SHELL CORDOVAN CARE WITH PURE POLISH

I need to try Pure Polish on my merriam horse viberg 2030s. I agree on the multiple thin coats and allow the polish time to dry before buffing. Glad you did not fast-forward. Nice job.

I wanted to offer a different perspective on the deer bone in relation to water spots. My understanding is that water penetrate the shell membrane and expands the fiber a little bit. VSC and shoe bone allow you to recompress the membrane fibers.

That’s a different perspective. I never thought of the membrane as being water permeable. It makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

Great Video again mate! Quick question.. Did you have any hazing after you walked in them?

No. You have to activate the water resistant cream by brushing them with a few drops of water. Seems to prevent that.

After 2 year's. What's your preferred cream for conditioning? Coloring for cordovan? Have you tried Burgol or Bootblack? You mentioned VSC in the video. Do you still use VSC for your shell? I use pure polish wax occasionally on my shell, but I still prefer MDO. What's your current go to for shell treatment?

I use pure polish colored water resistant cream for shell. I like it better than using conditioner and then some pigment. I will still use Saphir when it’s new or if the bloom is “off” to me. If I notice something off… like I received a pair that had some marks from shipping and I use a bone or ebony to repair I get back to VSC. Maybe once a year I like to use colonil conditioner round out the nutrient bath. I’ve tried Carmina and Burghol and am not a fan. Seems to be the same makeup as AE cordovan cream. Higher pigment but harder to work with. So why so much? I’m crazy. If I only had one I’d probably stick with Saphir neutral. Some shell is very thirsty and you can’t nurture that shell (it’s more about the specific pair than the tannery. I’ve had some from a tannery that’s thirsty and another pair that blooms like crazy) with pure polish wrc the same. But for 90% of my treatment it wrc is my go to because the effect on the shoe at the end on a days wear is better. I’ve had shell for 20 years now. It’s been quite the journey and the last two have really been as above.

Thanks for sharing. Please do let us know if the hard wax crack upon wearing. I'd stick with Saphir Cordovan cream for that reason.

Just to clarify, the water resistant cream has very little hard wax in it - almost none. It's almost all soft waxes and conditioning creams.

You should also know that those shell fans who do polish with hard wax don’t have a problem with cracking and the wax the whole shoe instead of just the toe and heel. Cracking has never happened to me. Probably because shell bends differently, but this purepolish is really different and is more like conditioner.
