If you can't get Battlestar Galactica, and you don't mind it being a non-IP theme, Dark Moon (and its essential expansion Shadow Corporation) is shorter and plays just like BSG, and both Dark Moon and Shadow Corporation are available on Amazon. Honestly I feel that with its expansion Dark Moon blows BSG out of the water.

I cried when I saw Battlestar Galactica. I came into the hobby too late, and as you said, it's now out of print and I'm not ready to mortgage the house to buy a copy. But I live with the dream that one day, whoever owns the rights to the board game will come to their senses and do a Kickstarter campaign with a new expansion where you can get a pledge level as an all in and pickup the lot. Only then I will be ready for the good Lord to take me home as my life will be complete having owned and played it.

I've been playing boardgames as a hobby for two decades and just found this channel. What I find fascinating in this Top 10, is that he really doesn't care about how old or new games are. A lot of players, and that includes me, are drawn to the "new" things and here he comes, putting Tigris and Euphrates in his Top10 but at the same time he doesn't seem snobby/hipsterish about it all and has new games on the List as well. There are many kinds of gamers and there is no right or wrong way, but I do admire how he doesn't care at all if a game has gotten dusty or has been iterated on by other games or isn't a looker.

I'm so delighted to see you add Takenoko to the Top Ten! I adore it too. So much fun and laughter while playing it. A lot of reviewers dismiss it, so I always like to see it get the love I feel it deserves. I've been lucky enough to play the giant Collectors Edition at a convention, and it's gorgeous! I completely agree with you on BSG too. I bought the core game the week it launched in Ireland and played it TEN times in the first seven days. It became my most played game quickly and probably still stands at the top. I have tons and tons of hilarious stories associated with it. I too have all the expansions. You should google "Dynamic BSG Rulebook" for an incredible resource that makes adding expansion modules a breeze. I'd leave a link, but KZbin doesn't like links in comments. Finally, if you click through to my channel, I have my own to ten list I did a while back. Nothing professional, just for fun.

For Dominion Expansions, I'd recommend Dark Ages, Empires, Adventures or Renaissance if you want something that has some significant changes. Renaissance is quite easy going, not too many big changes, Dark Ages has a lot of interesting things in it and Empires and Adventures do some interesting/weird things too. You should also play Seaside if you haven't already, if you've not seen Duration cards then you're going to love that

BSG is one of my most played games. It is definitely the one that has the most wear and tear (good thing I have card sleeves!). It's also the only game that I don't mind that the cards have screen grabs, because the cards refer to actual plot elements from the show. Sadly, I haven't had a chance to play it in at least a couple of years. I miss it.

Haha no surprise BSG is your #1 (same for me)! 2 Recommendations related to y’all’s love for Dominion and card games(i have a similar love for card games and dominion and both of these are in my top 20): Puzzle Strike 3rd Edition -dominion(deck-builder) but instead of cards there are poker chips which are your move-list to your character specific fighter going head-to-head in a gem-powered battle Tetris to see who can deliver the unholiest smack down. It's sweaty, exciting, and quick, and the forced-buy rule (where you _must_ buy a new chip every turn) really keeps the pressure on - none of this "buy two chips then sit on your haunches" crap. Codex: Card-time-strategy(my number #3 game all-time) -(basically Warcraft/starcraft the card game) My love for Android Netrunner, Magic, and Yugioh is great but THIS game blew those out of the water for me personally. "Players each control three different heroes and have access to a tech tree that allows them to use different strategies each time they play. The goal of the game is to destroy the opponent's base. To do this, players build up an army of units and heroes. Players determine the exact composition of their armies as they play by adding cards to their deck based on the tech they've chosen to pursue." Beware, though this game really is fairly easy to learn it has a LOT depth to it making it VERY hard to play with newcomers. Both by same designer David Sirlin(which many don’t like as a person but he’s made some of the best board games that resonate with me out the near thousand that I have played and they are built for endless replayability, well balanced gameplay, and incredible depth) Having watched nearly all your vids and realizing just how similar our tastes are I highly recommend giving these games a chance.

The randomnesses of combat is brutal in Chaos in the old world ... One of my friends in my gaming group had such but luck playing this game several years ago ... He kept rerolling and failing every single time even with the maxed amount of dice ... it was unbelievable and funny at the same time, but sadly out of frustration he resigned and promised never ever again to play this game again nor any other with dice combat ... and The chaos in the old world is a literally the reason why we now avoid any games with dice combat system unless dice are only used as a modifier to change outcome a little!

There's typically tons of player interaction in CIV: First off the military victory possibility just makes everything exciting on the map. Then there's competing for barbarian/relic/hut objectives on the map. But there's also tons of trading that can happen, and cards that provide bonuses to an ally as well! We've found that its pretty difficult to actually win without politicking in some way, because by using alliances you'll have access to a lot more resources. The Wisdom and Warfare one is crucial, but while you're at it, if you just pick up the other expansion you'll have access to all the races, and that just feels great :)

I think i am resigned to the fact that I’ll never play TI4. Mainly, I don’t have a game group and friends aren’t gamers. It’s usually just me and gf.

Liked your video and respect for toplisting 3 of my favs--sgs--dominion--and takenoko. I will definately give civ and last word a try they look so fun. One thing is dominion gets exponentially more fun and difficult with each expansion and there are like 12 of them..and also there's an online version that's very cheap to play check it out if anyones interested dominion.games/

Also does anybody have experience with those? I remember playing the Pegasus Expansion once and it was *weird*

its screaming my name to be let out and be on camera! The Exodus expansion is the best. Over the years I've fine tuned what exactly to use from each module so that you don't get weird situations with the funky new caprica part in Pegasus.

@@Shelfside Thanks for the info! I really wonder if I ever get my hands on the other expansions - or at least the exodus expansion! Fingers crossed!

o god i hate dominion even more, so much more. there are so many many good and great deck builders out there. not dominion tho. it wins most bland game of all time, in the history of man.
