Bruh I love the story of this. A leader trying his best to not only lead his people to survival but also making them happy. He made hard choices which he knows will stick throughout the city forever. As he makes the choices his people become more and more angry with him but also happy. So at the end when he’s finally executed everyone is happy and the city thrives. But now he will go down in history as a villian.
@TheNapster1534 жыл бұрын
Personally, this seems to be a retelling of what happened in the “Serenity” Trailer for the game. Even if the laws were signed, they will never be made into effect because the leader died and with him so does the administration. The city will NEVER recover in time before the storm hits as they’ll be too busy looking out for themselves rather than what’s coming. The folks at Winterhome were probably lucky in that department.

@gantzllat4 жыл бұрын
This game has a way of meddling with your morals. Is easy, at the first stages, to stay on a moral path. Give education to the children, give more rations to hard workers, bury our dead and assure not only survival, but a humanitarian lifestyle. But then the true winter arrives. There's no food, the temperature goes lower from the stable -20 to -40 and -60 there's never enough coal to make it trough the night and every little piece of resource counts. Then, then after several failed attempts, your heart hardens. You begin to take harsher and harsher measures, you begin to work every citizen to the death and use them even after death. The city must survive.

This didn't happen to me on A New Home, which I got through on three tries (Died early first time, abandoned the second one midway because I knew the city wasn't going to make it due to several mistakes. Haven't tried the two higher difficulties though) but it did in Arks. When I played Arks at first I wanted to save both cities. But as the deadline was approaching I made the choice to simply abandon New Manchester to its fate without much of a thought. Still ended up missing my coal quota by a thousand. Second time, my mindset going in was simple. Get our supplies first and if we have anything to spare then maybe we'll try to help, or maybe we won't because that city may just be a lost cause. After all, sending them just two out of three shipments is just a waste, they'll die anyway. It just wastes our automatons. And I don't know if I'll have the coal for the last shipment. Currently I'm in that playthrough so we'll see how it goes.

yep, even in tesla city to obtain a continuous production of steam core you have to make a sacrifice, (even if it's 50/50 but whatever details), in a certain poetic sense, this game makes you understand that many can be the leader but few have souls and hearts of pitch, claws stained with blood and hoes that crush the flesh of those very few poor unfortunates, the game teaches this and I too have experienced it, that sometimes we must violate freedom and ethics to survive, but to admit that all that power and reward would be a monumental lie, everything and I stress EVERYTHING rests on your shoulders

Creates an interesting take on the other side of the coin. A lot of people would look at this story and think "Boo bad fascist man is an evil fascist" without realizing a lot of these people in history started out as simple folk willing to lead during hard times and make hard decisions so that their people would get to see the light of tomorrow even if it meant they would spit on their grave. Really freaking hard to survive hell without appeasing demons, let alone having a whole society do it.

I like that last scene. That smile that shows the weight of responsibility falling off his shoulders as he lets the next person take over, and use his execution as a moral boost so the city may continue. It's a smile that says "I've done what I can, I can move on and let the next in line take over". It's a smile that says "I don't blame you, do better than I could." @zelculothesquid82014 жыл бұрын
When things go poorly you can often improve them by signing a new law. More often than not, this is a deal with the devil type scenario. Need more workers? There’s a child labor law you can sign. Need more food? You can mix in sawdust. Don’t want to waste time on burials? Just dump the bodies in the snow. Still not enough food? Use the bodies for fertilizer. People mad that you’re using the bodies as fertilizer and putting the children to work? You can implement fascism or form a cult and have them executed. Still not enough food? Eventually you’ll be able to unlock cannibalism. Getting all of these in one save is entirely feasible even in the basic scenario and in one you start the game with child labor in place and no way to remove it. Many of the laws are completely moral, more so than the actual laws in England at the time, but those ones tend to have delayed benefits while the unethical alternatives provide immediate benefits. With careful planning you can manage to create a paradise, but on your first run you often end up making the choice between being able to keep living and being able to live with yourself.

I haven't played the game yet, but I didn't have any problem following the story, and the art is great. Only thing I can think of is that you have quite a lot of repeats of that shot of the Foreman standing on the balcony, but I guess the repetitiveness is part of the point (similar to how he keeps writing new rules), and it's just my opinion anyway. Really glad I found this: excellent visuals and songs to go with a badass song.

It could probably be a fun raw material for analysis. How many people understand the idea of priorities? How many people accept them? How many people are influenced by certain ideas, or stories about more violent worlds where only war remains. The idea seems to be described by Umberto - rights are sacred, life too, rights do not work without life, therefore life is sacred and therefore in a number of circumstances one can be violated in favor of the other. And it would seem at a temperature when in reality unprotected breathing would be deadly, and they could probably survive only by building a protective dome around the reactor and using everything they have for many, many layers of insulation. How many people in such a situation will find any measures obvious and the "simplified pseudo-rationalization" of the game frankly strange? Especially in the society of England in the 18th century, where a simple man from a factory had the approximate rights of sheep from a farm and probably less health care. ... and how many would it seem like that from this guy who is being executed on a reactor in a trailer? I like the idea of something in the spirit of, according to many, the wacky ending of one anime. That the hero of this story did the best he could - the worst that could be expected, and is happy to pay for it now, in front of living (for the most part) people. Let them have a celebration. The city needs to celebrate this, executions have always been great fun for the shit, and he did things for which he deserves this execution. He is ready to accept this deal as he has accepted many past ones - and this commands deep respect.
