Shenmue Tree is the tree upon death mountain in Chrono Trigger, that rebirthed chrono before Lavos with the time egg, I know because the sword in shemue 3 floats using the same technology the sages had the kingdom of zeal floating on. The music of shenmue sounds like Chrono Trigger. Wouldnt it be fantastic if Ryo, could have his own time egg?

I remember 2002 i believe, on vacation with my mom and dad in a bigger city than where i lived. Dad took me to a game store, 29.99 my dad bought this game for me but it looked interesting to me. Couldn't play it for another 3 days but i read the back cover constantly. Finally got to play and i had no idea what kind of game i would be but instantly i fell in love and played this game over multiple times in a row. The only other games that i ever did that with was star wars kotor 1 &2

I was a kid when this game out. I remember i was in Walmart with my mother and i was in the electronics/gaming section. I had never heard of this game and didn't even know of its existence but i stumbled upon it in the games section. I literally asked my mother to buy it for me because I thought the main character on the game case looked cool (spiky hair, bandage under one eye, brown leather jacket 😂). I had nothing to go based off of for this game other than what was appealing to me on the game case. I thought Ryo looked cool and went based off that. Little did i know i was about to play one of the absolute greatest games of all time. I fell in love with the game quickly and hard. I was hooked. I loved this game so much. When people say something was "ahead of its time", this game is the epitome of that.

I played Shenmue II when it came out like 20 years ago. Seeing that Shenhua part for example makes me realize how outdated the gameplay is. The style and feel of the game is still great.

Shenmue never had game play it was sim-play you lived a story vicariously through a grieving kid, it should feel heavy and slow thats what it is in real life, and fighting is in real life feels like you struggle to due very little. Shenmue doesn't need to be a good game its a sentimental experience, you wont remember 90% of todays games but Shenmue will reach through the cracks and like a flower of spring you'll remember the times you had with it and I hope you have friends to share this with because the goofy odd ball stuff is magic as you laugh at the armature nature of it of all the voices and the hidden stuff. and when tragedy strikes it lends a odd hand in pulling one forward if nothing else is at hand to mend. at least in my empierce it does.

@@xaagripha7326 A better gameplay (in todays view) wouldnt have damaged the experience imo. Everything else is true of course. BTW: The last game I remember is Ghost of Tsushima. When you get the "bad" ending, Jin releases a scream of grief. I actually reminded me a but Ryu holding his dying dad.

I first came across Shenmue in 2005 by watching the movie compilation of the first game. Didn’t actually play the series until 2018 when I bought Shenmue 1 & 2 for the PS4. Both games are great but I prefer the second game over the first.

feels like a human made it thats for sure, but I love that made it feel like a person telling you a story not opposed to games being like a Hollywood movie that there's nothing recognizable in terms of human touch's like little flaws and quarks. its quant and as a game it of inferiors quality and outdated but as a peace of art and character entity its charming like a dog simple and from the heart.

Same. Most games I played as a kid, I tend to just play it for the action. But when I first played it I found it boring but yet the music and walking Hong Kong (as well as playing space harrier and outrun) kept me playing and eventually I became invested in the story. (Which was help since the game came with dvd recapping the first game since that didn’t get ported to Xbox) which is also why I love open world games.

Played Shenmue 1 & 2 on original Dreamcast, replay Shenmue 2 on OG Xbox, there is something about these 2 games that are so hard to describe but it is a masterpiece. Don't mind shenmue 3.

Like , let's be real, Lan Di got away, but the atmosphere at 7: 13: 30 after beating the so called Master of Kowloon atop the tower made me feel like such a goddamn badass in that scene afterwards. Guilin Village was super jarring by comparison, and killed the hype that was built up for me. I really hope Shenmue 4 is better, if we even get it.

In an ideal world, the Dreamcast would've sold well enough to help lift Sega out of their debts, and Sega would therefore still be manufacturing consoles. If that had happened, we could've been on Shenmue 13, the final entry in the series, by now. We might've heard Paramount Pictures announce a new Shenmue movie. That Shenmue anime that got canned a year ago would've still been ongoing. Watching this gameplay was amazingly nostalgic. But, it also reminds me of how this series' story never got a chance to really shine. I hope we'll finally see how this story ends, even if it's not in a video game, but a novel, manga, or... something.

Sega was so ambitious with the Dreamcast. They had some real unique games and really tried their best. It would have won the console wars at the time if it had a DVD drive (some people bought the PS2 purely because it was the cheapest DVD player at the time).
