One of the best parts of this I think, and why this version stands out as far superior to every other time Holmes and Moriarty's confrontation has been adapted, is how it treats the event as Sherlock's actual death. Every other time, we're shown a few minutes later that he's alive and well, but in this version, it's as the original presented the events; Watson too late to see the events unfold, and makes the natural assumption that we, as the audience, would also make, if we were unaware of his famous revival

‘Goodbye, and good luck’….. What a very Victorian way of saying goodbye to a dear friend, such as poor old Watson.

With sherlocks experienced physical prowess, it's hard to believe that Moriarty would be even close to a formidable for, as far as fisticuffs, but Moriarty's sneaky, maybe he pulled a weapon. I wish Doyle could see what his character has done for literature and radio, plays, series like this one, Sherlock must be the most portrayed characters in all history, aside maybe from dracula.

Moriarty has been shown as a boxing champion in his younger days, so he was a tough competition to Holmes.

@@sharad2935But that was just in the Robert Downey's movie, true?

@@patriciosantiagohernandezv7868 Yeah, right. I'm not very sure about his description in the novel.

@@sharad2935 Well, Doyle's described him as a very thin and tall man, so i think that the fight conclussion presentend in "The empty house" its more belivable.

Moriarty was as tough as nails, and determined. Had it not been for a knowledge of Baritsu, Holmes would have been a gonna!

Funny how it actually turns out that Holmes picked Moriarty up and just chucked him off the waterfall

This particular rendition of The Final Problem lacks the potent urgency which features so crucially in the short story. But a brilliant duo Brett and Burke undoubtedly made!

I agree, it's more like an elegy than crime thriller. I'll guess it was deliberate decision to make it like that.

@@ivandovranic5834 yes that why its not me but in the boxset there is only this episode on 1 disc nothing else. Conan doyle had enough of him and killed him off. but like watching a doctor who story you know the doctor is dying and he must regenerate as Burke does into Hardwicke

Nice job by the BBC, but the "bodies" clearly ended up on the bank.

Anyone know where the waterfall at 3mins20 is? I've been to reichenbach twice and trummelbach falls and I'm pretty sure it's neither of those.

Why did Watson carry on back to the hotel after he saw Moriarty on his way up the mountain after Holmes?!
@marvcatz3 жыл бұрын
Watson didn’t know who Moriarty was , he kept his physical identity hidden from authorities. Only Sherlock knew his face

Then it turns out that Holmes simply kicks Moriarty in the balls and does some "Japanese" throw to send him plummeting over the edge. To his doom. With sore balls.

On the other hand, they actually showed real human bodies tumbling down there. Not just puppets, as in the last part of the fall.

Why didn't Watson hike down to the bottom and look for Holmes' body?
@mariaborboleta75373 жыл бұрын
If you had haver been to Reichenbachfall,you would know the answer 🤣
@LaPtiteAnglaise2 жыл бұрын
? Because it’s 1) patently obvious he and the authorities would have done so 2) a 3 hour hike makes poor drama 3) that volume of water from that height smashes things to pieces on rocks and keeps things forced under water in its enormous plunge pool for a long time
