According to the spec sheet the unit consume less than 1W in standy, so installing 30 devices would add 30W standby thus 21,6kWh per month or 260kWh per year which costs about 75 eur per year. Something to take into account if you want to build it for the whole house.

I enjoy watching your videos, they've been very very useful for me. I want to point out that the 3-way switch diagram you proposed is quite dangerous, if you have 3-phase mains, you need to make sure you are feeding (L) and (SW) lines from the same phase, otherwise you will blowup your Shelly, The (I) line should be isolated from the rest of the circuit but it's safer to connect it to same phase too. I didn't expect to find two wires from different phases in the same room, but I did and they were in an outlet and light switch in the same box. I think you should add a warning to the video between 7:00 and 8:30.
@TheHookUp5 жыл бұрын
Working with mains should always be done cautiously. In the US putting different phases in the same box has been a code violation for as long as I can remember.
@nicholaihel22493 жыл бұрын
One additional concern regarding the 3-way wiring approach you show. Even if the two circuits in the box are on the same phase (which you say is a code requirement), "stealing" the power from the other circuit does increase the load on that circuit. Both lights will be taking their power from the one circuit, the one with the always-on L in the box, since the runner no longer supplies the power for the 3-way light. This will probably not cause problems in the vast majority of cases, but seems undesirable.

Great minds think alike, re: 3-way switch. Also, looks as if I have to retain the existing toggle switches to do this (WAF) so I'll only be installing on 3-way circuits. We're still stuck on up=on for single switch circuits. I'd already jumped on the restock of the 2pk, but next order I'll try to remember your affiliate links. I still need to get a multi-sensor together for outside temp & %RH. Haven't figured out the best place to install yet.

It's not related to any electrical code, just convenience. Outlets are often have a wire going to the switch box and you generally want outlets to always be live. You use a lot less wire if you don't have to take the outlet circuit back to the panel. (unless it's a dedicated circuit of course)

Only now my new house is getting ready to install smart stuff and I started with tasmotized shellies. I have a question for a 3-way switch with a shelly 1 with tasmota. Do I need any special setting for it to work (in shelly fw, yoou have to set it to edge switch)? It either doesn't switch the lamp or it takes some seconds till it does, it appears random to me. If I toggle throught the web interface, it's instantaneous, regardless of the physical switches position. Thanks for the videos!

Noob question: Would a Shelly 2 sitting behind a switch box with switches for two lights enable you to toggle both lights independently, both via the physical switch, and via Home Assistant? In other words, so whether the physical switch is up or down, an HA-issued "turn on" would turn it on, "turn off" turn it off, and flipping the physical switch toggles whatever state HA has put the light in. I assume that a setup something like that is a typical base want for home automators anywhere, and that making it feel and behave well would be a great subject for another Shelly 2 video. I would not be surprised if it actually takes some Node Red state flow hackery to make sure actual behaviour not have unpleasant counter-intuitive gotchas.

What you have described is the factory experience. No complicated node red magic. Just install the switch and select "edge switch" as the switch type in the shelly app.

Is there any way to find out who or where these MQTT messages are coming from. Thanks

So the garage itself isn't opening, it's just telling you it's open via the sensor, correct? Sounds like your reed switch is either going bad or it's too far away from the magnet when it's in closed state.
@budschultz55446 жыл бұрын
The door is going up and down which means that someone is sending it an mqtt message to activate the relay. The read switch is located about 15` from the d1 and is hooked to the 3v and ground. It looks like the switch is indicating correctly when the door is up or down. From what I have seen thus fare it looks like the code is publishing the state topic as I can't find any code anywhere in my config that would do that. When you click the up or down arrow from the front end it sends a button topic not a state topic. baffling like so many things in hassio. Thanks.

just got my shelly2's from amazon and special ordered those jumpers and they DON'T fit at all..... :(
@TheHookUp6 жыл бұрын
Do they look like the ones pictured (With the round plastic bits) or did they send you DuPont connectors?
@DaveGee20106 жыл бұрын
@@TheHookUp They do look 'mostly' like the Amazon product pic... but they aren't EXACTLY like the ones in your video but then again the one you linked to at amazon doesn't LOOK like the ones that are seen in the video @ 5:23 the one in the video has solid black plastic tips.. and the ones you linked to for use to buy @ amazon have a 'black tape' around the tip. Anway the one I got from Amazon looks exactly like the linked amazon product. (if that makes any sense).

I am using the stock firmware on shelly1 with MQTT how do i get it as a light in HA not a switch>?
@TheHookUp4 жыл бұрын
mqtt lights and switches are the same other than advanced options like dimmer and color. Just put it under light: and not switch: in your config file.

For anyone watching this video in 2020, I was using the iOS app and it seems to be missing the advanced option to enable MQTT. If you go to the ip address of the shelly, it shows up.
@TheHookUp4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that option is only available via the web UI.

Why is it requiring neutral wiring unfortunate? Don’t get it.
@TheHookUp6 жыл бұрын
Because many people don't have a neutral in the switch box and therefore can't easily install the shelly.

Rob, a question for the Aussie and NZ Shelly owners. This is an atypical setup of how we wire in Australia. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYSkZmt9fpycp6c I attempted to make a 3-way switch today but just can't get my head around the last step. 1. I can get power to the Shelly 2. I can remotely turn the Lights on and off 3. But I cannot get the switch to activate the lights or send signals to the shelly. Seeing if you have any suggestions.

If you're interested in writing them, I'll add them to the video. I don't have any Brazilian or Portuguese friends though.
