I'm a big fan of shell stitch patterns for crochet, how about you?
@kristinradams71092 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. This is one of my all time favorites :) I have a question regarding a pattern I once found, which was a shell stitch triangular shawl. I haven't been able to find it, but it was so cool! You start with the long end, and then decrease the shells in each row after that until you finally get down to the small tip of the shawl. Do you know of a way to duplicate this? Or, have you ever seen this pattern? Thanks! This is one pattern that got away from me that I miss the most. I liked it so much because each row got smaller and smaller and felt very satisfying in a way that I haven't seen in other patterns. Cheers :)
@mwelch95552 жыл бұрын
I still have the first shawl I made and it was a triangular shaped shell stitch pattern. I wish I had that pattern, too. I could be wrong but I think it was on the back of the yarn package. It was my grandmother and aunt's pattern and they helped me with it❤️ (I was about 8 yrs old... guessing it was 1973 or 74 if that helps on locating pattern)
@kristinradams71092 жыл бұрын
@@mwelch9555 I will definitely try looking for this in the more vintage patterns. I actually found this pattern online years ago, and i can't find it again to save my life. This one was SO easy! I love this one because you start with the longest side of the triangle, and work your way down to the final tip on the last row. When each row gets smaller, it just goes so fast. I will search for it until I find it, because it's driving me nuts Lol!
@naztazia2 жыл бұрын
@@kristinradams7109 That would be called a "top down shawl." There are a decent number of patterns out there for them, but not a ton. For what it's worth, from a designing perspective, it's easier to accommodate more sizes for an audience (XS through 4X) by starting at the bottom point of a triangle shawl and just add more rows. XS might have 50 rows while a 4X might have 65 rows. With top down shawls, as a designer, you have to account for all the different possible widths with the initial chain.

@@naztazia Thank you so much! I appreciate your insight. That makes a lot of sense in terms of sizing. I love your videos. You're an awesome teacher, and I appreciate your response so much :)

I absolutely love this pattern! And I also love how you don't explain how to do every stitch as you do it. There is a time and a place for that but I have been crocheting for 50 years and I know exactly how to do the stitches and I just want to get to learning a pattern. Thanks for such a beautiful one today! 🌻

Ugh, thank you so much for not treating your audience like babies! I understand that some are beginners but these kind of tutorial doesn't need gradual and too much explanation --- as they should make advanced stitch/project if they are already knowledgeable of the basic stitches and abbreviation in crocheting.

KZbin also has a "slow down" setting too if needed - click on the gear icon, and set playback speed to .5 or .25.
@Kayla_Kimbrell Жыл бұрын
@@naztazia I didn't even think about KZbin giving play speed options. Thank you for the advice, I will definitely try that!
@Kayla_Kimbrell Жыл бұрын
Slowing it down is helping tremendously! Specially now that you can zoom in on KZbin videos. I'm able to see what I couldn't see as well before. I am however thinking about starting over to loosen my starting chain a bit and to swap colors from turquoise and cream in my second row like you did to help me distinguish what I'm doing better. So far so good though. I'm super excited to be creating a shell pattern! Aside from basic stitches I've only learned the V stitch prior to the shell. 🙂
