INJURED By A Pig - Farming Is DANGEROUS Work!
Today we are weaning piglets. While we were working to catch them, Saundra was ran over by a pig causing a minor injury. Be careful working around animals! Animals Gone Wild!!

We've been very lucky with our pigs. We have two breeding sows, and if we pick up a baby and it squeals, they come running, snorting and grunting like crazy, but when they see it's us, they calm down. The first pen that we farrowed in, we built a small corral adjacent to it: the "oinklet corral". When we had buyers coming, we'd go out in the pen ahead of time and catch a bunch, then put them in the oinklet corral so the buyers could choose what they wanted and then it would be a quick catch. We recently moved a mom and her litter of 9 to a small corral that - at the time - was lush with greenery. Mom led just fine, but babies decided to go for a nap rather than follow mom! So, we had to wrangle babies. Halfway through, mom showed up: she had filled her belly, then busted the gate down and walked 1km back up to where her babies were! Well, that made things sketchy! I grabbed a piglet, it squealed, mom rushed me... I just held the piglet in front of her face, telling her it was fine, we just have to move all of you! The final piglet was one heck of a challenge - multiple dives, resulting in multiple injuries amongst us! Finally, the tiniest of us, a very petite British lady weighing no more than 100#, got rushed by mom as she went for the last piglet... She rushed 400# mom in return, saying, "I'm not afraid of you, now F@#$ OFF!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 And she caught the last piglet!

The first time we caught seven male piglets in the barn, the mamas ran through the electric fence, pushed against the crate we had them in which was blocking the door, knocking me to the ground. I was afraid I was going to get trampled on. Thankfully, they didn't hurt us but they sure were upset.

I got 3 pigs this year to help me turn some woods into silvopasture and they arnt very big but still a handful, I can only imagine. The work they are just for me with 3 is enough. I try to move their pen every 10 days but it is a chore. today I had to wire the nipples on the drinker because they liked to pull them out and then they have no water.

He walked up behind me and stuck me in the right thigh and lifted me up about 3 or 4 feet. His tooth or tusk or whatever went into my leg and ripped it up pretty good. I have a nice 6 to 7 inch scar on there now.

When I was young I milked about 80 cows daily. One time two mamas tried to get into the barn at the same time and I was in between them. Thankfully there were rafters in the holding pen and the only place for me to go was up. One time I got kicked in the chest by a nervous nelly and it sent me across the pit. So yeah you have to be ever watchful. I hope you weren't too sore the next few days.

Definitely won the buckle for the day. Have you ever tried using a pig panel with d rings? We would encircle the piglets with a panel clip it closed with the d rings then you can walk them right to the trailer as a group Like fishing in a barrel instead of a rodeo

Um. For weaning purposes try leaving the stock trailer outside of eletric wire and leave feed in it for the little pigs. That way the pigs can go in trailer and get use to it, but the hogs stay away from it. Feed the hogs and pigs like normal the pigs will learn the trailer is easier for them to eat in and not compete with the hogs for food. On weaning day feed in trailer then hogs. Then hopfully just shut door. Basicly what you are doing in the video but where the hogs dont have access to the trailer
