I don't think he meant it to be racist. Many times when people speak a language that is not their first language, the accent is comical. Plus seriously speaking English isn't really a race thing, it's a language thing. And as far as Hebrew goes, the original speakers of the language would probably find any of us speaking it funny. Since the language was considered a dead language til around the time of WW2.

Since Monday I've been really working on listening. I prayed for the Lord to help me listen. I have a hard time listening to others, I struggle with interrupting, and I often am thinking of a response in my head before they are finished talking. Most importantly I wanted guidance on how to listen to the Lord. I even wrote down Lord, teach me to LISTEN. It's now Sunday, I have been reading all week in my Bible about listening. It's 11:41 on Sunday night, and I just watched this video. So many lightbulbs are going off in my head! Thanks for this video. So awesome I watched this after a week of really working on listening.

I understand that Hebrew people do not say the name of God, but use "Hashem". As a believer in Christ Jesus, living under Grace, I can certainly say out loud, "YAWEY", but mostly God the Father is known as "ABBA" as Jesus called him, in the New Covenant. Thank you for reading this, just as an FYI of my belief as a Jesus follower... as I read your response as an orthodox Jew.
@katlyn27687 жыл бұрын
Shirley James A huge reason that Orthodox Jewish people don't say The Name of God is that, it's not "Yahwey." The way The Name is written in Hebrew, it is impossible to pronounce. In order to understand how this is exactly, you'd have to study ancient (Biblical) Hebrew. Or I can take out my Hebrew lessons book and explain it to you. So, no one really knows how to pronounce it, "Yahwey" is just a guess from English speakers (not all that accurate when reading Hebrew words). So, sure you can say "Yahwey" if you'd like, but who's name are you really saying? That said, pronouncing The Name is very offensive to the Jewish people, so if you're trying to get them to know Yeshua (Jesus), it won't be very helpful to do so. Yeshua/Jesus, by the way, never pronounced The Name of God, because he knew it would have been sin to do so. (What he did in Heaven, we can't know, but we know he followed the Jewish Law on Earth). (Love, a believer in Jesus, since we're stating that.)

The traditions of men make the word of no effect. (attempting because the TRUTH of the word is available to them who seek it.) It is insane to believe the Creator of Heaven & Earth will give HIS NAME, give scripture about the importance of the NAME, encourage the chosen to call on His Name; and then make it unable to be pronounced. The truth is the original & true Hebrews had a pronounce-able name. All of that culture mixing, man made doctrine caused the pronunciation to be missed. YAHUAH knows and can impart it again the way HE did the first time. He is the same.

What I LOVE about this video is it really clarifies Matthew 13:10-16: "And the disciples came and said to Him, 'Why do You speak to them in parables?' He answered and said to them, 'Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; For the hearts of this people have grown dull. ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with eyes and hear with ears, Lest they should understand with hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ But blessed your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous desired to see what you see, and did not see and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.' Funnily enough this video pops up on my page as I am busy with 1 Kings chapter 8 and the word "hear" appeared multiple times. It immediately reminded me of "Hear O Israel" as I did Deuteronomy not so long ago. I had no idea that "hear" was actually so deep. And that it is to listen carefully and obey. I read that the Lord delights more in obedience and not sacrifices not so long ago. And Deuteronomy says that God asks that we fear Him,walk in obedience to Him and love Him and serve Him. I have been struggling lately but I will try to not only hear,but listen carefully and follow. Thank you for this Bible Project . God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ.

Geovana Assis Yes I know that the Old Testament prophesies Jesus throughout. What I meant was the EVENTS are identical in all 3. Also Muslims don't believe in a different God. It's the same God only different beliefs when it comes to Jesus and Muslims then follow Muhammad. Judaism and Christianity is also identical in everything when it comes to believing in God in the Old Testament. Only difference is Old Testament was God focusing on the Jews and from Paul onward He focused on the gentiles. Also you do know that Christians also reject the Trinity right?

@@gloreeuhh- but it's a fact that you need to pull the door instead of pushing it While religion is manly a belief it's not necessarily the truth or a complete fact it's just a belief that is YOUR OWN truth and what you THINK is necessary, right or morally accurate.

Hi guys. can you do one on the word selah! big fans of God's work, we are from India!.

I think "Selah" is a Hebrew musical term, but I want to know what that word means, too! :D

I agree, the study of the word "Selah" would be awesome. What I have found says that it could refer to the pause that would be make in the song, be it for the instruments or the singer. But also, it means to pause and praise, to pause and calmly think about what was said before.

I have a suggestion for future videos... can you guys do a video where you go over the various words that are used for praising God in different ways (yadah, shabach, etc)? I would be very interested in knowing their significance.

Phenomenal segment about Shema. I am so thrilled to be a supporter of your God inspired work. Anybody who is hearing this teaching and others like it should seriously consider supporting the Bible Project financially - it is putting forth the Gospel to the world in a powerful and meaningful way.

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." --James 1:22 (ESV) One may easily think they love God if they have heard or know His Word. But this is merely self-deception if one is not acting upon (or truly "Shema") what they know. James says that this deception is like someone looking into a mirror and seeing exactly what the problem you have is, yet failing to do anything about it (failure to "Shema"). As 1 John would point out, we really do not love God or know Him intimately if we are not obeying ("Shema") His commandments. (Note: "...His commandments are not burdensome.") "And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother." --1 John 4:21 (ESV) What is love? ... See 1 Corinthians 13 for a good Biblical definition. Conclusion: We ought to love God by doing ("Shema") what He has said in loving our brothers and sisters in Christ and in keeping ("Shema") His commandments. "We love, because He first loved us." --1 John 4:19 (NASB)

@@obeyjesus1973 '1: No idols. 2: No graven images. 3: Do not take Lord's name in vain. 4: Remember and honor the Sabbath. 5: Honor your mother and father. 6: Do not commit murder. 7: Do not commit adultery. 8: Do not steal. 9: Do not falsely accuse someone. 10: Do not envy your neighbors house, wife, servants or anything that is your neighbors.' those are just the 10 commandments but there are more. They all are good and just but the main commandments are 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul." And ' Love thy neighbor as you love yourself.' God bless :-)

@@skibidi-pap1 Yeah like crosses and the crucifix and putting jesus before the Creator Thanking jesus for things done by our Father, sharing his praise, because our Father says, "His Glory He Will Not Share With Another" and forgetting the sabbath by going to worship on Sunday instead. Thanks for pointing those out :-) Have a great day and I hope you're safe during this plague. I mean pandemic.
