Historic Shepherdstown, the oldest town in the state of West Virginia, nestled in the lower Shenandoah Valley - is only 90 minutes from the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan areas but miles away from the stress and rushed lifestyle of the city. Shepherdstown is located on the banks of the Potomac River in Jefferson County. It was settled heavily by German immigrants, possibly as early as 1717.
