Hey Cruisers, In this episode we are going to look at a bit of a niche tech product. We've never had super fast Internet speeds on our cruisers, and we've always wondered if there was something we could do to change that. Mr. CTTV has considered mobile hotspots in the past, but understanding the reliance on cellular antennas has always stopped him from purchasing one. We'll take a look at what changed his mind, and how our experience with the GlocalMe mobile hotspot (MiFi) turned out on our recent cruise to Europe.

Normally the way I use my GlocalMe is to buy the smallest data pack for the area I am traveling to. When I arrive and turn on the unit it activates the data pack. I then go to the local phone store and get an unlimited data SIM card . In Brazil I get Claro for less then $20 US and get unlimited data and fast speeds for a month although I usually only stay a week. In Thailand I get the AIS SIM card which is about the same price. Works great. Not only do I have internet access I can make free wi fi calls home

Both Verizon and AT&T offer a "travel pass" for using your cellphone in most countries outside of the U.S. The cost of the pass is $10.00 a day and it is only activated for a 24-hour period once you make a call or send a text. If you don't do either of these things, you are not charged. And when you do use travel pass, your normal calling plan is available to you. So, if you have unlimited talk and text at home, you have the same with the travel pass. You can call anywhere in the world and talk and text as much as you want! If you have an Apple Watch (Sherry), your watch will also function like you were at home.

Allen Myers I just returned from Scandinavia and used Verizon’s Travel Pass. Once you use .05 of data they want to charge you an additional $10 otherwise they slow down your service immensely. I heard that Sprint is doing that also.

Allen Myers Right, but here’s the catch. I have a family of four that wants to stay connected, so that’s $40 per day. I bought a similar device to Sherry’s (Skyroam Solis) and it will connect 5 devices at the same time. For us, it made much more sense and the costs were about 1/3 compared to the $40 per day.

I love getting away from the internet. We just get to Port and find a local café suggested by crew on the boat and use their internet.

Hello guys i recently found you guys and love your channel. I have a question , were going on our first family cruise next year. How will i know how many sd cards to take the many photos and videos for a 6 day cuise. Its going to truly be a big deal. I have a go pro hero 7 but i got a couple of off brand active cameras for my three children, i also have a canon g7x . We don't want to miss anything what would you guys recommend???
