I am an old git and loved The Good Old Days. This is one of the best turns ever.

I am another old git. I fondly remember watching The Good Old Days. I also remeber Sheila Steafel as the White Lady in The Ghosts of Motley Hall, another great show.

@@davidfarnes4615 Here's another old git, one who had the pleasure and honour of meeting Miss Steafel after a performance of Paris Match at The Garrick Theatre in 1989. I told her she'd stolen the show. The critics backed me up on this.

@@andrewthornhill7042 Never had the pleasure of seeing her live myself. I do remember watching her play the White Lady in The Ghosts of Motley Hall on TV, I am sure I watched every episode.

What a sad day, I absolutely loved watching Sheila on 'The Good Old Days' and the 'Ghosts of Motley Hall' was a must after school on the telly.. RIP dear lady your unique and wonderful talents will be sorely missed... :(

I am in absolute shock to hear of Sheila's sudden death today. I posted this clip of Popsy Wopsy in complete admiration of a wonderful actress both straight and comedic. She e.mailed me her thanks as she thought she had been forgotten. She said my posting revived casters interest in her again. I was SO thrilled she contacted me. Her star should have shone way brighter than it did. I discussed seeing her in The Merry Wives Of Windsor (RSC) and A Day In Hollywood A Night In The Ukraine and she was ecstatic as they were 2 of her favourite roles/productions. She was a great great talent and will be incredibly missed. EDWARD.

I remember seeing this when I was a kid and it had me in stitches. Thanks a million to the person who posted it so I could enjoy it again (and get the joke about her being the MC's 'niece' which I was too young to figure out!

Sheila Steafel bequeathed Popsy Wopsy's costume to the Victoria & Albert Museum where it still remains. Though not currently on display, it's depicted on their website.

That's really interesting to know...thank you. In one of my e.mails to Sheila she was considering selling it but didn't think she'd get much for it. I would have bought it like a shot. Great piece of music hall history. I will check out the V and A website now..👍🏻👍🏻

@@edward311Some of her paintings, sculptures and so on are still on sale on various salvage sites online from her estate. I bought one huge oil painting that she did of a pregnant lady when she was desperate for a baby in the early 60s. She and Harry at that time lived very near to where I would live 30 years later in NW3 and it was framed 60 years ago (label is still on it!) in a shop I used to walk past every day on the Finchley Road. I was listening to that very precise part of the audiobook of her autobiography when I came across it by total coincidence and I felt I just had to have it: it was like she had directed me to it in a strange way. I didn’t want it to end up with someone who didn’t know why she painted it/the pain she had put into it, so at least it is with someone who knows the backstory!

My 1st celebrity crush. I adored Sheila. The ghosts of motley hall was just brilliant, I wanted all women to be Sheila steafel, with a glass or 10 in hand. Unfortunately it never happened..
