In 2006, Ford used the rights to the iconic logo as well as other assets as collateral for financing a turnaround. The gamble paid off and the company regained use of the blue oval last year. Ford is also now enjoying good financial ratings and reviews. It was also the only U.S. automaker to make it through the financial crisis without filing for bankruptcy and taking a government bailout. This year the company’s stock is up 32 percent.

I am a huge Ford fan. The mustang has basically set the pace for all pony cars, and has been in production since April 17 1964. Chevy and dodge can brag all day long about there cookie cutter cars (with the exception of the new challenger) but what is boils down to is no one can make a small block better than ford. For example take the 5.0liter 302 cubic inch v8. Or step it up a Little to the 351 which powered the svt lighting f150 to the fastest street truck in the world for many years. Chevy gave up on the SS silverado and dodge cheated by putting the viper engine in their truck. In closing there is good and bad in every car made but ford is and always be my first choice. I do love the 95 mustang in my front yard.

Look at the Chevy fanboys crying. This was the best camaro Chevy had at the time and this was the best Mustang Ford had at the time.The GT500 spanked the Camaro and the new GT500 even spanks the new Camaros even harder. The ZL1 and the new GT500 are around the same price, but the Shelby still dominates. The GT500 spanks the other muscle cars so easily (Chargers, Camaros, Challengers, etc) that it is often compared to the American supercars like the Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Viper. You don't see any other muscle car getting compared to the American supercars, because they suck compared to the GT500.

stats for you...6.4 hemi srt8 485hp,,,camaro ss 426hp, Camaro zl1 585hp..idk how you're comparing a 662 hp car to these lower hp car and are happy about it...the Shelby is only almost compared to straight line performance as the zr1 and the viper...but it's nowhere even close to them...with horrible suspension the zr1, zl1, use the magnetic control suspension, as so does Ferrari uses the same by gm, no carbon ceramic brakes, no carbon fiber, not as good of aerodynamics, tires...that's why it's so cheap and compared to prices of cheaper cars...but if it had all that it would probably be almost as expensive

@ExplitPlayer11 жыл бұрын
God. This is the STUPIDEST comparisons on the internet. Why the hell do you put a heavy naturally aspirated V8 against a supercharged V8 with plenty more performance mods? Wjy would you compair a 34k$ car to a 65k$ car? Its so stupid and the only reason they did this is because they wanted views. Pathetic. Hope Ford fanboys are happy about a unfair comparison.
@cobramanphil11 жыл бұрын
The Shelby in this video does not cost $65K. It has always been mustang versus Camaro. At the time of this video these two models were the best they had at the time so they had to compare them. Jump forward to '13 and the Shelby does the same thing to the ZL1 (perhaps even worse as the Shelby has traction control now and about 100+more hp). Cost is irrelevant, but I do believe the ZL1 and the current Shelby cost about the same.

You guys are so fucking ignorant, slap a 8k$ supercharger on a SS and you have your POS ford staring at my tailights. AND for about 5k cheaper all In all. Ha, basically all that shit company Shelby did was get a already shitty car, and slap a supercharger on it, and boost it out its ass. SUCH A STRATEGY. And this is over.
@cobramanphil11 жыл бұрын
ExplitPlayer You can modify ANY car and make it faster. That does not make the modded car better though if you compare it versus a stock and unmodified car. You can get a current Shelby add about $1K in mods and it is beating up ZR1s/Vipers with ease and yes..if you want to talk prices..the every so slightly modded Shelby can be had for over $50K cheaper than those two other cars. The new Shelby is not a shitty car. Saying that is just ignorant. It has a new motor, new suspension, different supercharger...there is very little carry over from the '12 model to the '13 models. If it were such a shitty car why is it beating up the ZL1, and hanging with a ZR1 which is double the price of the Shelby? To do that is must be pretty half decent (and yes I like the ZL1 and Vette).

Not sure why the comment got removed CobraMan, but you are technically correct. While the supercharger may not be supplying boost (compressed air) to the engine at all times, it is still however always creating that boost though. Yes, the compressed air is just sent through the S/C again but it is being created and circulated by the supercharger drawing power from the engine turning.

Jav Hussein Are you talking about a 13/14 Shelby vs a ZL1? The Shelby is on average .5-.6 of a seconds quicker in the quarter mile. Trap speeds are 126-128mph vs 116-118mph in the ZL1. That equates to about 5-8 car lengths in the quarter mile (both on stock tires). That is called getting smoked: ). Then again if you took both stock cars to an endurance test on the track the camaro might do better since it has more aggressive pads. Then again..not sure why would anyone do that since these are street cars: ). ZL1...still nice car though..it is just outgunned by the Shelby.

If you think this one race is representative of how these cars will actually perform in real life I would have to say you need to be a little bit more open minded. This same publication got a 12.2 out of the this Shelby and a 12.8 out of the Camaro SS. That is .6 of a second difference. That might not seem like much, but .5 slower is about 5 car lengths in the quarter and that is also called getting SMOKED. Chevy has always has the hp and engine size advantage..this is actually the first time I heard someone complaining that it took a lot of hp to beat the other (come on now that is funny..stop worrying about the stangs hp and start worrying about the camaro's weight then you will see a lot more improvements:). Both nice cars..just one is faster than the other which is no big deal.
@stevenwilliams401810 жыл бұрын

I don't understand the point of arguing over this video, obviously the mustang was going to win. It wasn't a fair comparison. You can also say that about any racing video. No mustang or camaro will ever be an exact fairness. From 2010 up its (2013-2014 gt500) (2011-2012 gt500) (2012 2013 zl1) (2010 gt500) (2012-2013 boss 302) 2014 z28 somewhere in this area (2011-2014 5.0) (2010-2014 camaro SS) (2010 mustang gt) (2011-2014 3.7 mustang) (2010-2014 camaro rs) (2010) mustang 4.0 That is fastest to slowest in a straight line. No need to argue over what should win because what should win will win. Strange that when I am cruising around town my '13 my boost gauge is not registering any vacuum when the engine is not under load...The same went for my '95 with a T-trim..when the motor is not under load no boost registers...not sure if you are aware dynos are measured under engine load. RPM is of course constant, but load on the motor is not. So unless there is load on the motor (regardless of RPM for example) boost or -vac is not going to be present.

I'm from Northern CA (SF Bay). I am not sure what kind of tires the older Shelbys had, but mine ('13 GT%00) came with goodyear F1 tires. They are horrible when cold, but very grippy when warmed up. They are sort of like track day tires that are legal for street.

Either way, I think we both agree the V6 Maro and V8 Mustang were closer than the V8's of both back before the 5.0. The SHO Taurus (mid '90's) was what taught me and a lot of others not to put much into displacement or cylinders. Those SHO's were faster than any Mustang or Camaro around stock for stock. 'That's aftermarket. I guess I can give this as an example. While I am going around 70mph in my '13 Shelby in 6th gear (probably running low load with no boost at around 1400rpm will the car be emitting excess emissions if it did not have a stock supercharger installed? Dynos are all about high load through the rpm (rpm is irrelevant if there is no load to demand more fuel from a motor).
@cobramanphil11 жыл бұрын
No problem. Actually I am probably not 100% correct. In an aircraft application, superchargers probably do sustain boost at all times (they probably don't use bypasses or BOVs) simply for the fact that the engine needs to be under load at all times (not like a car). Anyway..thanks for your thoughts...

The air needs to be cool, an Internal Combustion Engine will produce 5% more power on a 60 degree day, and the air needs to be dry, the humidity needs to be low. An engine will produce less power as humidity goes up. Then as you mentioned Altitude, track surface, etc.

The camaro (im comparing the gt500 to the zl1) has independent rear suspension a motor that has a plethora of aftermarket parts for it and probably a bit more track oriented

No problem. I understand. I guess if you are not there to see it one cannot automatically assume that it really happened unless there was some video proof of it. E. Smith is a great hotshoe, but you have to remember he can only be as good as the track he is at. Just from what I've seen the average driver at the average track pulls a 11.6 in a Shelby. Perhaps at a better track you can see possibly 11.4s. It just depends on the condition (elevation is a big determining factor as well).
@Drivermod_Josh11 жыл бұрын
1) the ZL1 comes basically fully loaded base. All you really do need is the navigation which is only 800$. 2) You probably only call it a crapmaro because it's currently the fastest Stock car under 40k. 3) when you see a base shelby gt500 2013/2014. All you're getting is the engine, manual, Seats and the car. You're getting a barebones car. If ford would have pulled a chevy and made the GT500 basically come fully loaded, it'll start in the mid 60, and end up in the 70s. like it still is.

Probably because a current 13-14 GT500 would even pull more versus this old GT500 vs SS drag race. I believe the current Shelbys are probably a second quicker than the older Shelbys in the quarter mile (guessing old is like 12.2-3..new ones are like 11.2-11.6).

Yessir. Beast of a car....made a lot of Mustang and Camaro guys upset. The only problem I had was the typical cam failure (with the 3.4L V8) that resulted in destroyed pistons and valves, which was a pain thanks to DOHC. That was the same failure that Ford issued the Loctite TSB for lol...like Loctite was going to actually secure the cams to the to sprockets.

Read my previous post to Bulldawg..supercharged motors are not always under boost. To make an accurate comparison one would have to have the exact same motor. Plus if the supercharger is not boosting the motor why would there be more emissions content?
@TheBulldawg4life11 жыл бұрын
I didn't get to include something else in my post. The weight difference is roughly 200 pounds not 400 pounds. Where they both 6 speed manuals? What options were added to both? Base to base, it's all driver. Top level to top level its the Camaro. The GT is basically one speed with every model (for 1/4 mile at least), where the SS (with 1LE Track Package option) is known to run considerably faster than a standard SS (both straight and turns).

Chevy has gotten 638 hp out of a 6.2. They've also gotten 580 hp, and 556 hp out of the same 6.2L block. Also, CNC the LS3 heads, alter the rotating assemble, improve the intake, and bump up the tune like what is done to the Boss you'll see the LS3 with stupidly high numbers.

Yes. Of course. In an imaginary basic design there would be no MPG improvement, but to satisfy the buyer who wants that power of a muscle or sport car it would be perfect. At lower rpm (idle, cruising through town on a street, or highway) emissions would be low thus satisfying and allowing the car/truck to only output low emissions (satisfies the gov), but at WOT where the turbo or supercharger is engaged more hp/tq can be had. Cars are not measured at WOT as far as emissions regs go.

Why not the ZL1 vs the GT500?
@cobramanphil11 жыл бұрын
If you run dynos then you should know that the flood gates of emissions from a supercharger is not created unless the supercharger actually compresses more air than natural, correct? That would happen under load (eec's of Shelby is load based) and cruising around town in non-boost situations does not emit more emissions than the motor normally would. The only thing I can think of where it would if the tuner did not know how to tune for low end and just flooded the fuel tables starting at idle.

Kyle Justin butthurt? Just a weird match up considering the SS competes with the GT, not a 55k gt500. Also, a LS3 can match that blown ford v8 power with a cam and CNC heads.

SANIC well the main story is this.. they pit the 2010 ss vs 2010 GT 426hp vs 315 the result ford fans cried foul and they want motortrend to pit the ss against the GT500 yes we all know its a top tier mustang but the fact is the ss at that time was also the top tier camaro so thats why they made this race its not about being stupid

You mean at the track (stock cars)? I was mostly seeing mid 13s for those years at the track for the mustang gt. I've seen V6 camaros, but they were mostly in the upper 14's (not sure even if they were modded or not). I guess if there is a real good driver they could be in the mid /low 14's...

Well..my mistake about the same trap speeds. There is a variance of about 3-4mph. I've seen plenty of them already do 11.5s and below so I am not sure what the dispute is about. Different tracks different results. It is almost like that one glory run of a ZL1 doing 11.7..then at the tracks in my area (CA) ZL1s cannot even break the 12 second barrier while GT500s are doing mid 11's (11.6 runs) side by side with the ZL1's.

MSRP for a 2010 ZR1 was $103,000. I know because it's readily available information and not some kid screaming "I saw it!!" I'd take the $103k ZR1 over a $350k GT every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Vastly more performance for less than 1/3 the price. Yes, please, and thank you.

13.1 for a car design that is 20 years old is absolutely astonishing. What's a 20 year old Ford ANYTHING run that is better than that? Even still the Supra is a fast car, and I promise you a stock SS or 5.0 doesn't want to get in that fight without being a GREAT driver.

To the people complaining that it's an unfair race, no one is saying that it was supposed to be fair. Even the commentator said in the beginning that it is not and they are doing it because it is what the viewers asked for. As for everyone else fighting for Team Ford vs Team Chevrolet. Why are you guys so attached to each company? Did they pay for your schooling or something? Why can't you like both cars?
@cobramanphil10 жыл бұрын
I like both cars, but I am not understanding why people have a problem with the GT500 beating the camaro..its like no big deal, really.

Ford knows more than 90% of the Shelby and Boss Mustang's built will be Garage Queens, but they're still going to build them and they're still going to sell them. 2014 Roush Stage 3 with the optional 5.0L Aluminator engine with the Phase 3 package is advertised to be 675hp but on the dyno produces 688bhp, and the car is 250 lbs lighter than the GT500 and has 3.73 gears instead of the 3.31s.

I would know enough to know what a pony car is. My father was already drag racing up and down the midwest and west coast in the '60's. Ford and GM both had drag cars, the Torino and Chevelle...they were called muscle cars because they had huge weight, huge engines, and heavy duty transimissions. Ford and GM had track cars, the Mustang and Camaro...they were called pony cars because they were lighter, had smaller engines, and heavy duty transmissions. Check out SCCA racing, there were no Torinos
@cobramanphil11 жыл бұрын
I see what you are saying, but there is another part of the equation you are missing. Gone are days where manufacturers had to depend on mechanical fuel metering (i.e. FMU controlled by vacuum). Now everything is in a tune where large injectors can be metered down or even in some cases a secondary set of injectors are only utilized when needed (i.e. WOT). What this translates to is that excess fuel/emissions will not have to be used when in normal not WOT street driving.

MT chose to do the SS vs GT500. A Boss 302 would smoke an SS. It came close to beating the Super Charged ZL1. Which is what the ZL1 was made for. A Supercharged 580hp Camaro vs a N/A 444hp Mustang.
@TheBulldawg4life11 жыл бұрын
What does displacement have to do with traction? The weight difference is nil, in fact the GT500 weighs more than the SS. The simple fact is the more powerful car, with the "drag racing" rear suspension wheel hopped and spun while the SS ran out in front of it. It took the back half of the track for the GT500 to gain any ground, on the less powerful SS that was beating it.
