So happy to see you again. Many years ago I too found the difficulty in starting apottery business. As a business owner please take a tip from me. Remember to delegate your work load to your employees. Doing pottery is a joy as long as you gave the time. I found myself not enjoying the artistry when I was so busy. No matter what make sure you set aside some of your tasks to do your artistry. If that means hiring more people and letting go to trust them, do that. The 10 years I was in business was amazing and draining because I wanted all the control for everything. Being designed in business is difficult. I have faith in you and I am happy for all your success. Your friend in the USA.

That has actually been the mission for me, to let go of tasks and trust and faith they will be done with the same passion and dedication. It’s taken some time but I’ve found some lovely locals who have the same level of perfectionism as I do. But also a dedication and love for this! It’s been part of the reason I’ve felt so inspired lately to come back! Knowing they are essentially a copy of me in the studio has been the break I’ve needed to come back to KZbin!

(Also, I just got back from three weeks in Australia - visiting family, mostly, tho we did a sneaky just the two of us trip to see the Reef before all the family stuff began - and we tried SO hard to work in a trip to Ballarat, but Victoria just wasn’t in the cards this time around, since we were there (and in Ballarat!) the last trip. So I absolutely will be there in 2026, and cannot wait to watch and see what the Pottage grows into in the meantime!)

Confession - I needed to watch this twice because the first time, I was madly looking out for my quokka mug! But yes, there's two ways a new project can become a problem. One is obviously failure, and I'm glad that didn't happen, but the second is by becoming popular like this and taking up all your time! So glad you're taking time for yourself. Now, I think I need to make a booking for the Pottage some time in September, to do things for the family for Christmas 🙂

As a person who went to art school over a decade ago now (for painting, not ceramics) and now works at a boring dead-end job it's wild to me that you've built a whole business where you can have several employees.
