As a lesbian contemporary of Sheila, I will say that she certainly DOES NOT speak for all lesbians by any measure. She conflates all manner of cross-dressing/transvestitism/transexualism with aplomb. 50 years ago, here in the states, we tended to lump everything under transvestitism with no distinctions. A riot was nearly started at a mid-70s gay pride day rally in Washington Square in NYC. I know this because I was there. Jean O’Leary accused the transvestites of supporting the patriarchy by wearing women’s clothing. Bette Midler showed up, and saved the day. She had us all on our feet singing ‘Friends’. And NOW it doesn’t help anyone to conflate transvestites, and transexuals by simply accusing ALL of these men of hating women. Her points on gender vs. sex is spot on, but using 50 year old feminist tracts, that weren’t helpful then, as if they’ll be useful now, is absurd. We can and should object to self-ID, and allowing men in women’s spaces, but it does not help STILL to label all cross-dressing or transexualism as wrong. And it is certainly wrong-headed to assume ALL lesbians of lock-step agreement on these matters. I’m sure the lesbian ‘police’ are revving their motors for me...again. I wasn’t obedient in my 20s either. LOL

you’ve got to understand that gay men are psychologically not the same as straight men. It’s gay men expressing the part of themselves that is not masculine. That doesn’t mean though that I particularly like it or think it should be normalised at story time at the library.
