Sherlock Holmes-The Solitary Cyclist Part 2

Holmes was a bit hard on Watson in this episode. Watson was a doctor by trade and just enjoyed being a part of Holmes investigations and mysteries. He didn't have any police or detective training. He did as good of a job as anyone would have done.

I admire Holmes, but could never identify with him. Watson on the other hand, was very relatable and a transparent stand-in for the viewers. When he acted, it was always as we, the readers/viewers would for the most part have done, if placed in similar circumstances. At least, we would like to think we would. So when Watson performed his mission, to the best of his ability, I sincerely felt I would have done the same. So when Holmes chided him for a poor job, I felt the sting of Holmes’ criticism as well. Brilliant!

In the original version of the story, Holmes did all the investigating and got everything right. The editor of the Strand complained that the story was too short, and forced Doyle to rewrite it. Hence Watson being sent in in this section and getting everything wrong. That is the only reason why this part of the story exists :-D

This is a great take on the Holmes history, I find it incredible how popular Holmes character has never, I'm sure Doyle would love to see what his character has become
