I'm from Maryland but I grew up in Texas and Mississippi. I would live with my grandparent in Mississippi every summer. My grandfather raised pasture pigs he had around 200. So I guess I grew up on a pig farm It was my job to feed them twice a day. My grandfather was not rich, we had no tractor, but he taught me how to use mules. I hitched them to a wagon to carry the pig feed and O learned how to plow the corn fields. Field corn was feed to the pigs, and the corn was ground by a hand crank grinder. It was all hard work but I loved every minuet of it.

Thank you for your service sir. My opinion isn't much but if you got a few acres give it a go. Chickens are easy to feed and water. My grandparents raised chickens without fence. It wasn't alot but enough to supply family and friends. Chickens would normally go in the coop every night before dark. My grandfather shut their door every night. Pigs can be raised in a small area. You could get a fence installed and feed n water. Id say give it a try. You never know how you'll do. Good luck 👍

I enjoy viewing all of the homestead and rural small farm videos, just as I do the confinement hog raising videos. I operated a very successful hog operation from 1977 - 1995 marketing between 850-1000 head each year. One year I had a field of wheat that had onions. I had pasture and shelter available so I swelled the onion wheat and fed it with hog supplement. The hogs absolutely loved the swelled wheat and wheat beer byproduct. I fed out about a hundred head from 50 pounds to market weight on it. It was easy to do. Take six 55 gallon barrels, fill it 2/3 full of wheat and fill almost full with water. Feed in large troughs. Always leave a little of the beer in the barrel as a starter. Feed once wheat becomes swollen, soft and fermented. Use a 38% protein supplement to provide a 14-15% protein feed. Works great.

Hi Sonya and Chuck, Bronson, Florida is where we got our first Kunekune piglet circa January 2023. Somehow 3 more showed up shortly thereafter...😂 been 8 months now and I'm still loving and learning everything pig. I'm enjoying watching ALL of your old videos! Thank you for all the info and any advice you may have on our own silviculture attempts to be an organically straight homestead.. Cheers from Florida! Dan 😎
