I lost my sheltie Poppy last month. She was not even 7 years old. I live alone, so I miss her company and her love and faithfulness. Shelties are fantastic dogs.

Several years ago, I was asked to try and catch a Male Sheltie, who had been running wild in a community for 10 years. Everyone knew about him and would leave food out for him if they saw him, but no one was ever able to catch him. One morning, a lady was leaving on vacation and noticed him in her fenced in yard. She called my friend and told her that he was in her yard and she would close the gate on her way out. My friend called me and said she knew I had a way with animals and would I be interested in him. I was. This dog came from National Championship parents. Upon the death of one of the owners, all the dogs and puppies were sold. Joey, was left behind and learned to fend for himself. I met my friend at the woman’s house and saw Joey up on her porch. I asked everyone to stay in their cars. I walked up on the porch, talking softly to Joey and sat down on the steps, not looking at him but talking all kinds of soft nonsense. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, jump up onto a chair. I got up slowly, and walked up to him and picked him up and took him to my car, where my husband was waiting. This all happened in under 5 minutes. Everyone, including me was in shock! Lol. This dog was so dirty and matted with dirt and sticks. It took several shampoos and conditioners to get all the tangles out. I had Joey for 4 wonderful years. He was naturally house broke and would police up his sleeping are each morning, by shoveling loose hair into a pile with his nose. He had to learn how to walk on a leash and everything a tame dog learns. I never could get him to sleep in the bed with me, unless of course it was thundering. Th3n he would try to get under my skin. Lol. The night he died, I had taken him and our other dogs outside to do their thing. Joey tripped coming up the porch steps. He came in and went to his spot on the floor by my feet. A few minutes later, he jumped up into my lap, which he had never done without an invitation. I held him and kissed him and told him I loved him. He gave a sigh and died. I’m so glad I was able to give this dog who had lived such a tough life some comfort in his last years.

Same! She reminds me so much of our Tobi Jim. He went to Rainbow Bridge at almost 15 years of age 20 years ago...

@@irThumper Mine was 14 1/2 years old when she passed. Had her since she was 11 weeks old. I am sure you still miss your fur baby. They are always in our hearts! 💖🐶

Hello lovely Mommy and sweet little munchkins. We lost our Sheltie at 12 years old 2weeks ago. We feel he (Noah) will lead us to our next when it is time. 🥰🥹🥰

Awww! So so cute and proud mom. I have a miniature Sheltie service dog. So smart. Never had to teach her alerting. It was all natural. 🐾🐾🐶

I hope your 15 year old is in good health and still fairly active if you are wanting to bring a puppy in your home. When they start sleeping a lot you have to be careful to not startle them awake. And some dogs feel like they are being replaced so make sure you have lots of time to show/give your older dog, too. My 14 1/2 year old Sheltie passed away last year. She no longer liked a lot of activity around her but she was very social when she was younger 🐶😊💖

@@normamacdonald688 I think you are being really wise. I wish I had another dog when my dog was younger for her to grow up with but when she got old it would had been too much on her. That's great he is still doing good and still walking. Enjoy every day you have with him with lots of love and pats (which I am sure you are doing) as it is never easy to lose them no matter what age they are when they leave us.
