Thanks for sharing, I was given a Shepherd scope by a Leopold fan who thought it was a cheap scope that came on a 300 mag he bought at a gun show. His loss my gain and the fact it was on a 300mag you would have thought he would have researched it. I didnt understand all the controls and this was an excellent video! I have just used the crosshairs for several years and have never missed a deer. I did notice these scopes are setup for certain caliber guns so I may not be able to use the bullet drop on my 30-06 if its a 300 mag scope.

Charles The trajectories of the 300 Win Mag and the 30.06 can be different, but can also be the same, depending on the ballistics of the bullets you are using. I used a Shepherd #1 reticle for both my 300 Win Mag and my 30.06. If you would like help figuring out what reticle you need feel free to give me a call. 661-281-5992. I will need the kind and weight of the bullet, it's ballistic coeficient and it's speed. I can also help you get these details. I'm curious as to what scope you have. If it's an old "All Arounder" then you have four choices of reticles. The reticle number is at the bottom of the view as you look through the scope. When you get a Shepherd reticle matched up with a bullet trajectory there is nothing like it.

Yes I got one on a varmint 243 maybe some of the tactical where you dial your crosshairs to the range of each target are more accurate but nothing is faster and I like to see just what the drop is at a given range .
@gwright9
@gwright9 3 жыл бұрын
For a .243 my guess is that you have a #1 reticle. The drop figures for that, and all the Shepherd Scope reticles are on the web site. But the drop figures for the #1 reticle are as follows: 100 yards = 0, 200 yards = -3", 300 = -12", 400 = -27", 500 = -49", 600 = -80", 700 = -119", 800 = -172", 900 = -238", 100 = -321". If you ever want another Shepherd Scope, I give 5% off the retail price.

If the reticle is BDC then it must match the drop of your bullet which varies depending on caliber/ bullet weight, etc. correct? So how would one go about determining the correct BDC reticle to choose?

I am very interested in purchasing a Shepherd scope for my 6.5 Grendel. Dual radical. Which Scope is suggested? Thank you.
@gwright9
@gwright9 4 жыл бұрын
The best reticle for the 6.5Creedmore is the #1. That means you have several options that have a dual reticle, the V1, V1 Tactical and the S1. There are also a number of single reticle scopes with the #1 reticle which are less expensive. It all depends on your price range and the features you want. But I'm like you and prefer the dual reticle models. They are all shown on the Shepherdscopes.com web site. Write or call me if you have further questions. I offer from 5%-15% discounts on any scope on the web site. Thanks, Greg Wright

Wish there was a regular MIL/MOA FFP reticle instead of the BDC, the 2nd focal place reticle looks nice and crisp in the center
@gwright9
@gwright9 4 жыл бұрын
There are Shepherd MIL dot and MOA reticles. One is the BRS 4-16x44 MIL single FFP reticle. Another is the Sniper series Dual Reticle 6-24x50 MIL. The BRS 5-25x56 and 3-18x50 are FFP MOA scopes. There is also the BRS 1-8x28 ML1 tactical FFP scope. These are all on the Shepherdscopes.com Web site. I offer from 5-15% discounts depending on the model.

Mr. Wright in your video you explain that the large turrets move the circles and the small turrets move the crosshairs. My Shepard scope is opposite. During sight in do I still move the circles 1st then the crosshairs? Or do I do it opposite as my turrets are apparently backwards for some reason. Thanks for any help you can offer.
@gregwright5926
@gregwright5926 4 жыл бұрын
I've never seen a Shepherd Scope in which the larger front turrets moved the crosshairs. I've owned Shepherd Scopes for over 30 years and I've seen some older than that, but have never seen what you describe. Motion is relative to other objects, so I am guessing that when you turn the large forward turrets it only appears that the crosshair is moving when actually it is the circles. There are a couple of tests you can make to figure this out. The circles, being in the first focal plane, will move around in the view whereas the crosshair is always in the center of the view like all other second focal plane reticles. The other test is the turrets themselves. The front turrets will click as they are turned whereas the small turrets that turn the crosshairs are a smooth motion with no clicks. If your turrets are indeed reversed then you have a very rare scope. At any rate, the one shot sight in should work either way. You could move the circles to the bullet hole first or move the crosshair to the bullet hole first. I don't think it would make any difference. Please let me know what you find out.

Greg Wright Thank you for the info. I zero’d out the scope when I returned home last night. I will get back out to the range this week and give it another try. It was a free hand sight in so I am assuming I was looking at it backwards as you suggested. Ill respond accordingly once I get it figured out. Thank you sir.

How does it compensate for say a .300 win mag shooting 150 grain bullets for dear and a 200 grain bullet for bear there is a big difference in drop at a 1000 yards?
@gwright9
@gwright9 3 жыл бұрын
You are right that the 150 Gr and 200 Gr will usually have very different trajectories. I used a 180 Gr with my 300 Win Mag and Shepherd scope. That worked very well for everything I wanted to shoot, deer, elk or whatever. (I shot two elk at over 800 yards with it.) Using only one bullet not only kept my trajectory consistent but I didn’t have to sight in again when switching to a different bullet. So my advise is to choose a favorite bullet that will work with any game, then choose the reticle that matches that trajectory. It is possible however, to get 150 and 200 Gr bullets that have very similar trajectories, depending on the speed and ballistic coefficient of the bullets. But Shepherd offers a number of different reticles to accommodate varying trajectories. If I knew what bullets you were using or wanted to use then I could get on the ballistic calculator and tell you if those two are comparable enough to use one reticle. Chances are they would be fairly close out to maybe 400 yards if not further. If they are way off out at longer ranges then it would be a simple matter of adjustment to still make the shot. You would just need to range the target and adjust 1 MOA or so up or down to accommodate the other bullet. It could be done with or without turning the turret. It could be done in less time than you would normally need to make an adjustment with a regular second focal plane bullet drop compensator. The Shepherd scope is easier and faster. There are more options, especially with the dual reticle models. Feel free to give me a call. I am a consultant for Shepherd Scopes and offer a 5% discount on any retail scope. Greg at 661-281-5992.

The V1, or S1 is the right scope for the 6.5, not the V2. The V2 fits a .308 trajectory. All the people I’ve sold scopes for the 6.5 to have wanted the V1 or S1.

What would be the scope I would need for my 22lr? It’s a tactical solution X ring 10/22 with 16.5 barrel length
@gwright9
@gwright9 4 жыл бұрын
There is a Shepherd Scope that is made for the 22lr. It is here: shepherdscopes.com/product/4-16x44-brs-22lr/ . A little over a year ago a national shooting team bought out the entire inventory of the 3-10x40 22lr dual reticle scopes. The company decided not to reproduce the dual reticle 1" tubes for the 22lr scope. So they redesigned it in a 30mm tube scope that is 4-16x44. They have improved the reticle significantly. I can give you a 5% discount on it if you want one. You can call or text me at 661-281-5992.

My Sheppard’s scope was inherited. How can I tell which caliber it is intended for?
@gwright9
@gwright9 4 жыл бұрын
As you look through the scope, near the bottom of the view there will be a number like 1 or 2 etc. That number will give you the trajectory of that scope. Each scope will work for a number of different calibers. I’d be glad to help you match up your scope with a caliber. Let me know the scope number and what caliber you had in mind for it. We can go from there.
