Right, but then honorably discharged veterans with no DUIs or any type of criminal record, like myself, get passed over for CO positions because we make clear we would not take part in anything questionable, either by abusing inmates or by smuggling contraband. That literally happened to me. I served in the Marine Corps infantry. Not a single DUI. No criminal record. I got passed over for a Correctional Officer position. I made my position on doing the right thing very clear. They want people without moral clarity who are corrupt and will follow any orders, no matter how unjust, because if they don't follow those orders they can be let go and lose their jobs because they are so dirty. They hire compromised people.

Although the threat may have been low, it was still the use of illegal deadly force against them, and it would have been terrifying to have boiling water thrown at you. So, all the elements of self-defense were present when she was shot.
