I thought for a moment this sounds familiar until google told me this Crying at the Discoteque" is a song by Swedish band Alcazar from their debut studio album, Casino (2000). The track samples Sheila and B. Devotion's 1979 hit "Spacer".

Hey David. I absolutely LOVE this song and always have. It was a dance floor filler back in 79/80 in the UK and all over Europe. I lived in Germany and France during that time and it was very popular and deservedly so...oh the memories! Thanks for showcasing this one again...❤️

I remember when Sheila was popular with several songs, in the 1970s. I like this song and always have.

Her hits career in France extends from 1963 to 1983. At least 50 Ep's or singles that she sold at least 100 000 copies (just in her country) and often much more, up to 700 000 (+ LP, "best of", sales more modest, reissues and foreign sales till today).

Yet another great song from that legendary duo Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards of the Chic Organisation. You did not miss much by missing the music video as it was pretty awful if I remember correctly. Sheila's album was not Nile & Nard's finest moment but had some classics on it. Spacer was never a huge hit down here (in Australia) but strangely it has been used in a very recent TV commercial (for a car I think). In the same year Chic put out albums for Sister Sledge, Chic themselve ('Good Times', 'My Forbidden Lover' and 'My Feet Keep Dancing') and the biggest album of Diana Ross' career ('Upside Down', 'I'm Coming Out and many more classic cuts). And soon after they put together Debbie Harry's first solo album.

No-one knew who they were (here in UK), but it was deservedly still a hit. Sheila/Annie is a contemporary of the Abba girls, and her style is a bit ABBA-esque, je dirais. p.s. I don't know how it might fit in to your Abba reaction schedule, but I'd love it if you reacted to Agnetha's 1975 Sommarnöjet performance.

Sure, Sheila was much less known in the word than Abba. But in France, in 1979, she was the most popular singer since 1963 ans she's the french artiste female who sold the most records. Today, she hardly sells anything anymore like many others of her generation but she still have a lot of fans, she's always on stage and she stays very popular, she's an icon of french popular music.

OK, so, I'm not wealthy enough to be a gold star paying patrion, I can barely afford broadband each month, but I hope you listen to us poor viewers too. Songs you would like: Dollar - pretty much any single but I'd start with Videotheque. Toyah - Again, any single but possibly Rebel Run to start and Kim Wilde - never trust a stranger with your heart and most of her singles too.

I lived through the disco years. Not the strongest act I've ever heard in spite of Niles Rodgers' involvement. (look him up). I know European disco is very different than the US so I get the appeal.
