Sheriff reacts to Pensacola Beach Circle K clerk firing shots at group; No charges filed

A Circle K convenience store clerk who grabbed a gun and chased some people out of his store told investigators he felt threatened. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office told WEAR News on Tuesday that he will not be facing any charges.

I think this issue it's a touchy situation. Me personally if I where the circle k worker and how ever got started. I would have just called the cops explaining the situation and wait for them to come. Now! As I'm working tho, I notice one of the guys pulled out a weapon of some sort and depending on what it was and I knew my life or a customer life was going to be in danger. Then I would have pulled my pistol and went to work on the one who had a weapon and they would have been taking the ' Asphalt challenge '. But to run out the store on these guys. Not the smart thing to do. He could have gotta charges brought on him. It's just words until a weapon gets pulled out. Keep cool and STAY ALERT.

Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weightlifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation…and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Hes fired. Circle K doesn't allow any weapons. My friend quit after working there for a few years after some jerk put a gun in his face over some cigarettes and beer. Didn't rob the register. Then he threatened to come back and finish. He worked past his notice but he's changed as far as socializing any more. Your life flash before your eyes and no way to fight back. I had the same happen to me while receptionist at a hotel. He had a gun to my ribs and not my face though. $70. He wasn't as threatening as far as i didn't react quietly and honestly I think if he had any intention of shooting me he would have. I freaked out. There were other issues with my robbery but this aint reddit i guess. 😊

The clerk just got lucky, he's lucky to go home to his family. There were other people outside when he was shooting and no one else had a gun. Major liability. when they left the store that was the end of protecting his self. Once he left the inside of the store and started firing the gun he became the attacker. Most of my Teenage years were spent riding around PB on a beat up bike smoking Pot and hanging in the arcade on the boardwalk . Nope. Circle K has a zero tolerance policy against defending yourself in any way. That's not a joke or exaggeration. As a former employee who was robbed at gunpoint once, I can honestly say that the parent company of Circle K cares more about what they perceive to be "proper procedure" than whether or not you live or die because of someone else's choice of actions. I asked if I had felt the robbers were actually going to shoot me and I chose to defend myself physically to try to stay alive, would I still have my job. I was told, "absolutely not." And that I would be terminated immediately for violation of robbery procedure, which is to do exactly what the robber says, no matter what. As for a non-robbery based violent threat, their policy still states that you can't defend yourself. Basically, if you are going to die by not defending yourself or lose your job by staying alive, you have the choice to make of which is more important to you. Obviously, if you die following the policy to "keep your job," you lose your life and your job together. I told them if I felt the need to defend my life, I dared them to fire me for not letting myself be murdered.
