ecafssot me to. This was the exact moment i asked myself how the original developers have to feel. They did put so much time and love into this game and you really just see that in every corner. at some point they may thought that it will never be played. And what they've put so mich effort in will be lost forever. When they finally released their hard work people have not even been able to play it how it should be played by making a big gameplayfactor completly unplayabele. And now, more then a decade later it is finally possible. But not just that. People are actually recognizing. And it has to be an amazing feeling for them seeing thekr game like this. Esspecially with this great music. That's such a great thing and they do indeed deserve it!. Sorry for my bad english

I've waited more than a decade for this too, when I saw this game was available I was so overcome with joy I collapsed to the floor and wailed rivers of tears, I kept banging my head against the floor and had to be taken to hospital. The doctors had to give me morphine to calm me down.

I absolutely soaked in Shenmue 1 after I bought my first Dreamcast with the first check from my first job when I was a teenager. This series offered up a profound experience during my formative years and changed the way I looked at interactive media. How could you not be totally fascinated with everything Japan after wandering up and down Dobuita street? And the forklift driving mini-game...it is patently obvious that the designer knew a thing or two about tight arcade controls and addictive experiences. I find myself a decade and a half later trying like hell to get my wife interested in the lore and the setting on the PS4 version so that she can have even a glimpse of the impact Shenmue had on me. Looking forward to continuing the story next year, and with a bit of luck and financial success, perhaps years to come.

I actually shed a tear when I finished this collection the other day. It dawned on me that when Shenmue 3 comes out, I'll have waited half my lifetime for that moment. And I think of all that has changed in the world and in my life, and good God it hit me like a tonne of bricks. All that emotion and self-reflection brought upon by a video game. That is why Shenmue means so much to some of us.

@@Gmanawesomeness I thought it was fine. I had a good time with it, but maybe that was because my expectations were curbed. There was no way it could live up to so many years of waiting so I accepted it for what it was, a low budget sequel directed by a dude who wouldn't be able to bring the same energy he would have done once if it had been made twenty years ago. It had some annoyanaces and I would have liked some more progression in the plot, but overall I had fun. Certainly doesn't deserve the faux outrage it recieved, though neither does it deserve blind praise.

Only because they've had a decade to get there, Shenmues were better than the first Yakuza. Really though, Yakuza was just the next generation of Shenmue, borrowed more than just a little bit from it, just as an action beat-em-up rather than a methodical story driven RPG. Had Shenmue not launched on the DOA Dreamcast and actually had the chance to continue, you'd have seen the same sort of evolution over time.

For a long time, the best experience was done by the incomplete DreamCast Emulators that had come and gone, some modifications, or even undubing proccesses But this....Ahh, this is just a gift sent by the gods, for most I am willing to say, were deprived of the experience by so many methods, but the Remasters not only did what most fans had tried by emulation, but also took the original product to its most perfect form ~

I played Shenmue for the first time wayyyyyyyy after it came out. Like 2013. So I had no nostalgia for it. But I was curious. I loved it. I'm glad we're going to have all 3 games plus more in the future. I hope more people discover this amazing series and have the same enjoyment as I and many others had.

Never played these games. I remember seeing them in magazines at the time, but... I was always a PC person, consoles never really were my thing. The announcement of Shenmue 3 made me want to play the originals and as I was preparing to look into the emulation scene this remaster was announced. This is a great year for me, as a PC gamer... Yakuza made it to Steam, Monster Hunter World as well and now a remaster of a cult classic. And summer used to be devoid of good games yet now I'm playing great games, in August no less! Anyway, great video. Thanks.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announcement literally had me leap out of my seat and throw my hands in the air, generally I have very reserved reactions, but I couldn't help it, I had long written it off as dead. It's a pity it couldn't have launched as a PS2 or X-Box game, might have actually found its audience. With only the second coming to X-Box, it only appealed to those who had also owned a Dreamcast, very few want to pick up part 2 of a continuing story when they can't play the first. But both games on the two systems that were dead on arrival, history will never know.

Hi. Of all the 3D open world we've all played, Witcher 3, Fallout 3 & 4, GTA 3 to 5, Yakuza, Mafia, Dreamfall: Chapters (semi open world) for some reason, Shenmue 1 & 2 (liked 1 more), is still the best open world 3D for some strange reason. I'm guessing it's the cinematic feel and the relaxing way it made you feel as you traverse the game. There's something more magical about Shenmue compared to all 3D open world games. Agreed. Shenmue is more focused on world immersion as opposed to large scale environments. A lot of these open worlds are bland and empty feeling. I have a feeling Suzuki is going to make Shenmue 3 really detailed and immersive. Since its a AAA title, it won't be able to compete world size wise with larger developers titles. I'm expecting a masterpiece. This game has been so long overdue, I can't see Suzuki letting us down.

Finally the game deserve it's popularity as it should be. Back in the time i was the only one that played with a dreamcast, all my other friends played with ps2. This game was my favorite game of all time and still is to this day !

The Dreamcast always had a style and air than really couldn't be emulated well by other consoles. It felt sleek and high definition without actually being HD. The Dreamcast always looked amazing to me and still does today. I am actually quite glad that they didnt change much on the rerelease, because I love that Dreamcast style so much. :D

The fighting in Shenmue 2 is from the Dreamcast version. The Xbox version was blurry during fights. The Dreamcast was clear.

The only developer I know of these days who puts stuff into games for the sake of aesthetics is the Russian indie developer group "yeo." They only do 2D pixel games though AFAIK. Their games are on Switch, Xbox One, & PC if anyone wants to look them up.

The fighting and QTE's were definitely ahead of it's time. Unfortunately the only gripe I have with Shenmue 1 is there is no way to skip time. I can only play so many arcade games.

I recently replayed them both on the original Dreamcast. And man... those QTEs were annoying as hell. They even got worse in Shenmue 2 with new and dynamic QTEs and reached the highest point of annoyance with the "catch the leaf" event.... But besides that :A Masterpiece!!!

I kinda doubt that you played any of the Yakuza games. While overall the series might have the same tone and the "same" content, it's still a very enjoyable experience and it has A LOT of content. What reviews have you been reading? All the reviews I find are positive even the ones at steam for Yakuza 0 are very positive and the only negatives are from people that didn't understand the game or they didn't had the patience to play the whole game. And who cares if it's not fully voiced? Can't you read?

That's just what I mean, No I haven't played it (thank god) but I *almost* listened to everyone comparing what is essentially a button masher with very little investment in melding gameplay and narrative to Shenmue which has a completely different design philosophy. Just because someone likes Shenmue does not mean that they will like Yakuza. It's not the reviews I've read, but game play that I've seen for myself, such as not having to use anything but a drop kick or object to destroy rooms full of enemies while Shenmue is based on *Virtua Fighter.* It's not just that Yakuza isn't fully voiced it's that it looks almost expressionless and almost all of the mechanisms that I saw also completely pull you out of the story which itself seemed to be an afterthought, it was just kind of there because it had to be, while Shenmue to me, is seamless. Yakuza's not a bad, but a *completely* different experience, and not one I think most Shenmue fans would enjoy or want to invest in.

Anyway, you can't judge a game by only seeing someone else playing. What you see vs how it actually feels when you play is a completely different experience, and that is true for every game out there. If you are not sure if a game is worth buying then you can always torrent it and try it first.

As a fan of the series, I am very happy for the launched of this game. After 20 years, SEGA decided to revive this masterpiece. However, the multiple bugs and glitches leave much to be desired. I expected more from a company and its final product. I consider a lack of respect to tell people that everything is fixed with patches downloaded. When this game is not even made to play online. I think it's a lack of respect that after so many years they take out a product expected by thousands and it is not up to what the original experience should be.

Believe it or not, playing the original Shenmue 1 and 2 on the Dreamcast over a quality VGA solution into an OSSC or Framemeister, yields results that are, not that far off, from this remaster.

You have to wonder what would have happened if both games had originally been ported and bundled together on the original Xbox. I missed out on Shenmue when I had a Dreamcast and I never picked up Shenmue II for Xbox, I will likely pick this up for PS4 once it's been patched a bit more.
