I love those guys in Shelly. They are the only ones I would consider to use without flashing the Tasmota.

Oh I didn’t knew it had 2 switches! Now *that* is interesting for me because my kitchen does not have an L line and it must handle 2 set of lights... one of them are 6 GU10 LED’s so I’m hoping for more then 20w consumption there. Thanks for the great explanation!

Bypass isn't a big deal so the worse case scenario you will have to add one

Great video again! one thing you didn't mention much (but is a killer feature of the shelly dimmer) is the ability to read the state of two physical switches. You can then use a second physical wall switch to control any smart device (e.g curtains, lamps, LED strips, or lights in another part of the room)
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
Oh - that's a good point. I will add this to the article
@AP05TLE3 жыл бұрын
In case it is useful, here is the mqtt info to sense the state of the second switch (at least for a Shelly dimmer in HA) binary_sensor: - platform: mqtt name: "test dimmer" state_topic: "shellies/shellydimmer-/input/1" payload_on: "1" payload_off: "0"

These are really interesting. A lot of companies bringing out no neutral now. It will be good when they get proper power monitoring in with these as well as the only product I know that is no neutral with proper power monitoring is a Z-Wave device by Aeotec and that is ridiculously expensive. Thanks for showing this off.
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
For lights this monitoring isn't bad as there is no dimming. It should be pretty accurate.
@EsotericArctos3 жыл бұрын
@@notenoughtech Yes, it is better than nothing . I can just be a little pedantic at times :) I am sure it wouldnt be hard to add a power monitor to these no neutral devices.
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
I reckon it isn't hard... Just expensive. ;) But that's my bet. I like the price range of Shelly 1L it's more appealing

Hi, another great video. A question. When using the bypass device, does it buzz at all? I've looked at a number of 'no neutral' switches along with different capacitor options. So far, not one has worked without a noticeable buzz from the capacitor. As a result I've never actually installed a 'no neutral' switch because the buzz from all the combinations would just be too loud.

Silent completely silent

Hi, have you tried installing them in the wall next to AC cables? In my experience with shelli dimmer without neutral, it worked fine without neutral on a bench, but then inside the wall it didn't. Maybe effects from induction?

@@notenoughtech i think what happened was that I'm trying to wire up a ceiling fan and it's tripping the relay in the shelly. is this likely?
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
@@reesericdotci the limit is 5A. I'm not sure what your fan draws but inductive current usually is magnitude higher than resistive (lights) so I wouldn't recommend this unit for anything else than lights

I have yet to buy a Shelly device, but I still dont know which one.. I would like to control a dimmable light which has 2 switches. Does that matter at all with choosing the right Shelly? And I'm sorry if i've missed it, but what makes the 1L better than the others?
@notenoughtech3 жыл бұрын
There is a Shelly for dimming shelly.cloud/products/shelly-dimmer-2-smart-home-light-controller/ Which will do the dimming for you

So you know and mention that the user who watches your video for help does have to connect the Bypass at the lamp and not at the switch. Why would you not show a test build where you connected it that way to help your viewers?
@notenoughtech2 жыл бұрын
Bypass will depend on the lights used in your wiring. As the location of the cap is well illustrated in the manual attached to the switch I didn't think there is a need to show that part as it will be dependant on your individual installation

I probably missed something. Everybody is crazy about Shelly but I have stupid Chinese Zigbee switches that don't give me any of these restrictions or problems or limitations. Maybe I don't stumble upon these restrictions but it remsins weird that one should live with all these caveats...
