best to be peaceful but as more children and students died, the anger of the people grew. Imagine your fellow brothers and sisters being shot indiscriminately just because they asked to be judged based on merit. Won’t you be angry? But even then, until sheikh Hasina resigned, students committed no violence on anyone. Unfortunately, things were about to change…. 4) after sheikh Hasina resigned and everyone was celebrating, a group of people stormed the Gono bhaban (president’s house) and looted the place. They were also vandalizing local stores. But remember that this is a protest lead by students and many of the vandalizers were not students (evident from the videos). However, students quickly spread the word on the internet and volunteering groups started forming to bring back a lot of the stolen property and safeguard the existing government properties. Most people online shunned such behavior of vandalism as well and encouraged everyone to do the right thing. 5) later that night, we started hearing that temples were being attacked and minority stores were being attacked. Some of these attacks did indeed happen but we realized by cross checking that many of the pictures spreading on social media were recycled. Meaning some pictures from violence that took place in 2018 and 2022 were being reused as recent pictures of recent attacks. Screenshots (social media communication screenshots) also started circulating of Bangladesh Chatro League members directing attacks on local minorities and temples. The objective was to create a Muslim vs other religion situation and trigger unrest. Students were also immediate to take actions in this regard. They formed local groups to provide protection to religious monitors. Pictures, posts and calls of these groups providing protection to minorities circulated the internet. Muslims were protecting the temples and churches. It was a beautiful scene. 6) later at night, after the police that unjustly killed students got scared. They formed a coalition, accessed the armory and went on a March on the street. Nobody knew where they were going but they were shooting left and right on their way and we lost many fellow countrymen. A rumor also started circulating that these people were Indian RAW agents but everyone was asking for evidence for such claims, many even laughed it off. Ultimately, the raw rumors weee debunked. 7) Dear people, what we went through is a revolution. A Revolution to create an independent, corruption and violence free Bangladesh. Instability and violence are typical elements of a revolution but that moment of vulnerability doesn’t define a nation. We are in the process of forming an interim government today and will declare general elections soon. People have made one thing clear: no Bangladesh national party, no Jamaat and certainly no theocracy. We, the current generation are committed to creating a Bangladesh where people of all age, color, race and religion can live in peace. Will it be achieved in one day? No, but we are committed to it and we will protect our fellow brothers from any religious extremism. We want to be a proud nation like as well but we must be given the chance to rebuild. Please don’t define us by our lowest moments. It’s important to see the whole picture. Thank you for listening

At first Students didn’t targeted Sheikh Hasina, Rather we were seeking Justice , & Logical decision. But, the court was delaying & Government tried to suppress students demand. On 14th July, Awami League party General Secretary Obaidul Quader ordered the Awami League Students wing to Suppress Protestors at any means. And 15 th July, they attacked on protesters. Later, on 16th July, "Abu Sayeed " A co-ordinator of the Protests from Rangpur was brutally shoot by police while he was standing with open arm & didn’t do anything or attacked. That incident caused eruption & on the later 17th July & 18th July Police started to shoot at protesters. Later, when the Govt announced 5% Freedom fighter Quota & 93% general quota, the govt. Also started to arrest students, teachers who supported the protesters & lots of civilians imposing false accusations. Within 28th July 10,000 civilian, students & underaged minority students were arrested. That caused a volcanic reaction & Students demanded 9 point. Because Where BD police were unjustly killing students, protesters were being falsely accused of those death where we had clear proof. Later, they detained 6 Co-ordinators of the protest & compels false statement saying that they've withdrawn protest. But general Students didn’t fall for that trap, they were seeking Justice & continued protesting against govt. But the Government denied their voice & continued suppressing them, on 3rd August DB Police were forced to free the 6 co-ordinators of the protest (One Coordinator were abducted from hospital) At that moment almost 400+ students, civilians & journalists were killed by BD Police, & the goons of Awami League. On 4th July, 2-3 million people gathered at Shaheed Minar, Dhaka & all of their demand come at One point, due to the deeds of Autocratic Government. They were soo frustrated & all of their right of freedom of Speech, expression were taken away (they did it long ago,human rights were violating for soo long). And finally on 5th August they took down Autocratic dictator of BD. Afterwards, The people did looted PM's house but Students were able to retrieve 80% belongings & taken back to the "GonoBhaban" (PM's House). And, The rumours that are spreading about Burning temples was fake. Some of political leaders were attacked by civilians due to their deeds, corruption & suppression. But media is portraying only "Hindu Leaders were attacked " which is not the actual case, Other religion’s leaders of govt. Also attacked. But, Awami League tried to seek attention saying it was Communal violence. Students already prevented Communal violence & Guarded Minorities temples & their houses. Bangabandhu's statue was destroyed, from the anger of civilians, but he was not a hero after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. In 1972 when he formed govt. He also tried to establish One party rule named "Bakshal". And also dismissed all the political party in 4th amendment of constitution of Bangladesh. That's why, in 1975 Military Coup happened. Point to be noted : These students didn’t run by any political party, it was totally a non-political protest at first. BNP didn’t even get a chance to come near of the protesters.

Thank you Mohak for covering this. I am an avid viewer of Soch. As a Bangladeshi, I feel inclined to clarify a few things said in this video. Hasina’s govt. has often used violence against minorities to create communal chaos. And we know this. And students and protestors have been vigilant about protecting minorities all over Bangladesh. Students have gathered at places of any reported violence against the Hindu community to protect the people. We are constantly sharing any information we get about violence on social media so that people in proximity can help out. The general public is guarding and protecting mandirs because we know Awami League’s student body will try to vandalize and set these temples on fire just so that they can blame the protestors. We are trying our best to protect the minorities. As a part of the majority population in Bangladesh, we are trying to keep the people who try to use our religious differences against us at bay. Since 2009 Bangladesh has not had any proper elections, we did not have democracy, hence after Hasina’s rajakar comment students started chanting “ami k? Tumi k? Rajakar. Rajakar. K bolechhe? K bolechhe? Shoirachar. Shoirachar” which roughly translates to “who are we? Rajakar. Who said it? The dictator”. The students protested peacefully through and through. They were not setting vehicles or hospitals on fire. Awami League’s student body and the police ( and the Awami League student body who were armed with illegal guns) started brutally shooting rubber bullets and real bullets at students and the political student body set two hospitals on fire; the protestors and general public called fire dept. There were injured protestors and sick people in the hospital. Why would they kill their own? Lastly, The military in Bangladesh is pro awami league where the chief of the army whom we see explaining the situation in this video is Hasina’s relative. The reason why they refused to attack more students was the fact that on 5th August, for the long march, the protestors (the general public had joined in since the 18th July massacre) were considering taking knives and whatever they had at home to take with them to the protests to protect themselves from mainly the police and the Awami League student body. People were making makeshift bulletproof vests. Everyone understood that the people of Bangladesh were not going to stop till we got rid of the dictatorship. The army was running over unarmed protestors with their vehicles so were the police, so they were not here to help/protect the people of Bangladesh. We don’t want such horrible people in power, we don’t want BNP because they are a whole different can of worms. We want to reform the govt, have democracy, and have secularism.

But all that aside, I would like to clarify the current situation regarding Hindu minorities. These self destructive people have only one motive in mind, that is to create divide and make us vulnurable. As of right now, look up on local Bangladeshi news outlets, you will see we muslims are guarding temples and pagodas all across the nation. And as for the pictures of broken statues of Hindu Gods, those were sourced from a violent event back in 2022. The entire country is not a bunch of illiterates and we are trying to fix our nation as quickly as possible, and yes we are civilized enough to understand what responsibility we have towards our Hindu brothers. A 6years old girl was who was playing on the roof with her father was shot in the head from a helicopter. The awami league were killing people in broad daylight. They were even beating school girls and college girls. The police were ordered to shoot any students in sight. They shut down the internet and killed, injured and arrested anyone they wanted. More than a thousand people were killed in just the span of 2 weeks. The movement was led by the students. They were killed but they still fought unarmed. Hasina was a dictator who did anything she wanted and her party was looting, threatening and killing anyone they pleased. I don't know what you feel but the people of Bangladesh couldn't stand the killing of thousands of people. Bangladesh is free now. It'll take time to get things in proper manner but we are trying. Students are cleaning the streets, they are maintaining traffic in the absence of police. The people are more united than ever. We finally have a voice to speak.

You've done an excellent analysis, but I feel like it needs some slight corrections so here is the chronology of events: 1) The Quota/Reservation protest was relatively peaceful 2) Replying to a journalist about the protest, she indirectly implied the other students are Razakers. 3) This greatly offended the students and protest became even stronger but still relatively peaceful. 4) Hasina's minister Khadir sent in his goons Chattra League, to quell the protest and then it bacame violent. 5) Hasina's minister Khan then sent in riot police to shoot on sight. Then it became even more violent. 6) Hundreds of students were kill by the goons together with the police. 7) Hasina tried to appease the students at this point, with the Quota they initially asked for. 8) The Quota protest was no longer their priority after so many deaths. They wanted a regime change now. Also the army were not actively involved in the riots.

An honest confession from a fed up pessimistic Bangladeshi who left the country because of being fed up of the situation of Bangladesh under Hasina regime. I thought at the start of this quota movement that nothing is gonna happen as always. This movement is also going to fail like the previous quota movement of 2018 and the govt will just keep doing whatever they want to do. I was one of the frustrated supporters of the previous quota movement. But i was pleasantly surprised by the current students, they have shown us what we lacked. They did the most unimaginable thing within such a short time. This is commendable, this makes me hopeful for the future of my country and so proud. This hope is giving me confidence that the students will not stop now, they will lead Bangladesh to be a proper democracy. Historically, Awami league has always been comparatively more favorable than BNP and Jamat. If the student toppled the Awami league government it is safe to say that they will not let BNP and Jamat to harm us again. I have faith in them. Yes, it is going to take time. Yes, we have a lot to do to fix us. All we ask of our Indian brothers is to have faith, have patience and to keep sending all the positive energies and blessings towards us.
