And you could clearly see just how terrified Buldeo and the other Indian hunters were of him. I'm pretty sure that that was a reference to how the villagers believed him to be a ghost in the original book. And whenever the sound of his very name was brought up, Buldeo would have literal PTSD moments. I think that they were implying that Buldeo had hunted Shere Khan before in the past, but due to a tramatic event, he knew better then to try it again. That's a call back to the song "The Mighty Hunter's" which basically had the tiger and the hunter singing about just how much they hated each other and deeply wished to kill one another. Here's the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmLIhYiYaZ2tnaM Agree?

@ryanleikness34142 жыл бұрын
That is a very interesting question. The things so fascinating about it is you never know and always question it. If you did know the answer, would it satisfy you or be a let down? A theory i have is persception, as is what is real in life. The many differences between Shere Kahn and Buldeo in the media does vary alot, but in the end its about who they are as to why they hate each other. Buldeo is a survivalist and only wants to claim animals and riches to escape the harshness of the jungle, and Shere Kahn is a survivalist who only respects the jungle and will do anything to protect it, even If it alienates himself from the animals, and build up his reputation as a feared animal. But his only downfall is mistrust in kind humans (i.e. Mowgli). Both are hunters and both know they have reputation. That i believe is why they are after each other. They believe they are the best. It's about who Is the better hunter: man or tiger. If one kills the other, then the winner becomes the ultimate hunter, and will have fear over any prey, no matter how dangerous they are Just a thought, maybe
@jasonvazquez70612 жыл бұрын
@@ryanleikness3414 Interesting thoughts. Back to the "The Mighty Hunter's" song, I noticed that during the attack in the 1994 film, Shere Khan singled Buldeo out and ignored everone else, but just went after him alone. And when they ran into each other, Buldeo looked him right in the eye and whispered "Shere Khan" and instead of shooting him, he just ran off. That tells me he surely did recognize the tiger face to face and implied that they had a history together like I said. An another point later on in the film when they were sleeping at night, they heard the tiger roar in the distance and Buldeo immedietly recognized the sound of his roar. When Boone said he hoped to bag the tiger for his skin, the old hunter dissuaded him from doing so saying "He's the devil himself". Again, he clearly had a violent and bloodly past with khan. And I remember reading in an old disney children's book that said Shere Khan hated humans because a hunter once shot him in the leg crippling him, I think I might have an idea as to who that hunter was. Honestly, one thing I wondered was "How in the F#*% did Buldeo know Shere Khan's name"? Got any idea why? @astrangerhere2 жыл бұрын
I love how Khan was portrayed in the 1967 film with a British accent -- he's suave, elgant, and charming, and at the same time condescendng, over-confident with a dry sense of humor. Underneath all of this, which could snap out at a moment's notice, he was a fierce, powerful, dangerous predator. The fact that he doesn't show up until 2/3rds of the way through the film makes him seem like, in a way, a larger-than-life force of nature. Despite all of this, I do carry some sympathy for the character -- he isn't really in the wrong to believe that man poses a danger to both the jungle and it's inhabitants. Man DOES hunt animals, often for sport rather than necessary food as the other carnivores do. Due to the use of guns, man almost always wins in these conquests. "The Red Flower," as fire is called, while necessary for man, does have the power to destroy large sections of the jungle if left unchecked or by accident (as does happen in the live-action remake.) So I don't really consider Khan to be "wrong" about these things and that they should be forbidden from the jungle. How to prevent them from entering the jungle without killing any man who steps thereinto isn't something I have an answer to. Khan isn't wrong in his belief that humans have a very strong propensity to harm or destroy (whether intentionally or in ignorance) the natural world.

In terms of my favorite interpretation... I liked the live action "Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book" the best, as that version of Shere Khan generally remained consistent with a stance on protecting the jungle. It wouldn't remove conflict with man, but wouldn't make him the bullying villain that he is in most other iterations. In this, he played more of an anti-hero role and thus could still be a potential threat to Mowgli but smart enough to recognize that Mowgli wasn't like other men. Most other iterations pretty much have Shere Khan as a complete villain with no ability to understand anything outside his own biases. In some it's understandable in that Shere Khan sees humanity as a threat... which in a sense is true. The Indian Jungle today is vanishing, because the country's population is ever expanding and they need some place to live . Thus the parks of Project Tiger MUST be dismantled and removed to give humanity the space to live (and in reality... they likely will be dismantled in time). But in the original animated movie and the most recent live action remake, it is as though Shere Khan cannot tell the difference between a non-threat and an actual threat. And in the Jungle Book 2... they took Khan out of his character in that he marched right into the man village showing no sign of fear of the campfires that were still lit and that his motivation was not so much protecting the jungle as it was getting even for the previous fight.

Strange; adding in Jungle Cubs as well as the '94 live-action film, adds a whole new level of depth to Shere Khan's character, and almost sheds a tragic light on the Disney version we see... The idea that in Jungle Cubs, Khan, Bagera, Baloo, Kaa and Hathi were all friends in their youth. But upon maturing they eventually went their separate ways; hell, Shere Khan's reason for splitting off from them could have been the wise idea, as a group of predators such as them in such proximity to each other, would attract big-game hunters, leaving them all as easy targets. But what's tragic is, years later, now all fully matured, their friendship is further splintered and divided...all because of a Man-Cub. Each one of them takes a different perspective on the Boy in how they deal with them. Bagera and Baloo are fond of Mowgli and look after him like surrogate father-figures. Hathi is largely apprehensive of Mowgli but eventually warms up to him due to his son's friendship with him. Kaa wants to eat Mowgli; virtually seeing him as nothing more than easy prey. And Khan hates Mowgli with a passion, seeing in him the untapped potential to make him one of the world's greatest predators. But what I think is really missing from the Disney Narrative, is that while - to most animals - Khan is in the right to fear the potential of man - he only ever presents himself as being a blood-thirsty, vengeance-seeking, man-killer; going after his own selfish desires without putting anyone's well-being above them. In the '94 film, with Khan depicted as the Protector of the Jungle, that adds a new layer of depth to him; he sees Mowgli as a threat, but his fears are justified and his actions work toward the benefit of the jungle...and he can be reasoned with. Let's imagine how the Disney-Incarnation could be tweaked to include that. Let's say that when Khan left the cub-pack to explore his potential as a predator, he thought he truly could become the guardian of the Jungle by protecting its inhabitants from Man. Unfortunately, there was always something BIG challenging his position of guardian; the Elephants. As seen in the 2016 Disney version, the animals believe the Elephants are the creators and guardians of the jungle. So regardless of his superiority as a predator, Khan would never be a match for the huge beasts. Perhaps this led to him harboring a deep-seated jealousy and animosity toward his fellow-animals who wouldn't accept him as their protector or the protector of their way of life... Food for thought I guess.

It makes a lot of sense for this story to take place in India, not just for the story, but the myth that possibly goes behind it. Shere Khan's drive to kill humans whenever he gets the chance may also be influenced by a higher power, more specifically a deity. I believe somewhere in Hindu mythology, one of the main gods (the name eludes me), created the tiger to punish mankind's fearlessness.

In the live action movie (shown above as the one where Shere Kahn accepts Mowgli, not the new one) King Louie got his name when Mowgli learned about the french king who had a portrait in the ruins he met the orangutan in. While the movie does play with the fact that Britain held dominance over India at the time, it's easy to forget that France also held several territories in India as well. A friend and I debated then if Louie was a gift to the people who once lived in the now ruins (as Ka mentions he was a pet in one movie version I forget), or if given the ludicrous amount of treasure Louie has, if the ruins were being used by smugglers before The Law of the Jungle got rid of them. Either way, it seems Louie's obsession with humans and living in the ruins is likely because he didn't grow up in the jungle, but in human company. So he feels more at home, and wishes to be more human and might just miss civilization being so far in the wilderness now. o.O

Shere Kahn has every right to want the man-cub Mowgli gone from the jungle as a Tiger and an endangered species because of man. He is pretty much fearing for his own life (most likely internally) because if Mowgli was to become fully grown and be capable of the things that man has done to his own kind he might do upon him. In relation to the story, Shere Kahn is portrayed as the villain because we are meant to sympathize with one of our own, what with being hunted down and hoping he makes it out okay, not that of a powerful predator that is looking out for its own survival, which for any animal in the jungle is... kill or be killed.

There doesn't appear to be a logical progression from the snotty cub in JC who is a closet friend to the other characters, to the ruthless child killer of the original film. Feeling betrayed, and feeling that the very friends he thought he could trust turn their backs on him, he felt like he had to take matters into his own hands.

The book version of Shere Khan is a good deal more ignominious: he was lame from birth and his real name was “Lungri.” Since he was lame, he couldn’t hunt and kill normal tiger prey and instead hunted humans in direct opposition to the Law of the Jungle. Mowgli eventually killed him by trapping him in a gorge and sending a herd of maddened buffalo down to trample him.

Shere Khan is undoubtedly one of my favorite Disney villains and if I had to choose a favorite version of him it would be the live action one of him being voiced by Idris Elba. There's no doubt in my mind that in some versions of The Jungle Book Shere Khan is a great protector of the jungle and I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for tigers in general, heck it's my stepmom's favorite animal. I think maybe Shere Khan's greatest downfall would be that he didn't try to let go of his hatred of Mowgli and humans because if he did then at least in the live action version he could've lived, we all know that if we don't let it go than our hatred will eventually destroy us since both anger and hate are self-destructive. As glad as I am that Shere Khan lived in the end of the original classic film, the sequel, and the original version based off of Rudyard Kipling's book I would still fear him quite a bit while still showing the utmost respect to his power, strength and authority. Another amazing video! I love it! But what about another version of The Jungle Book that I've seen on Netflix? In that pretty much live action version Shere Khan is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, what do you have to say about that version of Shere Khan??? Please let me know.

One thing I liked in the live action version over the animated one is, they showed his physical scarring on his face. Almost half of it is mangled looking.

Something not noted in this is Shere Khan's own hypocrisy. In the 2016 film he stated that he protected the jungle from humans but was all too happy to hunt for sport, kill an innocent child and murder someone for simple defiance, making him not too different from some humans in that regard. His hypocrisy is added onto when he berates the Seonee wolf pack for breaking the law of the jungle by housing a human when he himself broke the law when he wished. His even loses all sympathy for his hatred of fire when it is revealed that the only reason he was burnt was because he attacked a father trying to defend his son, the latter we all know to be Mowgli. To call any portrayal of Shere Khan a protector would be a stretch except for the portrayal in the 1994 film.

I read the book and here is how it goes The 1st king (an elephant) was too busy making the jungle that he gave he's power to the 1st of the tigers or the new king,later in the story there was a fight between two animals and the tiger killed one fleeing because of he's guilt he ran away the trees marking him with stripes so all the tigers remember they are the reason for bringing death to the world So that explains why shere Kahn is tiger king as for his fear of humans The tiger king was going to prove(some point in the story) that he was no coward and went to the one thing all animals fear,the human he ran terrified So shere Kahn's fear is a passed down Gene 🐲🔥🐲🔥🐲

They are not "misunderstood", they just believe that what they're doing is right and beneficial to everyone. But they're prepared to sacrifice others to affirm their beliefs.

When I was younger I read the original book by Rudyard Kipling, in which Mowgli after living at the village for a while and working a farm worker discovers that shir khan has attempted to take over the wolve pack. He goes out to save his family in the jungle and kills shir khan by letting him get stomped bz his cows. Later on he skins shir khan and brings the fur to the pack, which accepts him from then on as a proper part of the jungle

Great video. Shere Khan is one of my favourite Disney villains for how charming and ruthless he can be. My favourite would be the original animated version or the 2016 live action version (that one is my favourite in general). While this isn't Disney related, but one idea for a video is could Dudley's kids or grandkids one day become witches or wizards? Dudley's Great Aunt was a wizard, so the gene could potentially stay recessive in the family and pop up randomly later on. It happened with many Muggleborns. If this is the case, what could they be like personality wise and how would they react to the Wizarding World?
@IsaacCarlson8 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked the video. I agree with your choices for Shere Khan and as for Dudley's kids: I think it is possible a future descendant of Dudley could pass on a magical gene. I don't know for sure, but if his mother had some trace of the genes for magic then at some point Dudley's lineage could have a squib. Thanks for watching!

I think he fears humans because they probably killed his family, so it makes sense why he wants to kill Mowgli. He's not evil at all. I never liked the movie that much. But i can say Shere Khan is not that bad at all.

@darthplagueis136 жыл бұрын
I dunno... I would have somewhat preferred it if you actually included the Shere Khan of the original jungle book rather than just the movie sources. Actually, the most recent one is probably still the truest to the source book when it comes to the tigre. If I recall properly he was cripled in an incident involving a human, either by a shot wound or fire. He carries a disctinct limp that actually makes him a rather poor hunter and and he is mostly carried by hatred. The other animals do not like him at all, referring to him as a "sick bastard" even though they have come to respect his ferocity and savagery. Eventually Mowgly encounters him at the village and manages to lure himinto a trap, resulting in Shere Khans death through getting run over by a cattle stampede.

I knew someone like Cruella. She was incredibly spoiled and only liked people who treated her as such. She *always* had to have her own way and anyone who told her she couldn't was someone she disliked. She loved my older sister because she had no backbone, but hated me because I'd always tell her she couldn't get what she wanted all the time

Shere Khan was may favorite part of the Jungle Book. It's not my favorite movie, but Khan is to awesome. I thought he look gorgeous in the "live" action movie.
@11thShadowDragon8 жыл бұрын
Erm. Bagheera wasn't really ambushed so much as Sher Khan was. Since Sher Khan was stalking Mowgli and Bagheera took the tiger down hardstyle. That's about the only thing I disagree with. I like the Disney classic's version best, but the latest live action move Sher Khan is great too. He really reads to me like a serial killer from Criminal Minds. Narcissistic, power hungry, extremely controlling - anybody who's seen the show would probably reach the same conclusion. (I do not recommend the show for anyone under 15, and only if you have a stomach of titanium.)
@KhanSaab-pi6sw8 жыл бұрын
In the Jungle Book, Bagheera states that Shere Khan hates man with a ''vengeance''. I believe at one point, Shere Khan had a very tragic encounter with humans

why are there no other male lions in the lion king
@blakebreninger4898 жыл бұрын
there are they're just irrelevant because of Mufasa, Scar, and Simba being the dominate males. In real prides there's always more males but since there's always a dominate male the others don't matter unless they fight to become the dominate leader.
@LanaMarina24928 жыл бұрын
Actually in a real pride, a pride will consist of 1-3 males.
