This is me noticing my relationship with social media and being accountable: While watching this video I wanted your headphones, the embroidered dress, the dresser, the pad mirror (lol), door hangers for hanging hats, a linen button-down shirt...I did not buy any of these things, but I'm trying to catch myself every time the urge to window shop arises.

Decluttering tip: don't have kids or a partner (I'm like 90% serious), because I find I really can only declutter on my own behalf. My husband is not on board and my two young kids even less so. What has helped for me personally with clothes is to be really honest about what I actually wear in my life. I am trying to migrate my mindset from liking a specific item on its own and wanting to buy it (and then having to buy more items to make a whole outfit) to develop more of a capsule-style wardrobe with interchangeable pieces. I get rid of things if I don't wear them even if I like them and think about wearing them.

My husband is very easy influenced to declutter. We do once a year and I find out he’s able to declutter more things than me. 😂 My children’s they just have the ability to let it go cause it doesn’t fit them. They grow so fast to get attached to any piece of clothing. Overall I’m the one with the problem. 😬

@@zingara76 wish I could say the same! My husband does not like to get rid of anything, even if it doesn't fit anymore. My kids have inherited the "dragon" hoarding gene (as I like to think of it) and really resist getting rid of their clothes (more toys). My daughter will keep shoes until they are 3 sizes too small and literally killing her feet, haha! I take matters into my own hands with the kids' things for now.

@@carlyandersen3588my now husband and his family LOVE to keep things and are very sentimental. I was a minimalist before I met my husband and I shared my experience with him on probably our second date. All of a sudden he started getting rid of things which im so thankful for. If you manage the home, laundry cleaning and what not (basically a homemaker) and are overwhelmed one perspective I mention to people to bring up to there partners (cuz often woman start the journey once married ) is to let them know that it’s overwhelming for you to manage certain areas cuz of how much stuff there is. And also to gently remind them that our memories aren’t in our things but our minds. Something to keep in mind though is that peoples things are often a security “blanket” and that decluttering is an emotional process and often goes hand in hand with emotional healing and or letting go of the past.

One of my decluttering "hacks" that I've been practicing for more than 10 years: I bought 50 beautiful wood hangers for my closet and only have 50 clothing items hanging I donated/gave away the rest. For 10+ years I still only have have 50 hangers, 50 hangable clothing items (shirts/pants/dresses/coats/sweaters) If I buy something new, something on one of the hangers has to go. I do not hang on to old sizes and stuff that doesn't fit or might fit one day. Be realistic. One thing I learned from doing this is some older items like a suit blazer I bought from Lane Bryant at least 15 years ago still looks great. Same with some old work blouses that I still wear today, those clothes held up well and were made with quality. Whereas an Old Navy tee will get holes in it after a few washes. Quality is always better than quantity.

my current crochet project (that i‘m working on while watching this video) is a free hand flower vest for my sister. she‘s going to a wedding and the dress code is „colorful“ and bc it‘s a lesbian wedding i thought i would make the vest the colors of the lesbian flag :) also, for me (a queer 20 year old) it‘s a huge deal that it‘s a lesbian wedding, since here in switzerland we‘ve only had marriage equality for 2 years now and seeing couples getting married is pretty cool and healing in a way :) so the vest means a lot to me, hahaha.

sorry, I move and put everything in boxes, hoping that I will declutter later 😅 not my thing. And there are very few items that I would ever buy the same thing again. I was thinking g I could list them, but have to admit, it is more than a handful, but basically mainly kitchen and bathroom stuff, and weirdly the tall IKEA kallax unit, that I have used in so many apartments now as storage for the hallway. Clothing - really very little I would buy the exact same thing again, but similar items, yes sure...

I was knitting a new tee shirt while watching and was surprised to see the room transform into a craft room at the end! I love that you try and do so many different crafts and are able to get supplies from a second hand craft store. We don’t have anything like that local to me but I’m hearing about more and more of them. So fingers crossed. I end up putting most of my clothes budget into buying yarn so I can make my own winter accessories, Xmas gifts, and tees, tanks, socks, and sweaters. I still buy jeans and shorts and underwear but it’s been incredibly empowering for me to be able to buy sustainable, GOTS certified, organic, or recycled fibers yarn and then make a new piece of clothing from scratch. As a plus sized woman it can be so hard to find things that fit properly and now I’m able to have clothes that I love and am comfortable wearing and I know where the yarn came from and what kind of business I’m supporting when I buy it. That said…it’s an incredibly expensive hobby once you start delving into locally produced, Small batch and small business over commercially produced yarn. But I think it’s worth it. Now if I only I can figure out a better storage solution than hidden in an ottoman….

I don’t necessarily have a decluttering “tip,” but I have found my motivation to clean and declutter with my existential tendencies. I believe “Swedish Death Cleaning” is a similar (if not the same) concept where you find motivation or find reason to declutter items that you don’t see friends or family wanting after your passing. It isn’t the healthiest way of thinking, but I am motivated by the idea that I would rather tackle a project myself than putting that burden on my loved ones. A little morbid… but maybe that will help someone (or maybe you will feel validated in your thoughts)!

furniture tip: i know y'all didn't have to go far, but taking the drawers out first makes the unit lighter and easier to move 😊my frugality tip is to ask myself if i will "use it x dollars worth". is it really so unique, comfortable, flattering, cute, or functional unlike anything else i own that i need to buy it? they say that 30 wears for a piece of clothing offsets the environmental costs to make it, so i imagine myself wearing it that many times (besides formal wear). as for decluttering, i'm very sentimental and it's difficult 😅but i do have a lot of things i love and i try to weed out the things i avoid reaching for. i used to donate a lot and think about how someone else could use it more, but now i'm also conscious of the idea that it could end up in a landfill instead of someone's hands :( so it's a very delicate balance

I have swimsuits from Monday Swimwear that have been amazing and held up for years. They may not be as sustainable as GC, but they are amazing quality that will last and have better shipping options that most. I also found out they donate portions of sales throughout the year to different organizations

Waterlust is my current fave bathing suit brand! Made from recycled plastic bottles, each design has a conservation theme (I love the mantis shrimp print), and they have full coverage bodysuits up to 3xl! I wish they went even bigger, but I've had good conversations with them via the help email about requests and they've said they will work on it - they do a lot of research before they put out new styles and sizes etc.

My best cleaning/tidying/organizing tip is to repeat yourself. Don’t put it down put it away. It’s kind of like the one touch method, but a little chine to remember it by don’t put it down put it away!

I also made my dining room my craft area! it makes so much more sense to make it multipurpose bc it's such a large space and ours is so central to our common area. and it's still pretty easy to clean up for dining whenever necessary!

I also do no buy/low buy once a month either before or after I pay rent 😊 I do also shop on Amazon but I always leave stuff in my cart to think on and only make one purchase per month (if that) for items I can’t get second hand. Deleting the app and also browsing on my computer has also helped me make way less purchases ❤ love u both also LOL at yall trying to move the matress

Ivory soap and oxi clean will take out just about any stain. Except ink, which is rubbing alcohol; and oil, which is de-solv-it. I’m a nanny and I’ve tried everything.

I tend to go with a Marie kondo adjacent approach of things sparking joy when it comes to tops/jackets/etc. and a does it work approach for the rest. It makes me only buy shorts/pants when my current ones don’t work I also don’t buy multiple things for the same occasion unless that occasion happens frequently. I don’t need seven going out outfits if I go out maximum twice a month. I want the using what I have first and seeing where the gaps are to fuel my purchases

store cloths and textile raped in a fabric with some solid soap pieces and lavender it will keep them ship shape - no stains, dust, moth, animalsn smell. you wont even have to wash them. humidity catcher bagis are also helpfull. especially wolls and quality stuff even in separate one. fabric- cotton the thicker the better or 2 layers like old towels, junk textile, old big t shirts and bedsheets but wash it before. put solid soap and lavender (also other strong none staini herbs like that will help ) in different location of the pile and outside around the box. the lavender if isnt dry will just dry out naturally so its ok to put fresh just not wet.

I’ve started reading “the conscious closet” by Elizabeth L. Cline. I’m only about 50% into it but so far so good! I realized I have been telling myself for YEARS that I would only allow myself to buy new clothes once I changed my body to fit a certain standard, resulting in me not having many clothes that fit well. That’s something I have been working on: allowing myself to buy clothes that fit well and make me feel good about my body regardless of its’ size. Realizing I can sell my clothes and use that money to *invest* in other pieces that bring me joy has helped alleviate the guilt of decluttering pieces that, for all intents and purposes, are fine and just don’t fit anymore. Then the book has been helping me find my style and learn what to look for when looking for quality pieces in my wardrobe. :) A Summersalt swimsuit is one of the pieces I most recently invested in! Made from recycled plastic, and I think they may have had a few other certs too. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on if they’re sustainable or not 😁

I’m with Maddison on the mirror situation; it needs to go. But I love what you did with the room! I like the green dresser 😊. Happy crafting! I have a goal to finish my unfinished sewing projects by the end of the year. It might not be attainable, but I’m giving it a go. (I have like 2 dozen projects 😮).

13:25 woooow 🤯 that is so true. There’s a bunch of items in my closet I don’t wear or can’t wear but I love the item. Here’s the thing though, to your point - we don’t wear items! We wear outfits - and if I can’t figure out what to wear it with, why the hell keep it?!

Clothing wise I tend to declutter seasonally, which really means twice a year since I live in AZ its either hot or cold/chilly Lol I tend to ask myself if i didnt wear it last season am I really going to wear this time around. I have to initiate the declutter for my husband in order for it to happen. Also everything has a home, so if he wants to buy my shorts, but his dresser drawer is full then he needs to get rid of some before purchasing more. I definitely had a shopping problem back in high school/college, I have come a long way, but still have my moments of weakness. So i try to keep mine in check while keeping his in check 😅 I grew in a home where my parents did not like to throw anything away. It was a family of 7 in a small home, so it gave me hoarder vibes, but looking back it was more so because of the family size as well. I say all that to explain that I am not one to own items just for decor purposes or have a collection of coffee mugs etc. I feel like my house environment made me want to have a minimalist home, so its always an internal battle of not wanting clutter but also wanting/having craft items, enough to do something with, but not in excessive amount either if that make sense LOL my husband enjoys painting and drawing. Hes really talented and I love encouraging him, so gift wise I love buying him want he needs, but then my shopping habits come into play because I also think its part of my love language, I had the habit of going over board with the amount of supplies, such as A LOT of different size canvases, different paint brushes, copic markers, etc, so a cozy craft room is in the works to organize his supplies and give me a space to read (I wish I was artistic like him) haha I unintentionally create art clutter on his behalf. So watching your videos definitely helps me to remind myself to be more mindful with my purchases and make sure to not give into my old shopping habits (in the disguise of gift giving)

What bleach alternative do you use? Also, I have started an outfit idea spreadsheet to help me utilize what I have. It also helps me to identify what I gravitate towards. When I see outfits I like on Pinterest, for example, I look at what I already have that I can use to create the outfit. It’s helping me identify my style, too!
