"this ayah has been sent down for is very extreme situation not for everyday life" Where in the Quran (a clear book by its own admission) does it say it's for extreme situations only? If we need some scholar to "interpret" and "theorise" about what the Quran meant (since it doesn't say that), that does not square with the Quran's own statement of being clear and complete and detailed.

And say ur wife not u but ur wife or the elder brother or sister of the teenager slightly slaps the teen to prevent him from doing drugs I don't see a problem . (4:34) - Ibn Kathir commentary confirms the "beat them" section without "lightly" added by some translators. - Your example about a teenager is BS, the Quran says nothing of teenagers in that verse, it clearly (for a change) addresses the wives.

Haha from seeing some of the comments, I realized It's very difficult to infuse the thought of "wife-beating" in this modern age due to the whole rave about "equality". Personally, I found that what Dr Zakir Naik said is absolutely logical on how the beating of wife lightly is symbolic, and more importantly, he also mentions how if man and woman just started physically beating each other then the problem cannot be solved (with a hilarious example of Arnold Schwarzenegger). To put in on context of the modern world, if an organization starts saying everyone has equal rights (CEOs, Stakeholders, managers, staffs) in terms of the roles and responsibilities just imagine the disaster waiting to happen in that organization. Similarly, I think, the point is, both men and women have different roles and they need each other to live on. Islam, is that perfect example/guide on how we should live life. One shouldn't just assume, that Muslims young or old, are beating their wives up. Sure, there a number of rotten apples among the Muslims who badly bruise their wives in a haram manner, but hey, similarly, rotten apples exists in other cultures too. I can go on and on about the violence in the west, but I choose not to because I have a couple of western friends who are absolutely perfect in their virtues; it'll be wrong to judge the west based on those rotten apples. Do remember we're one of the largest religion in the world, these rotten apples are bound to exist in such a huge group of peace lovers.

There is no "haram" or "halal" way of beating, abuse is abuse, and that's disgusting.. u probably don't even know what gender equality now days debates ( which is insane), abuse to innocent ppl is an non negotiable incident, if ppl justify it , then society is corrupted
@TigasFMS2 жыл бұрын
Sorry man but you're trying to justify something that is not justifiable or rational. You're pretty much saying women are inferior if you admit a man can beat her but the woman can't beat the man. There's ALOT of stuff that Islam defends that I agree, believe me. However, we need to question things and the fact there's an "etiquette" on how to beat a woman is very concerning. I'm not a feminist, nor pro-LGBT or stuff like that but this is one of the things that is indefensible and that muslims will always try and fail to justify .
@ahjeee19922 жыл бұрын
Ah. I wanted to ignore the replies here because any argument made will result in a loop/debate of an unfound basis of "equality". Anyways, to the both of you geniuses who replied me, yes, abuse is bad. Everybody knows that. You don't abuse anyone, man or women. It's a given. However, you're losing the main point here. A system where man and women shares the same spot in terms of leading the family, becomes very difficult to manage. So Islam, teaches us the roles of man and women. They're not equal. Period. The women has rights which man has to honor. The man has rights which women has to honor. It's a clear system to run your family. Now regarding, the abuse, as mentioned, we're not allowed to physically harm women.. The point made was that it's symbolic, and, Dr Zakir Naik already explained why it's symbolic. I don't have to repeat that.
@adamgillespie33932 жыл бұрын
@@ahjeee1992 forgive me if I'm asking to much but, why is this the best way of running a family? Where a man is the main power and the woman is secondary. I know many households that are very happy without these rules of gender inequality.
@ahjeee19922 жыл бұрын
@@adamgillespie3393 hey man. No worries. I think it's a very sensible question. A question which should be posed to a knowledgeable scholar. However, here are my thoughts. Honestly, I know a number of households too whom are very happy with the idea of equality as a basis of their relationship. However, often, at least from personal experience, I hear alot of unnecessary friction in how they should run the family. In an analogy, it's like 2 captains trying to steer away from an ice berg, one says he wants to go left, another says she wants to go right. If one of the captain managed to convince the other, they would barely miss the ice berg. Else, they will hit the ice berg. In a real world example, often I hear about how the man wants a child and he's afraid his wife will get too old to conceive. The wife is afraid that it'll affect her career progression (and she's right to be afraid) and that becomes a reason for her not to conceive or maybe conceive at a later time. You'll see many surveys online where women in this modern age prioritizes career over having a child. Now the problem here is, though it's the man whom wants the child, no matter how much he tries he can't bear a child. Only a women can. So the man unfortunately, won't be able to fulfill the role of a women who can bear a child, and have to wait for the women to be either be convinced by him or be convinced by her career progression. Sure there are many households in which the men and women are both working adults and have children. But they must have worked really hard to make it work. They narrowly "missed the ice berg". As for clearly defined roles, where, the ship has only 1 captain. It's easier to run the family or "steer the ship". Of course however, many rotten scums (let's not call them man cause they're not real man) have abused this.

True. I checked on Google just to have proof... Google says there are more men than women...In America the percentage of women is higher but globally there are more men in ratio. So that means every woman can be married easily to a man without being PUBLIC PROPERTY which I think the term he has used is extremely deteriorating because so many women these days don't want to be married because of the fear of being cheated on and I think it's terrible to say that a woman will be public's property when she doesn't need to belong to anyone. There were times when women were not secure financially as well as physically but I think any woman is capable to live a life on her own if she wants to.

Here is a quote translated into english that comes from the Quran. Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. That can be found on the 34th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa). Yes -beating your wife is permissible.

@@ADCB510 im assuming your an intelligent individual, and if you are then ANYTHING that doesn't claim to be the word of God has to be questioned. The hadeeth was put together for humans by humans on what we know as today to be hear say. You are indirectly disrespecting God's word as in the quran by placing a man written hadeeth on the same level as that. Think about it for a second if the hadeeth was so important and an internal part of islam why didn't the prophet mention or write this himself or even supervise this whilst he was alive, more importantly why no mention in the quran. Also why so many hadeeths, all claim to be authentic, and of course we know they are not because of the inconsistencies and contradictions. mohammed kameron ALHAMDULILLAH I am intelligent. And I have enough knowledge of Islam as I study it Alhamdulillah! But your comment here proved me that you don’t have much knowledge, and for what I would advice you to study more on the Qur’an and Ahadeeths, rather than debating online. It’s only wasting time if you choose that. As a result, after this, I won’t reply to you. Allah says in the Qur’an in Surah Noor, chapter 24, verse 54: 54. Say, "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away - then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification." Allah Himself told the believers, that follow the Messenger. Ahadeeths give us commentary and explanations on the verses of Allah, without referring to Ahadeeths, one can’t completely understand the Qur’an, as the Qur’an was revealed in 23 years over the life time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) on different occasions. So we don’t give Ahadeeths the equal rights as that of Qur’an, rather refer to Ahadeeths for the explanations on the verses, for better understanding. Qur’an is the word of Allah and the ultimate guide for the mankind.
@ADCB5104 жыл бұрын
mohammed kameron Prophet Muhammad (peace be you him), was an illiterate man. That’s why the first revelations that came to mankind from Allah was “1. Recite in the name of your Lord who created -“ (96:1). Therefore the claims of the disbelievers during his life time was useless that the words of Allah is created by a man because Prophet (peace be upon him), could not have made it on his own when he didn’t know how to read and write. Also, Ahadeeths means narrations which records actions/ words/sayings of the Prophet (peace be join him and the righteous followers after him). So whatever words Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned, it was memorised and written by his companions. As a result, it’s called authentic. There are many classifications of Ahadeeths- there is Saheeh Ahadeeths, there is Hasan Ahadeeths, there is Daeef (the weak) Ahadeeths, and then the Mawdhu (the fabricated) Ahadeeths. By what you say was true, there wouldn’t be categories of Daeef (weak) and Mawdhu (fabricated) Ahadeeths. Ahadeeths weren’t just transferred like that, it was noted with much care, and there are further classifications on chain of narrators, where in if anyone had mental issues, or were liars, their words of Hadeeth mentioned were not taken. Kindly seek right knowledge, or else don’t sit here to debate uselessly.

As a muslim, I'm disappointed with this answer. Men are not necessarily always right when arguing, them what makes him automatically granted the opportunity to "warn" and "beat her lightly"? What makes the woman have to bare the pain of someone else? Especially when females are more delicate in nature, and men more dominant/stronger, beating can be painful, no matter how light, and can get worse by time. This is pure physical abuse.

Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. 5 But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. 6 For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Genesis 45:5-8 Do not be discouraged no matter what you go through, keep the faith like Joseph even in hard times and God will deliver you as long you keep doing the right thing even when its hard and even when the culture says its not "cool". His brothers sold him into slavery, then he was cast into prison for being a just man and not sleeping with his masters wife who turned on him, to being promoted to ruler over the whole house of Egypt. MORAL OF THE STORY: Never give up on God! He will never give up on you! He leaves the 99 to come find you in the wilderness. Keep the Faith Always NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. These days Satan is trying to get everybody living in fear so he can try to control us. Don't Buy into it. There's a lot of deception out here. You were bought with a price that JESUS paid for. Give your life to him and he will protect you and shelter you from all darkness and fear. He gives you PEACE that no one or anything else is able to. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 "Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:78-79 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. See how Naik avoids the question and begins questioning the man and starts talking in a manner that confuses us and we forget the question. The sad bit is that Islam doesn’t really respect women. Yes it provides protection, but this means being controlled by men. The man is always right. So it’s ok to beat the wife. Violence isn’t just physical. It can be mental. There is a difference in position/hierarchy within the family between a husband and wife. This is something that is not understood in our modern world. The man/husband is the head/boss of the family. The wife is his subordinate. If she is righteous and obeys and pleases her husband, it will be said to her, "Enter through whichever gate of paradise you wish." Such is not the case for the man. We are on Earth with different roles, each with different tests and trials which ultimately signify obedience to Allah's Command for which we are rewarded.

I love islam and I try to follow it dearly. As a muslim we believe that if we live our life according to sunnah = the way prophet lead his life- full stop. Again I will say; THE WAY HE LEAD HIS LIFE- full stop. How may times he lightly beat his wife. ZERO, ZILCH, NADA, DIDLY SQUAT. This lightly beating is an option and not a compulsion, more over the last of the 2. And the disobedience is not that she has put extra salt in the food but some serious kind of disobedience. The prophet PBUH when he used to give his sermons, people used to sit hunched over with lowered gaze and all ears. It was described as if birds are sitting on them and they don't want to move as they may fly away. And the wives some times would question or argue with prophet PBUH. Arabs used to bury their daughters alive before islam came and subhanAllah , Islam gave them rights of inheritance, right to choose their spouse. Paradise was promised to them if they raise their daughters in a good way. I am afraid Dr Zakir Naik (he is an excellent scholar) could not explain it properly. Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: ' The best among you is the one who is good to his family'. Wallah o alam.

@azadalishah29664 жыл бұрын
Salam ZN, Pls hv a look at this. And review your answers with deep research. BEATING WIFE? Is it true Really? Beating,slapping n any physical violence against any human is cruel n lack of dignity. Quran should be in sync with Sahi Hadith. There cant be contradiction between Sahi Hadith & Quran. Our Rasool SAW cant contradict with what Quran says. If there is any contradiction, its our lack of understanding or "perhaps" mistake in human narration or mistake in interpretation(Allah SWT knows best). Quran was written in Pure classic Arabic & it was famous for its poetic language. The word "beat" people use in this verse in Quran (4:34) comes from the Arabic word "daraba" which has multiple and many many meanings like beat, tab, "strike" and many other..100s usage (pls see link below) .... Instead of translating it as beat, why not take it as "strike different path/way if other 2 optionsI(talk to them suasively, leave them alone in bed - as mentined in Quran - 4:34) fails"? I will take simplest, safest n purest meaning - "strike a different path" rather than "beating". Let me support my interpretation with Hadith: As per Hadith a Muslim can't even beat an animal on face, see the respect Allah gv to face. There r nearly 10 Hadiths which warn not to beat wife. Beating is disgusting, no matter hw much verbal fight happens. As I simply detest those people who resort physical violence and let me share some strict warning from Allah swt for those who love physical violence. When Rasool SAW didnt beat any human(forget beating wife), why one shud adopt physical violence for any conflict? In so many Hadith Allah SWT strictly prohibits beating wife: 1) In Abu-Dawud, Ibn Ma'jah, Tirmidhi says - "Men who beat their wives are not best amonst u" 2) ... do not beat your wife"(Abu Dawud, Book 1, Number 0142 ) 3) Rasool SAW didnt beat & revenge any1: 'A'isha reported that Allah's Messenger SAW never beat anyone with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, but only, in the case when he had been fighting in the cause of Allah and he never took revenge for anything unless the things made inviolable by Allah were made violable; he then took revenge for Allah, the Exalted and Glorious.(Sahih Muslim,Book 030, Number 5756) 4) ...Give them food what you have for yourself, and clothe them by which you clothe yourself, and do not beat them, and do not revile them. (Abu Dawud, Book 11, Number 2139) 5) .... Approach your tilth when or how you will, give her (your wife) food when you take food, clothe when you clothe yourself, do not revile her face, and do not beat her. (Abu Dawud, Book 11, Number 2138) 6) ....."How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel and then he may embrace (sleep with) her?" (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 68) 7) Prophet suggested woman to reject wife beater's proposal for marriage. Fatima bint Qais (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Mu'awiya, Abu Jahm and Usama b. Zaid had given her the proposal of marriage. Allah's Messenger SAW said: So far as Mu'awiya is concerned, he is a poor man without any property. So far as Abu Jahm is concerned, he is a great beater of women, but Usama b. Zaid... She pointed with her hand (that she did not approve of the idea of marrying) Usama. But Allah's Messenger SAW said: Obedience to Allah and obedience to His Messenger is better for thee. She said: So I married him, and I became an object of envy.(Sahih Muslim, Book 009, Number 3526) PHYSICAL CONFLICT WITH OTHERS: Forget beating wife, Allah SWT even forbid touching face when fighting with others. And imagine how today's Muslims try to attack face first in any physical conflict. Our Prophet peace be upon him did specify that the beating must not include the face. Hitting the face of any human being and even animal is not allowed in Islam. a) ...'The Prophet forbade beating on the face.' (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Hunting, Slaughtering, Volume 7, Book 67, Number 449)" b) "...When one of you inflicts a beating, he should avoid striking the face.. (Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 38, Prescribed Punishments (Kitab Al-Hudud), Number 4478)" c) Even with slaves, if one slaps his slave in the face, then he must set him free: ".... He who beats a slave without cognizable offence of his or slaps him, then expiation for it is that he should set him free. (Translation of Sahih Muslim, The Book of Oaths (Kitab Al-Aiman), Book 015, Number 4079)" The above Sayings of our beloved Prophet peace be upon him preserve the human dignity from being compromised. There is no need to humiliate the person (any person) if you ever have to enter into a physical confrontation with him.. Of course, fighting by choice is also not allowed in Islam. Let me turn the table, "assuming" above verses of Quran is "considered" to b rightly interpreted, there is many clear Hadith which says not to beat wife but treat well as I showed above, which means we have a contradictory/doubtful info ? ISLAM "CLEARLY" SAYS TO AVOID DOUBTFUL MATTERS: "That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear and between the two of them are doubtful [or ambiguous] matters about which not many people are knowledgeable. Thus, he who avoids these doubtful matters certainly clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor. But he who falls into the doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. .....”. [al-Bukhari and Muslim] So one can't just say, Wife beating is allowed in Islam for any reason and u cant attack generally any human(even animal) on face. So Muslim brothers stop using/thinking the favorite phrase "slap his/her face". Forget beating wife, prophet Muhammad SAW chose best option & "forgave" and "prayed" for the people of Taif who stoned him and blood was flowing from his body and his shoes were soaked with blood, even when Allah SWT sent Angel Jibril (AS) to kill them by crushing between mountains (Imgine what we will do to our enemy when they stone us). Prophet Muhamnad is the best example of Islam & he took purest option. So, I will take easier, safer, simpler & purer path. Allah swt knows best. May Allah swt forgive me if I committed any mistake. Ameen Read full analysis of beating wife here... at least read summary...: please see 100s of usage of daraba/drab www.quran434.com/wife-beating-islam.html .
