Shemekia Copeland has released ten albums and been presented with eight Blues Music Awards.
Copeland was born in Harlem, New York. She is the daughter of Texas blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland.
She began singing at an early age and her first public performance was at the Cotton Club when she was about 10.
She began to pursue a singing career in earnest at age 16. Her father took Shemekia on tour as his opening act,
which helped establish her name on the blues circuit.
Shemekia had lost her voice 4 days prior to this gig. Still performing the 2 previous nights opening for B.B. King.
She was losing her voice during this show and was not at 100%. She still put on a good show.
Recorded 50 feet straight back in the bar area.
