The Blues Brothers was so much more than a movie. It was a showcase for some of the absolute best talent in the blues/funk/R&B world at the time. Not even mentioning the guest appearances in the movie, this band itself is a masterclass. Willie Hall on drums, Matt "Guitar" Murphy and Steve Cropper on guitars, Duck Dunn on bass, Lou Marini on saxophone, Tom Malone on trombone, Alan Rubin on trumpet, and George "Murphy" Dunne on keyboards. Beasts, all of them!

I can't help but wonder what some of the great Swing Band artists of the 1940's would have thought of this arrangement. It's not swing, not quite blues, not quite boogie-woogie, but there's a compelling beat to it that's hard to ignore. The way each instrument is featured throughout the nearly eight-minute-long song rivals even that of Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing." This is a great driving song.

Just listened to Cab Calloway singing Minnie the Moocher at 73 years old. What a hoot. And a beautiful voice. This track is not as compelling but fits the movie well; it has so much to offer. I got interested in the movie again listening to Annie singing "Hold On. I'm Comin " with Steve Perry. I am just a little older than he is and started my marriage in Motown. So glad Steve got out of the rat race before it pulled him under.

I remember seeing this movie in the cinema in the early 80's at age 12 or so with two of my friends. I felt like it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen in my life. Couldn't get it out of my mind for days. Bought the vinyl record not much later.
