I am 41 and about to graduate. I started at 37. I also matched into General Surgery. I think a lot of people think that great grades makes a great doctor. I was not top of my class and as an older adult, yes I found it somewhat harder than some of the younger students but working hard and being a good person goes a long way as well. If this profession is a dream of yours, age should not matter. What does is whether you can’t see yourself doing anything else. I love what I matched into and I love the decision I made.

I’m so relieved to hear this. I want to become a doctor. In fact, I want to become a surgeon, either cardio thoracic or plastic reconstruction. I’m an older student and I was kind of stressing about this.

@@Shemmassian Thank you so much! Right now I am scraping up the money to pay off my community college for a class I took a long time ago. I plan to enroll this fall for online classes. I’d like to do a major in sciences and a minor in humanities.

I am in my late 20's beginning 30's and not too sure if that is old. Anyways, I am working on my science prereqs and will be doing some shadowing and then will be taking the MCAT's. It is a marathon not a sprint.

Found this video to be very insightful as a potential non-traditional applicant, unfortunately there are several other obstacles for myself, such as being a immigrant. The other is that I live in Canada and med schools here are WAY more competitive as there are so few here. One of my biggest challenges here is just getting information about the application process and acceptance criteria.

Omg I feel youuuu, well I’m born in Canada but my parents are from India and when I told them I want to apply for med school, they told me I’m wasting money etc, or I should just do something easy. I know it’s not that serious issue as yours:/ so I’m thinking Of applying once I’m financially doing alright so I needed to know if applying in your 20s is bad Haha but I really wish you luck!! you can do this!!

@@loveleen2435 Thanks for the encouragement. I wish you the best as well, and as much as it's good to listen to our parents at times, we need to remember they are not always right and they are not the ones that will be living with regret for the rest of their lives if you don't at least give it a try.

I am38 years old Medical coding certification trainer from India. I am determined to become doctor. I have enrolled for medical entrance training course. But it's very difficult to do further studies here after a certain age. Everyone finds it unusual and tries to demonization.

@@Shemmassian , Hi, I'm from India. I have my BE(EEE), MS(SS) and BL, practising as top rated medico legal lawyer. I liked to pursue medicine because right from my birth I have inquisitiveness in brain science and I can't attain more knowledge just on interaction and reading. I can do more successful research only on becoming a nephrologist doctor. I heard Indians need to have NEET score which I can't pursue because I didn't have biology in +1, +2 schooling. But I believe for graduates (degree holders) medical schools in UK, USA, Phillipines, Canada etc need not complete NEET to enter medical college. Is it restricted only to citizens of USA, UK, Canada, Phillipines etc or even to people like me from other countries? Please clarify. Thanks a lot.

Can someone who's 41 years old be permitted to take the MCAT with only a GED in their academic background?
@AhlSunnah111 Жыл бұрын
Yes! Go on to take your GED, satisfy all Premed Sci courses, as you'll need them for GPA for medical schools and your non-sci GPA. Study for the MCAT and apply broadly to schools of your choice. GED doesn't determine acceptance, your undergrad work/grades do, MCAT scores do. Work with your academic advisor. 😊

Non traditional I find it offensive to use. Everyone should be considered equal regardless of age. College is for everyone not young adults.
