Excellent video. I have a couple of the Sheridan gauges (.338 LM and 6.5 CM) but I got them just before I took nearly 2 years off from reloading. I never really understood why they worked better till I saw this. After trying what you describe here and trying them out on some commercial and handload ammo, I just ordered two more (.223 and .308) that should be here Saturday. I wish I'd seen this when you originally posted it. Thanks.

I think it's one of the best on the market! I also bought .308 Win, 9mm, & 45ACP. Machining on all of them was impeccable! Thanks for watching and commenting!

I built a 5.7x28 AR and had heard about how finicky they are to reload. I purchased a set of Hornady dies and had heard about the fact that the cases have a lacquer coating on them. They cycled so-so, but I would get a round once in a while that wouldn't cycle. I was told that the Sheridan Gauge was the way to go to get the cases just the right dimension, so I ordered one. The cases that I had re-sized didn't come close to fitting flush in the gauge. I measured case after case and discovered that the Hornady resizing die wasn't getting all the way to the base of the case. I put the die in my lathe and took off .001" on the face, chamfered the inner edge, and polished the face. When I reinstalled the die in my press and resized the same brass again...it fits perfectly just barely below the top headspace dimension. I was also having issues with my .308 brass, so I ordered one of the Sheridans for that as well. Guess what? The re-sized brass did not fit either. Fortunately I had ordered the RCBS small base reasizing die and all I had to do was adjust it down a bit and the brass slipped right in where it is suppose to be. I re-load 8 different calibers, for various AR platform weapons that I shoot and I guarantee you, as I can affor them I will own a Sheridan Case Gauge for EVERY CALIBER! I am a huge fan!!

Reloading 5.7x28? Your'e a trailblazer! Lol! I've had very good luck with the Sheridan's and believe they keep extremely tight tolerances. Definitely one of the best in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

I've been reloading .223 for a few months. After watching your video I ordered and received my .223 sheradin gauge. Slotted looks awesome and glad I did. Doing my own reloads and I noticed a problem with all of them. The base of all the cases protruded a bit and hung up in the Sheradin gauge. Passed the JP Enterprise case gauge. I checked a bunch of reloads and they all protruded. I seated the bullets 2.26 which is COAL according to the reloading manual. I measured factory ammo and the COAL is between 2.18 and 2.20. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. The bullet itself was sticking in the gauge. I reseated my reloads to 2.20 and they all passed the gauge and slid right out. No sticking. Prior to purchasing the Sheradin gauge also explains why occasionally I have issues manually ejecting some live rounds, feeding issuss and some stuck cases. Thank You for the video and your helpful instructions. I was able to resolve a reloading issue. Now back to the range.

Use the pistol/barrel to check. The ar rifle chamber maybe a bit harder. On multiple reloaded rifle 308 brass, i found this to be an issue. So I check now. Ty for the video. Sheridan is better @ $70 roughly a piece

If you neck size this gauge turns into a paper weight.
@peteregger79283 жыл бұрын
The precision reloading community for the most part has moved away from neck sizing only. PRC and "F" class pretty much full length size exclusively these days. I only full length resize and to SAAMI specs so that my reloads will shoot in any of my multiple AR or bolt action platforms. But if you neck size only I can see what you're saying. Here's an interesting video by a professional shooter. Erik Cortina kzbin.info/www/bejne/on2qY56Jp6lnZsk He also does an interview where he asks about 30 other competitors if they neck size or full length. Everyone one of them said they no longer just neck size. Do they use a chamber gauge though? Probably not?
